Mumbai, January 27: Indian batsman Robin Uthappa said he would not hesitate in giving it back to the Australians if they try to rattle him by sledging in the upcoming tri-series Down Under.

"We won't sit back and take it, we will give it back when the situation demands," he said.

Speaking to the press on the eve of departure of players who would join the team for the series in Australia, he said he was happy with the management's decision to play him number six and would do his best to make best use of it.

"The opening batsmen set the tempo but when I come in, we have to capitalise on it."

The right-hander said even though he had a disappointing domestic season he was practicing at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) under the guidance of Dav Whatmore and was optimistic that he would play well Down Under.

He said the reason for the selectors not finding him worthy for Test squad was not his hard hitting but the quality of the players in the line-up.

"Even Yuvi had to sit out. Just because I am a hard hitting batsman I don't find a place in the Test squad that's false, look at Andrew Symonds," he said.

The ODIs will be tough with the world champions on one side and the World Cup finalists Sri Lanka on the other, he said. Uthappa, however, was not bothered about the bouncy pitches in Australia.

"In South Africa we played the rising deliveries well and I don't think that it should be a problem here too."

abuse during play by dmoorthy on 30 Jan 2008

Its simple technique practised by some teams, to demoralise you, to deviate your concentration while play. Thats how they make records. You know very well who are those teams.

real truth about auss by chanderk on 29 Jan 2008

real truth of auss in sydeny test Transcript of audio picked up from the Nine Network stump microphone of alleged incident between Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds at the SCG Test earlier this month:Symonds walks up to Harbhajan at the end of an over.Symonds: "Go and yell at your teammates .... You called me monkey again."Matthew Hayden: "Twice. You've got a witness now champ."Hayden approaches Harbhajan.Hayden: "That's the last time."Harbhajan: "No listen he started it."Hayden: "Doesn't matter mate, it's racial vilification mate. It's a shit word and you know it."Soon after, Michael Clarke approaches umpire Mark Benson.Clarke: "It's not the first time. He done it in India and got into strife. That's the second time he's done it."Captain Ricky Ponting walks up to Benson and gestures towards fellow umpire Steve Bucknor.Ponting: "Go and tell him. Go and tell him straight away

real truth about the aussies. by JKS on 30 Jan 2008

This was planned by Aussies. How on earth it is possible that one guy is told something..other man says this is racial and some other person goes and complains to the umpire. This happens in a quick time and when investigated none of these playes except Symonds say they have heard this themselves. The correct approach from Ponting should have been to verify the facts before complaining. However the fact that he chose to complain without verifying the facts clearly shows he was more interested in creating problems than actually resolving it. Ponting is famous for his rudeness and Hyden thinks bullying others is birth right. Symonds should remember he was let off luckily else he too should have been fined equally as he was the one who first abused Harbhajan. Aussie got their way because Mike proctor has a record of bias against the Indian subcontinent teams. However in the court of law they had to forefiet their deposit.

Blabber mouths of India by Joy on 29 Jan 2008

Some of the youngsters like Sreesanth and Robin Uthappa do not engage their brain (if they have one)when they open their big mouth. They have no accomplishments to back them up but open their mouth as wide as their bowling or the balls they chase to get out! Why should you sledge back? You will be playing beautifully into Aussie's hands (as the other duffer Harbajan did). That is exactly what the Aussies want. You can do what Ponting and Symonds did. Report it to the umpires and the match referee and they will take care of it. If you sledge back and exceed in giving back, as a brown man you will be in big trouble. Do not give any chance to the racist umpires and match referees to get you. Discretion is the better part of valour.

Blabber mouths of India by Enjoy on 30 Jan 2008

Mr JOy..I guess before showing how big a brain you have can you tell me why Proctor has not fined any of the aussie player for wrongly claiming a catch when they had grounded the catch. This is the same person who had fined Rashid latiff and banned him for 5 matched for claiming a catch which was not taken. Now if you are suggesting that Utthapa and Bhajji should just complain and be mute spectators otherwise to the sledging of aussies, I guess you need to get your brain examined too.

Joy... no joy in your advice by Hemant on 29 Jan 2008

Umm... wrong mentality and bad advice. If somebody talks shit, you give them hell back. Even if our guys report it to the umpires and match refree... nothing will happen! They will say "culturally it is not bad in Australia", meaning, it shouldn't be bad for us either. Worst case scenario... they will say "regret", "apologize" and get away with it.

India's Triangular series with Aussie by RAMESH B on 28 Jan 2008

Robin and the young group going with him should let their game do the talking and prove their worth. The Aussies mentally disintegrate tough opponents and don't go after kids

Aussies don't sledge below average players by SVS on 27 Jan 2008

So does that mean the Australian Team can give back racist comments when the Indian team start with their racist comments? I'm sure Australia won't need to sledge Robin anyway, he's not a good enough player to worry about.

Robin Utthapa will give back to Aussies and Mr SVS comments by JKS on 27 Jan 2008

SVS seems to be a racist himself. If aussies say something it is sledging and not racial. When Glen Mcgrath asked Ramnaresh Sarwan " how is the *** of Brian testing like" it was not having any problem, it was only when Sarvan responded by Saying go and ask your wife she would know it, then it is racist and it is not correct. Right Mr. SVS.
