IPL auction: SRK bats for snubbed Pak cricketers

Mumbai Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has expressed disappointment over the apparent snub to Pakistani players by Indian Premier League bidders.

“I truly believe Pakistan players should have been chosen," The Dawn quoted the Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner, as saying.

Although there were “some issues”, the matter could have been handled by the IPL “respectfully”, Khan said.

“They are the champions, they are wonderful but somewhere down the line there is an issue and we can't deny it,” Khan said in an interview with a news channel.

No Pakistani player was bought by the eight Indian clubs during an auction on Tuesday for the third edition of the glitzy IPL.

Khan said it was humiliating to him as a KKR owner that no one bid for the Pakistani players despite them being put up for auction.

"We are known to invite everyone. We should have. If there were any issues, they should have been put on board earlier. Everything can happen respectfully. Everyday we blame Pakistan, everyday Pakistan blames us. It is an issue,” he added.

Khan, who had five players from Pakistan playing for KKR in IPL's first edition, said the youth should avoid all that is said about India and Pakistan by the politicians.

“Pakistan is a great neighbour to have. We are great neighbours, They are good neighbours. Let us love each other. Let me be honest. My family is from Pakistan, my father was born there and his family is from there," he added.

SRK by Puja on 27 Jan 2010

i think after 26/11 v shudnt give them any damn oppurtunity to earn from our national source ... n anyways KKR was performing terrible in the last 2 seasons so SRK doesnt need to worry if any of the pakis r not playing or playing for his team ....

Why should they play in IPL? by Nitin on 26 Jan 2010

I think its very easy to say that we should not mix politics and sports, but if your existence is being challanged by pakistan then how can we invite their players,Pay them handsomely and see that money (our own) flow to terrorist organisations to be used against us.It is also easy and fashionalble just to blame the politicians, what else can be done when each of our efforts towards peace are thwarted by terrorist attacks. We should honour our commitments in international sporting events but should not invite pakistani cricketers for ipl etc.The Pakistani players will support their country(and rightly so) then can't we support our country in such cases??

IPL is because of cricket and for cricket by Neeraj Pandey on 26 Jan 2010

I think pakistani cricketers shud not be penalised for the shenanigan's of some people operating from pakistan. They have come to our land with sporting vigour and shoud be respected for their devotion to cricket.IPL is about cricket, though it has more of a commercial tag with the kind of green papers it has been generating, but at the end of the day IPL is because of cricket and for cricket. So why are we diluting the sporting spirit with hatred and prejudices. No body is the winner or loser here, its the sports(cricket) that should win at the end of the day.Lets not waste our time and temprament on these baises and bring discomposure to our nation.

Thats not fair by Anil on 26 Jan 2010

I think Shahrukh is right... we shouldnt mix sports and politics.. pakistan has done really well in T20 and they should be given chance like all other countries are given... I personally think it is unfair and it will damage our image in the world.. Why we always do stupid things?? U are right SRK!

26/11 by NEEL on 27 Jan 2010

Wow, what hatred from Indians by Rashid on 26 Jan 2010

In Pakistan, the army and politician are obvious haters of India but most Pak public want peace. Regarding 26/11, the people planning it were from USA and double agents and Pakistan govt not was involved, maybe lashkar group under CIA as jews were targeted which does not make sense. Why jews were targeted by Lashkar, does not make sense. Anyway enough with this hate and act like a big neighbor. SRK, Amitabh, Sunil Dutt, Kapoors, Khannas,Dilip, Gulzar are all from Pakistan, so live with it and show some fairness and goodness. rgds your friendly neighbor Pyar aur ghusa chalta rehtaa hei

Playing the muslim card!! by dd on 26 Jan 2010

Do not act like Bastards and Defame your National Hero- SRK by Qasim Khan on 26 Jan 2010

I'm greatly surprised to see the comments corner. A few non-sense Indian so-called patriots acted in such a shameful, illicit manner by humiliating their own National Hero for his remarkable, honest and worthy comments about snubbing of the Pakistani Champs from IPL. I'm not the one who would scold them publically as they scolded their Hero but one thing is for sure such ill mannered posters are as ugly as a pig. They are barking up the wrong tree, SRK has said nothing other than the reality and EVERY Sensible INDIAN must accept it with great heart. Regards

HYPOCRITE by abhijt on 27 Jan 2010

He may be a national hero fr u not fr us.WAT REACTION WOULD HAV COME IF HE HAD SAID THE SAME THING FR INDIAN PLAYERS BEING A NON-MUSLIM.PLZZZZZZZZ IT HURTS WEN SOMEONE BACKSTABS U

Mind your Language by Mahanty on 26 Jan 2010

Firstly, civilized persons use civilized language and your very language says it all about you. Secondly India is secular democratic Country. Here, if you act against the interest of the Nation, a hero becomes a Zero. It is an open secret that Pakistan has been behind the India-specific terror outfits operating from Pakistani soil and POK, who have been hatching conspiracies against World's largesr democracy to destabilize peace, harmony and economic growth. To prove the point, Pakistan did very little to arrest and prosecute the "Masterminds" of 26/11 Mumbai terror strike. Pak players, though popular in India, did not raise any voice of protest. Imran, even went a step further by throwing his weight behind the ill famous Jamat al-Dawa and its leaders. Thus IPL teams have rightly excluded the Pak players.

What a Definition and Analysis? by Qasim Khan on 28 Jan 2010

Thank you for letting me know what do you call a civilized person. Your definition tells me all about you. I never said anything that could have heart anybody except those who used such a sluggish language on a comment corner against a person who has given a lot to the nation. Mr. Mahanty if you want to still live your remaining days of life by playing the blame game, saying Pakistan is involved in so and so. What do you think? India has been a paradise for the global world and its people? Are you unaware what is said about its involvement in Jammu & Kashmir, Afghanistan, Quetta and other parts of Pakistan? Come on dear! Don%u2019t waste your life by spreading hatred instead of love, enmity instead of peace, poverty instead of prosperity. The choice is yours! Think about your next generations!. Remember! This world is not EVER LASTING%u2026.. Regards,

Ridiculous by Indi on 25 Jan 2010

So what does srk think about the mumbai attacks from his good neighbours. He did not denounce the attack then and now he is supporting the cricketers from the terrorists country and calls them good neighbours. Ridiculous. If he is so fond of pakistani cricketers, let him keep them at his house and feed them.

Master Hypocrite-was, is and will be a pakistani by factastic on 26 Jan 2010

He was busy in Malaysia receiving "Datuk" ship and speaking ill and disowning the rest of Bollywood and india during interviews there. It was ,is and will be a perfect statement to say that he is from Pakistan

So called Snub of Pakistan players by Ajay Prabhakar on 25 Jan 2010

I do not think any body is bigger than a customer in today's world. Customer is utmost important person and second to nonne. If the club do not buy any player no body say anything in that context niether anybody has any right for that. Those clubs choose who is good for their team and auction for those players. Who hell is SRK, what the hell he thinks he is. He has money he cannot say anything about Indian viewers or indian clubs. If his father was from Pakistan what he is doing in India, his family is from Pakistan what his family is doing in India. Why do not you go back to the place where you roots are form. There is no 3 idiots, there is only One big one and that is SRK. IPL is our league and we have right who plays in that, we watch IPL in India and we choose who we should watch in India, not a ____ like SRK tells us.To hell with SRK, if you feel that why do not you go back to your own country and start your own PPL in Pakistan and leave IPL for us Indian to decide and take care.

Boycott cricket AND Bollywood by Harish Kumar on 25 Jan 2010

Cricket and Bollywood are the epitome of Indian mediocrity. Nations that are truly strong in sports, where even the average university student and the average office-goer or factory worker can beat the crap out of our 'mega stars' in a truly manly sport such as soccer or basketball, or in athletics, DO NOT play cricket. Bollywood movies where Indian actors just do lip-sync and make crazy moves imagining it to be dance in idiotic settings are something of an embarrassment for India. The movies and song-and-dance routines are so far removed from reality, it's mind boggling that the actors rake in so much money in a country where there are millions of poor people struggling to make a living. These actors and liquor manufacturers then go on to "buy" cricket teams for a tournament that did not exist until a few years ago, and the public is supposed to cheer for their "local" team? Come on, WTF?! Just boycott Bollywood and cricket - don't waste your time and money on manufactured hype.

SRK is he losing sense!! by Vinodhkumar on 25 Jan 2010

Is SRK thinking that Indian viewers are idiots (not only 3 idiots) that they will just listen to whatever he says. Why is he talking as a holy cow now and why did he not take on pakistan player through bidding and then talk. Is he making an effort to ensure that his new film will get proper audience and not to be labelled as a failure. Shame on such PR prone people..not thinking before they talk. Shame on U SRK!!!

Boycot SRK's Film in India by J.N.Mahanty on 25 Jan 2010

Once again SRK has shown his true colours. Patriotic Indians ( pseudo-secularists, pl excuse) should boycot his forthcoming film

Boycot anti indian people by Bhanu on 25 Jan 2010

The public of Hindustan should boycot all SRK films and even products that he is brand ambassador for,,, live in the real world sharuk then u will not make false and misleading statements like "Pakistan is a great neighbour to have. We are great neighbours, They are good neighbours. Let us love each other".

Agree with SRK - India/Pak. Neighbourhood is a Geographical Fact by Minal Chinchkar on 25 Jan 2010

Let's understand, India and Pakistan are neighbours and it's a geographical fact which can never be changed. So from that perspective it's sensible for the people in both the nations to be good/peaceful with each other. Whatever has happened in the past or even at present is definetely not pardonable, but endless hatred for each other is neither good for India nor for Pakistan. So in that sense whatever SRK has said is absolutely perfect. Due to Politicians or Terrorists or due to the people who beleive in hatred only for their own benefits, people to people relations between India and Pakistan shouldn't get impacted. If there was any issue with Pakistani players or with their security assurance, then IPL Management should have informed them already in respectful manner.

BACKSTABBER by abhijt on 27 Jan 2010

u agree.THEN U MUST AGREE WID PAK,S DEFENCE ANALYST WHO SAYS 26/11 WAS DONE BY INDIANS.how did u feel on 26/11?and if it occurs again den dont blame any1 else.BLAME UR SELF AND UR LACKLUSTURE APPROACH.

Are they really great neighbours ? by Chandramohan Shinde on 25 Jan 2010

Few questions to SRK: 1. What would have been your action had you lost your family memebrs in 26/11 attack by Paki terrorists ? 2. Why you kept silence when Pakis did not participate in IPL-2 ? 3. Why you yourself did not buy anyone of Paki players ? 4. Since IPL is a pure business oriented tournament; is it compulsory on the part of team owners to by Paki players ? 5. Team owners obviously did not want trouble due to Paki players presence in their teams. They played safe. What is wrong in it ? 6. Is it Paki players right to be bought by IPL team owners ? 7. Are you sympathising now for the sake of your audience in Pakistan ? 8. Why don't you tell Pakis not to creat trouble in India ?

reply by sg on 26 Jan 2010

I totally agree srk should have bought the paki players in auction.why did he not do.coward .it is easy to say and difficult to do mr srk.

Boycott PAKI by Babu on 25 Jan 2010

Why everybody is crying sports should not be mixed with politics. SOUTH AFRICA was banned from all sports including cricket for so many years in the world. If this is not politics mixing with sports then what is.

Re: Mr. Shinde by Avinash Baranwal on 25 Jan 2010

I do agree. People after money will not be able to appreciate other virtues.

He has proved 'their' typical mentality by bhushan on 25 Jan 2010

Mr SRK, This 'great neighbour' has killed more than 1 lakh people by promoting terrorism in India. If you feel it as greatness, then migrate to your beloved country. This is typical mentality to shit on the mothercountry and people who feed you.

IPC SRK by Pratap on 25 Jan 2010

Holy cow, srk where were you when bidding was on? This shows your utter hiprocracy?

care for the country and it's country men who had given u every thing. by subhesh on 25 Jan 2010

SRK is always like this, a self centric person who can go any extent to promote his film. He had done it many times. He is the one who started forming a group (with farah khan, sajid khan, karan johar to name a few)in the film industry, there by dividing the Bollywood. whatever he had achieved so far is just with big banners, superb star cast, expertise crew and the biggest being media with his side. Its time saharukh, care for the country and it's country-men who had given u every thing.

Misguided SRK by Devendra Patel on 25 Jan 2010

"Pakistan is a great neighbour to have." Does SRK know about 26/11 Mumbai attacks?

SRK - COMMENT NOT VERY IMPRESSED by charan singh on 25 Jan 2010

SRK SHOULD THINK THAT THIS IS NOT 'CHECK DE INDIA' FILM SHOOTING. HE SHOULD KNOW BEFORE COMMENTING ANY SENSITIVE ISSUES. WHERE WAS HE WHEN THE BIDDING TOOK PLACE.

Humanity dear Khan...you lack in it by vij on 25 Jan 2010

Dear Mr. Khan, if sports and politics should not mix, why does not Pakistan (and other Islamic countries) have sporting relation with Israel? You remember that India did not have sporting relations with South Africa during apartheid era. This was done in interest of Humanity. Its clear that Pakistan has been sponsoring terrorism against Indian, so why not be sensitive to loss of lives and property.

keep your mouth shut, mr.srk by weebeewee on 25 Jan 2010

people like srk should learn to shut their trap. these people live in india, make a life out of it and bat for the terror neighbours. after all that has happened, too! and why did srk himself not bid for a pakistani player? amusing, indeed!

Don't mix politics with sports by Jeanette on 25 Jan 2010

I agree with Shah Rukh Khan 100%. Sport lovers should not mix politics with sports because in the end it is we who lose out on enjoying good cricket. There is no doubt and no one can deny that the Pakistani players are the best in the world, so it is sad that we won't get to see them play. I don't care if people critisize but I am stating the fact that politics should not be mixed with sports.
