"I won't answer him now as this is not the right time because India are in the middle of a Test series (against Australia) and it might affect the focus of the team," Vengsarkar said.
"But I will definitely answer him after the series is over. He will get more than what he has asked for," he added.
Ganguly hit out at selectors for the way he had been treated and said he decided to retire to save himself the humiliation of being treated as the "sacrificial goat" all the time.
"There is no point playing like this. I am not willing to play at their (selectors') mercy. They will pick you now and then dump you. Why should I be the sacrificial goat all the time? It was difficult to accept," said Ganguly, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday.
Vengsarkar also said the BCCI would look into the matter and find out what Ganguly had told the Bengali daily.
"All I had said yesterday (to a TV channel) is that if he had said anything (on selection), the BCCI will look into it," he said.
The News 24 Channel in a press release late on Thursday night quoted Vengsarkar as saying "Sourav should stay away from making any statements till he is playing as they will create unnecessary controversies."
He also said "that BCCI should take some strict action against this as such statements are needless and can affect the morale and spirit of the whole squad".

The only fault of Ganguly is that he has no Kar to end his surname. In Indian cricket, there is different tretment for Kar-walas and non-karwalas. This is true now and in the past also when player like mohinder amrnath was humiliated due to only this reason. Becoz of this Tendulkar can go way with failure after failure even bothering to think of retirement.
I have nothing against Sachin, but he is way past his prime too... I don't remember the last time he made a solid contribution to the team. He has been keeping one slot in the team locked up for more than a decade now. Atleast Ganguly did not quit the captaincy like Sachin. Vengsarkar should take responsibility for all the politics that he indulged in as the selector and stop threatning players who have contributed much more than him to Indian cricket.
I am with Vengsarkar on this one. Was he perfect? No. Was the selection comittee under him perfect? No. No one is perfect. But for Sourav to say that the selection committee was after him is ridiculous. People say that he was out of form for only one series and that is not correct. Look at his past 2 years of performance (i.e. not just batting. even though it makes up the most). He played only good in one or two series (including ODIs). Was he the only one with poor performance, absolutely. They should have dropped Rahul, Sachin and Kumble. But if Sachin is dropped, then Mumbhai will be on fire. If people can get killed and bus can be put on fire for Dada's dropping, then imagine what will happen if Sachin is dropped. That is the country we live in. So, in short, the selection committee has a lot of other influences and requests that it has to take into consideration during the selection process. Is that correct?. No. Ask players like Badrinath and others from yester years.
There's no denying the fact that players ability and performance alone are of no relevance in Indian cricket if he is not well connected. How can undeserving cricketers find a place in the squad if cricket alone is selection criteria.
What reply will u give Vengy...you have been unscupulous and biased towards others like Sachin, etc. Stop shouting after committing such abuse of powers...they say " the mother of the thief has the loudest voice"...
Ganguly is right. For reasons only known to vengsarkar he was dead against Ganguly from the very beginning. In spite of Ganguly's debutal test century at Lords Vengsarkar was against his selection for the next test. Vengsarkar fully deserves what he got.
i'm a big sourav, sachin fan with great ckt knowledge. the only thing is i have not played.sourav is a true champion. no one can do or achieve what he has done for his team. both sourav and sachin are big stars after kapil and gavaskar. one bad series selectors writes off them. no youngster can win you a test match. when sourav and sachin made their debut, the team was not full of youth. they all were well experiened players.who made Kiran More the selector and who's he to say sourav cannot play as long as i'm here.what has he done for india???? who's he to comment on other players career.new team led by dhoni 20-20 world cup winning squad. can this last 5 dys to save or win a test. NO. a 30 player is considered old, not fit, cannot run the team, but what about the board officials. what knowledge of ckt they have.players like sourav, sachin and kumble are born once. their retirement will lead to a major downfall of indian cricket. india doesn't've suitable replacement
Mr.Vengsarkar was a bad selection committee chairman, no question about it. Sourav's contribution to Indian cricket was much more laudable than Vengsarkar's. He created only controversies and got away because a Political heavy weight was blessing him. He should once suit face to face with Navjot Sidhu before a TV camera and let the people judge his credentials.
I love dada, I have very great respect and regard for him. He resurrected Indian Cricket when it was at its nadir. The truth is he is past shelf life. Those who saw the game on thursday and friday in bangalore will agree. He should retire respectfully and with grace. He should not have made those statements when the series was on. I wish him well.
Dada is a greater player than Vengsarkar - Records prove it. So shut your trap Vengsarkar
It has been a truth for so long that the talented cricketers were negleted and those who are just a dead stock were played just for the sake of name they had earned earlier with their game. Dada is one of the victim who is also dumped because he does not tolerate being negleted even when he is performing well ahead of these dead stock. I strongly object to the comment made by a retired cricketer that he will reply to Dada's comments once the series is over. There has to be a board that should only select the players in the team on the basis of their current performance and their overall behaviour in the team. Team management and selection board needs a major overhaul and same is the requirement for their policies to save the Indian cricket.
