New Delhi, March 10: Under-fire Indian Hockey Federation Chief K P S Gill on Monday brushed aside demands for his resignation in the wake of India's failure to qualify for the Olympics but admitted that it was a setback for the game.

"I will respond to these things at a later stage. We do not have an instant coffee machine that you can get results instantly. It takes time to regain your position. We have put the process in place and the results will take some time", he said in reaction to demands for his stepping down.

Gill said he would wait for the team to return before deciding the future course of action.

The IHF chief said he would have discussions with the chief coach Joaquim Carvalho and the other support staff to find out the exact reasons for the debacle before making any statements.

"It is not proper to respond at this stage. We will wait for the team to return first, then we will have a clear idea what went wrong", he said.

Asked whether the IHF had accepted chief coach Carvalho's resignation, he quipped "I cannot respond to media reports".

Indian hockey plunged to a new low after the men's team failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time ever following the 0-2 defeat against Britain in the final of he qualifying tournament in Santiago, Chile.
