Kolkata, March 7 According to the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), the export of engineering goods from West Bengal and the eastern region to Russia is expected to grow three times by 2010.

EEPC chairman Rakesh Shah today announced that a mega exhibition of engineering goods, INDEE, will be held in St Petersburg between March 11 to 14. At present the volume of export to Russia is only $123.54 million which is to peak to $ 4 billion US by 2010.

Speaking to The Indian Express, EEPC additional executive director and secretary Bikash Sarkar said that the eastern region accounts for 15 per cent of the country’s total exports.

Traditionally, West Bengal’s exports to Russia comprise mica and mica-related products, said Sarkar. Most of the companies exporting to Russia are involved in mining activities in Jharkhand and have headquarters in West Bengal. Talking about the possibility of trade with the state, EPCC representatives feel that there is immense possibility of growth in casting and forging of automobile components.

INDEE -St Petersburg 2008 is the 18th in a series of exhibitions organised by the EEPC to boost exports.
