Chandigarh, March 5 The Chandigarh Housing Board has decided that those with a joint share in property of 100 square yards or more in Mohali, Panchkula and Chandigarh will not be eligible to apply for the CHB’s new housing scheme in Sector 63.

The housing scheme, to be floated next week, is offering 2,080 dwelling units of one, two and three bedroom flats. This project also has provision for dependents of defence pensioners, including his mother, father and spouse. These family members can also apply under the project’s “defence category”, which reserves five per cent for them. Earlier, only defence personnel or ex-servicemen were eligible in this reserved category.

This scheme allows only bonafide residents of Mohali, Panchkula and Chandigarh to apply. However, defence personnel, central and state government employees are exempt from this rule.

More on the details of this project: There are 320 three-bedroom flats, 880 two-bedroom flats, 560 one-bedroom units and 320 flats for the economically weaker sections. The three-bedroom flats have a total area of 2,129 square feet, including parking space, which costs Rs 39.69 lakh. The two-bedroom flats (1,577 square feet, including parking) are for Rs 29.14 lakh and the one bedrooms (900 square feet plus parking) are for Rs 17.29 lakh. The flats for the weaker sections are for Rs 5.67 lakh with an area of 374 square feet but without parking.

For the first time, the parking will be at the basement of the buildings. There will also be no courtyards in front of ground floor flats so that occupants cannot encroach on government land. All residents will have the right to use the open space in front of the ground floor.

Chairman of Chandigarh Housing Board Mohanjit Singh said if applications exceed the number of flats, winners will be decided through a draw of lots. Singh said, “A scheme of 5,000 houses in Sectors 53, 54, 55 and Hallomajra will be floated shortly. While one and two-bedroom flats will be constructed in Hallomajra, Sector 53, 54 and 55 will have one, two and three-bedroom flats to cater to the needs of the middle class”.
