The IMA Central Working Committee and National Faculty of PC-PNDT Act member, Dr D S Jaspal said, “The association is committed to work on the sensitive issue proactively to reverse the declining sex ratio and ensuring a gender balance in the society.”
He further added that a dialogue process has already been started with medical fraternity to bring about social and moral pressure to address the problem of prenatal sex determination and selective pre-elimination of girl child.
Dr Jaspal said that regional and district-level workshops would be held all over the country in order to streamline the campaign. He said the IMA has also constituted a monitoring cell to curb the female foeticide.
Besides this, the IMA has also decided to sensitise doctors in the country. According to another decision, the IMA will create awareness regarding the PNDT Act vis-à-vis declining female child ratio through a medical professionals’ forum.
