If China continues its ‘policy’, 1962-like situation cannot be ruled out: BJP

Itanagar BJP on Saturday blamed the government for for its ‘weak’ China policy and demanded a pro-active approach to protect India's sovereignty.

"When China was building pressure through incursions --1,040 times last year and 270 times this year besides incursions by helicopter -- to establish itself as a superpower, New Delhi was regrettably terming it as a media hype," BJP chief Rajnath Singh told a press conference here.

Claiming that a Chinese think tank had advised Beijing to split India into 25 to 30 pieces, he demanded a pro-active China policy to protect the sovereignty of the country.

While there was no Sino-India border dispute after the tripartite agreement between India, China and Britain leading to demarcation of McMohan line, it has surfaced now because of the ‘weak’ policy of the Centre, he said.

"If China continues its hegemonistic policy, a 1962-like situation cannot be ruled out," the BJP chief said.

Referring to the proposed diversion of the Brahmaputra by China, he said India should force it to sign a water treaty.

The diversion, if executed, would affect Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Bangladesh.

Singh also criticized the US for tripling its aid to Pakistan even after the admission by President Barack Obama that the assistance was being misused against India.

Bangladeshi infiltration, he said, posed a serious threat in the North East, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, whose demography would change if the Centre does not take action.

Hindu Ruler by Dav on 10 Oct 2009

You need a Hindu dictator to come into power. And he will. This is how it is going to take place. A future war will lead to the total humiliation of India. China launches a ground attack from the disputed borders, gaining territory within weaks. It uses its proxy state, the terrorist nation of Pakistan to engage our conventional forces in a clever distraction offensive. India's lack of nuclear deterrence comes to hanut us(Blame the BJP). The PM, now in hiding as always, authroizes a test in the Indian ocean as a last ditch effort to bring a ceasefire. The low yield only emboldens China, who threatens a nuclear strike. The PM officially surrenders,India has lost. A sniggering Pakistan and China agree to a ceasefire, only returning terrotry deemed non useful. Kashmir is long lost. Hindu's are targeted. The eventuality will bring to power a Hindu Grand Party. It's leader will annex formers parties and supporters. Military and ecominc rise will be truly implemented under his rule.

Nice evaluation by Yari Patel on 10 Oct 2009

I am in total agreement. Like what happened in Germany. At least this is a possibility, it gives India hope. Sadly, we will have to wait for the aggression, before sucha party can rise to power.

BJP is right. by Jaideep Shah on 05 Oct 2009

BJP is spot on with this assessment of the grim situation. What bothers me is that this Congress government is pussyfooting around the issue. They must take a tough stance against China. Lalgarh an Indian territory is under Chinese backed Maoist rule for a year, this itself is a reason for the Central government to act tough.By not doing it for vote bank compulsions, Congress is dooming the Union of India without a fight.

BJP IS NOT RIGHT by Rana on 07 Oct 2009

Neither is BJP right nor is Congress right. Both these parties have neglected the building of the Chinese road through the Aksai Chin area. It was a well known secret in the Ladakh region about the Chinese incursion and road building activity. Ask any local there and they would tell you. This has happened during the BJP rule also.

China by ramesh on 05 Oct 2009

Can india use a nuclear deterent against china? Does india has nuclear weapons to reach chinese cities? Please anyone reply on my email address. I am really concerned. I know our politician are not. Nor does the army.

China---- by romesh.sharma on 05 Oct 2009

Though I am not expert in such matters but onething is more than certain and that is there is no possibility of Indo-China War and if atall this comes one shouldn't even imagine the use of nuclear weapons from either side. They aren't that barbarians as some people claim/think.Why should someone think of Cities? The civilians have nothing to do with Wars? The military strategy mostly concerns to hit resources, depots, military instalments, weapon producing and supply facilities etc.For that naturally India has alternatives. The Army has/s highly concerned about this kind of situation but true these political buffoon not and are inefficient and incapable to manage/deal with such situation.Today one has to win diplomatic Wars, through which the whole world is going through.Indian diplomacy is the worst and lowest in standard. If there is any possibility of nuclear attack/use can be only from Pakistan for it will be only the loser/weak who will take such a step considering it the last resort. What India needs is aggressive and shrewd diplomacy and ofcourse action and not idleness and levity of which our politicians are used to.

Best Patriotic Idea by IITian on 05 Oct 2009

After reading all your patriotic comments, I have an idea. Let us buy weapons from US on loans as we do not have enough planes and other strategic weapons to match China. It is important to have honor than feed people. People will sacrifice everything that is left to win the honorable war . Let us lease our border and people to US to fight China to stand still, just like Pakistan did in Soviet-US war at Afagn-Pak border. We need to be closer to US than Pakistan . Fighting proxy wars has made Pakistan the toughest country in the world. India will be the best country in about 30 years. Jai Hind.

We need the best leaders by Satindar on 04 Oct 2009

While planning our defences India must mobilize iuncrease its strength in all spheres, which means increasing economic development and its benefits for weaker sections ,industrial strength, high technology development, development of strategic and economic infrastructure of border states , and maintain all weather permanent atleast ten mountain divisions along our northern borders. Our diplomacy and political leaders has to be world best which at presnt is rather the opposite of what it should be.

BJP - congrss by SVS Subrahmaniam on 04 Oct 2009

It is BJP or Congress rule the country, may be with allies! In what way BJP “differs” from Congress in thinking or policy towards China? Will they fight with China as some of their “harkathien” are not acceptable for us? Can we be “non friendly” with China? China is striving to become a Super power and one day it will become. To me it is because of their “ultimate unity’ among themselves, which is their super power. All citizens of China feel “Chinese” first and then only region or religion if at all. There are many "Pro China" Buddhists. Like the hockey team of our Hindi movie “Check De India” we are our “regional” first and then only Indians, we are our “religonan” first then only Indians. We do not have a National language at least to unite us better. I am at great pains and vehement to express this feeling. Always it pricks me that we are not showing our “Indianness first” and next like any thing like Chinese. That only is making us fail in the international arena.

Sadly, yes, we have to agree by Ashish Paudwal on 06 Oct 2009

I agree with you, though how sadly only I know. China is all that as you say and we are not.

The Chinese respect power by IMTIAZ KHAN on 04 Oct 2009

It has been 47 years since the debacle of 1962. To avoid a repeat situation we Indians should have been on eternal guard and kept our defences well oiled in terms of weapons, troop deployment and logistical infrastructure. No nation which ignores its defences can be taken seriously by the world. We live in an era of armed peace. Other nations judge us by our WILL to assert ourselves with all available resources to uphold our supreme national interests. The world does not respect weak kneed moralisers. It is important we take the Chinese head on without actually allowing armed conflict to breakout and not to leave them in any doubt that although India will suffer hugely but there would also be an unacceptable price that China would have to pay. I hope the present government understands this.

China is the bigger Enemy by Henber on 04 Oct 2009

The aggressive nature of Chinese is nothing new for India. They had always been teasing us on our borders and in the international stage.Because "Indian" is perceived as weak and soft.India always look for an ideal world and see friends in all smiling faces.Indian think-tanks still believe that Chinese aggreession of 1962 was an accident. But it as preplanned. The way Chou-enlai cheated Nehru clearly shows us we can't trust anyone as far as our territorial integrity is concerned. There are many maps depicting Kashmir as disputed territory. Similar depictions are happening also on ArunachalPradesh. India must make sure that no foreign/domestic institutions violate our rules and norms. If found guilty under our law we must punish them.India has received bad treatment from all nations it helped-Bangladesh,Srilanka,Nepal etc,as they take it for granted that India is there to help only, but once out of danger they can do away with India. We must prepare for an emergency situation with China.

NDA's appeasement of China by Forthright on 04 Oct 2009

On his China visitin June 2003, the then PM Atal Vajpayee signed the (till then) most explicit statement recognising Chinese sovereignty over Tibet: "The Indian side recognizes that the Tibet Autonomous Region is part of the territory of the People's Republic of China and reiterates that it does not allow Tibetans to engage in anti-China political activities in India. The Chinese side expresses its appreciation for the Indian position and reiterates that it is firmly opposed to any attempt and action aimed at splitting China and bringing about the independence of Tibet." (Joint Statement 23 June 2003). It is hypocritical of the BJP to accuse the present government of appeasing China, since they have been in the forefront of such appeasement, and been happy to throw Tibet's rights under the steamroller of Chinese colonialism. Whenever the Tibetan refugees are denied their right to peaceful protest, we should remember the NDA government's role in further weakening their position.

Bloody shame by Kalidas M on 05 Oct 2009

Given a chance these guys whom we trust to counter Congress can go a step further and rub more salt on already bleeding wounds, is it not so? Nehru did the Kanyadan, and Vajapeyee sealed it by signing the marriage certificate. Ha ! Inke baap ki jahagir hain na Tibet. All our sacred places and most of our Himalaya has gone to the other side. To visit Manas you have to beg for Chinese visa, such a shame. Our culture relies a lot on Himalays, now what to do, rewrite it all? I never trusted the guy Vajapayee (or Advani either). All his thoughts can be read off from his face, just like Lal Bahadur. Both lousy leaders.

India must maintain good relations with its neighbours. Not only Indians but every individual as well as every country's relation with neighbours should always be good. Neighbours will reach you to help provided you maintain a good relation with them. Saddam Hussein failed in this and that his neighbours became his enemies as a result of which he himself fell victim eventually.

Economic dominator by shri on 04 Oct 2009

I will strongly suggest not to loosen our focus from pace of economicdevelopment but at the same time I do agree with earlier and Teacher comments that we should also start issuing seperate visaes for Tibetans, Hong Kong residents, Urumquis and Mongolians as to keep tab on China.

Chinese Aggression by Kamalraj Johnson on 04 Oct 2009

I do not know what to say to the Government. The policies should be on three grounds:1)Economic consideration: How China products influence the market and whether their inferior products replace the quality products manufactured in India;2)Technology Consideration: Whether there is any technology transfer or empowerment of the local populace in India since the Chinese are perfect traders and they come, sell, make money and get back to their country;3)Security and Sovereignity Consideration: Can anything be compromised on this as they are national interests? Foreign exchange is being siphoned off from India by their inferior quality imports; Telecom and GSM Sims, Defence related equipments etc.. May the wisdom dawn on the Government to stop this Chinese Aggressors and encourage local manufacturers. Let us make India a manufacturing economy instead of a trading country. Regards, Kamalraj

Freedom is not retained by gifting land to the invaders. by dinesh on 04 Oct 2009

Dear Babu Jagajiven ram ( most likely a paki using a psuedoname) - the more you feed the evil - the stronger it grows -please read the history of the year 1938. Today they will ask for Kashmir and Arunachal pradesh - tomorrow it will be half of Assam . Day after tomorrow - Nagaland and Delhi. The only solution is to stand united and be ready to challenge the invader.

chinese have already invaded india by kumar pal on 04 Oct 2009

why worry about military action, china has already invaded india in commerce, cheap chinese goods have closed down indian factories, and as result india has started loosing its skill, and pretty soon there will not be any skills to restart industries, chinese think very long before even you realise it that you are in trap, you are already in economic trap now, so reduce corruption , have proper tax poicies and you should be ready to face any situation, small country like Japan did rule and invadesd China, so India can do same with china to defend, it is the agreement between local resident of china and chinese government that people give their Political aspiration in exchange of Economic development, it is time that local chinese people realise if it is worth while to forego Political aspiration in exchange of Economic developement, is it good for them, local chinese, to agrevate relation with neighbors Inida, for ever.

BJP, Riot and War by Dr. Ahmed on 04 Oct 2009

Long history short, India better do not dare to war with China. China is competing with US, not with India any more. We need to learn from China. China (and its patriot politicians) is solely interested in sustaining its current economic performance status globally. China has “no time” for India to waste. Historically, the “War

Cheap tricks of BJP. by J.R.Murthy on 04 Oct 2009

When the British left India, they also left behind thousands of miles of unchartered border between India and China. The "border" runs through very difficult unlivable tracks of mountainous no man's land between the two countries. No wonder there is a dispute between China and India even now.Certainly it can be resolved by negotiations.A war with China would not benefit either countries top priority,ie: achieving economic self sufficiency for their people. Irresponsible statements by the BJP,implying a 'repeat of 1962 war with China' is imminent because India is "weak" deserve contempt.I also hear statements here that Indians should support their brave soldiers. Obsolutely. The best way to support them and their families is by not sending them to their deaths in an avoidable war with China. India should focus on providing its citizens with atleast a decent quality of life with basic needs covered.Meanwhile BJP's politically expedient hope and prophecy for India's defeat,is regrettable.

TI underplaying China threat since owned by Christian Sci Monitor? by Manushka on 04 Oct 2009

I have stopped reading TI. This was my response to TI's Dilip Padgaonkar article about China. Your comments welcome!Liked the facts and cautiously posed questions. I dare TI to publish this and comment on whether Bennet Coleman co. that owns TI is owned by Christian Science Monitor or some such a fundamentalist Christian group. TI has become a semi-porn type of a newspaper with articles pictures are so sexual in nature wonder it wants to put Debonair out of the business.

Watch the Indian traitors. by YD on 04 Oct 2009

The amazing thing is how some Congress chamachas are going all out for BJP blood. BJP did "Kandhar", is this person saying that BJP should have let 159 passangers killed ? India will lose out to China because of these twisted "Indians". India has enemy within, we must be very carefull from Indian Jaichands.

Prepare by Ann on 04 Oct 2009

"The more we sweat in drill the less we are going to bleed in war". Prepare and strengthen our armies, in the event of any misadventure like 1962. All hell should be unleashed on China, such should be the intensity of massacre and mayhem that it should take china another 100 years to rebuild china again. Jai Hind.
