Firozabad (UP) Smarting under the defeat in the Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Singh Yadav said on Thursday that he was ready to accept any challenge thrown at him by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

"I have not challenged anybody but if I am challenged, I will accept it," he said when asked if he was daring Rahul Gandhi politically, who is being credited for Raj Babbar's victory in the Lok Sabha by-elections in Firozabad.

Addressing a press conference along with his wife Dimple who lost out to Babbar, Yadav took a dig at the Congress leader, saying he congratulated Gandhi for Congress' victory in Firozabad but he should also accept the blame for his party's defeat in the Assembly bypolls in the state.

Congress has won only one out of 11 Assembly seats which went for bypolls in Uttar Pradesh.

Holding the Congress responsible for backwardness of Uttar Pradesh, Yadav said, "Spending a night at a Dalit's house will not do away with his poverty. These people should also tell them who is responsible for their condition."

He said while Congress had been campaigning for young leadership, they fielded "an old person" in Firozabad...SP's candidate (his wife Dimple Yadav) was the youngest in the fray.

Yadav, son of party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, alleged that BJP and Congress had a tacit understanding which led to SP's defeat in the by-elections. "BJP's votes were diverted to Congress".

The SP leader said that the party will review the reasons behind its defeat.

"We will reach to the people, who did not vote for the SP candidate, and will find reasons for the anger towards the party," Yadav said.

On the issue of the attack on SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi in Maharashtra Assembly, he accused Congress of keeping mum. "Congress has always maintained silence on such issues. It did the same when North Indians were being attacked in Mumbai."

He also held the Congress and BSP Government responsible for the backwardness, price rise and unemployment in Uttar Pradesh.

Akhilesh-Vs-Raul by P.S.Panwar on 12 Nov 2009

Both are the political scion of their families.Raul is more powerful then Akhi in resources. SP was in the power not for its socialist approach, but since muslims became disgusted with Con-grass they ruled the roast. Con-grass has successfully brought back muslim vote bank to their fold. SP has now no more relevance in UP politics and is in way out and it may help BJP to stand again on its feet. Now if Akhi is to take on Raul should/will join BJP in near future.

Yadav must be happy that secular forces won! by Maulana Jossus Krhist on 12 Nov 2009

If Congress and BSP had a tacit understanding to divert the BJP votes to Congress, then SP must be happy that secularism was saved and communal Hindus defeated. These evil satanic "secular" politicians with forked tongues all deserve to suffer in hell, and may it happen soon.

Rahu, Akhalesh et al by Ananth Seth on 12 Nov 2009

It is a amusing to see the media portraying Babbar's victory as success of Rahu mania. This is tweaking of the lowest order. INC looses in 10 and wins in 1 (may be by fluke) and our "of so kangrayzee" media is quick in making a success out of an apparent failure. Jai Ho!

Raul by Peter on 12 Nov 2009

AKHILESH YADAV and SP's Failures at the hustings by Rajesh Vyas on 12 Nov 2009

What nonsense is he talking about? He has already been challenged by RAHUL and Rahul has outsmarted him in all the seats contested. SP is a non-issue party and is about to be consigned to the DUSTBIN of History.
