The General Body meeting of the Association, which was held in New Delhi on Tuesday evening, accused the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) of "degrading" their services and promoting the interests of the IAS lobby.

Sources said the senior police officers expressed their "anguish" about the "harsh" treatment meted out to them by the DoPT.

The officers who attended the meeting expressed their "resentment" over a number of orders passed by the Department which they felt were against their interests.

The officials alleged that the DoPT has been passing orders in such a way that IAS officers were getting higher powers while their IPS brethren were "degraded", sources said.

The Association urged the Government to appoint only an IPS officer to the post of Union Home Secretary for the better projection of police forces in the country.

They asked Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to convey their anguish about the Pay Commission recommendations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Union Cabinet.

Demanding a separate 'Police Services Pay' on the lines of 'Military Pay Services', sources said some of the members felt that there was a need for improving the morale of the officers in the wake of recent spurt in naxal violence.
