Agartala, May 15: If controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen is not allowed to return to Kolkata, she would like to stay in Tripura where Bengali is widely spoken when she returns to India before the expiry of her Swedish visa in August.

"I write in Bengali and so I want to stay in a Bengali inhabited place," she said in a telephone interview from Sweden with Ajker Fariad, a leading Bengali daily in Agartala.

"Kolkata is my dream city. I will write to (West Bengal) Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya to allow me to stay in Kolkata and if I am not allowed to stay there I would like to stay in Tripura where most people speak Bengali," she said, in the interview published on Thursday, adding she would also write to the central government.

"Staying in Delhi is impossible so I have to look for a place where people speak Bengali," said Taslima who was hounded out of Kolkata in November in 2007 following violence and was compelled to stay at a safehouse in Delhi before leaving India on March 19.

She said, "I have no doubt that Bengali people love my writing because I write about human rights, women's right and hope that fundamentalists also have understood their mistakes and would not cause any harm if I stay in Kolkata."

Stating that her Swedish resident visa would expire in August and she would return to Delhi before its expiry, Taslima said she was feeling lonely in Sweden and was suffering from depression as she could not write a word in the past few months.
