New Delhi, May 7: Faced with the possibility of being banned for a few matches by the BCCI, the beleaguered Harbhajan Singh has appealed to the cricket board to give him 'one final chance' before taking disciplinary action against him.

The 27-year-old off-spinner, who has already been banned by the IPL organisers for rest of the tournament for slapping his India teammate S Sreesanth, has written a fresh letter to the BCCI just two days ahead of the disciplinary hearing to be conducted by the Board-appointed Commissioner Sudhir Nanavati in Ahmedabad.

In his letter, Harbhajan said he had apologised to Sreesanth after the incident in Mohali and was willing to do it again in public, a TV channel reported on Wednesday.

"Along with accepting my most sincere and heartfelt apologies over this incident, I would like to appeal to the BCCI's sense of fair play and ask for one final chance before taking any disciplinary action against me over this incident," he said in the letter.

Although the IPL governing council has already penalised him, the BCCI will also punish him separately for the level 4 offence as per the ICC Players' Code of Conduct. A level 4 offence leads to a maximum punishment of a life ban or a minimum ban of five Tests or 10 ODIs.

When contacted, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said Harbhajan has been writing a number of letters and it was not proper for him to divulge the contents.

"The inquiry is going on. We are waiting for the report," Shah said.

HARBHAJAN by Raj Kay on 12 May 2008

Cannot trust after what he has done to a fellow team mate and this has followed immediately after the entire country stood for him on the Symonds incident. He has just shown that all of us who backed are just fools as he continues to be indecent indisciplined person. MR PAWAR IT IS JUST NOT WORTH IT TO BET ON HARBHAJAN - WE HAVE HUNDREDS OF OTHER BRILLIANT CRICKETERS WHO MAY TAKE TO HOOLIGANISM UNLESS THIS GUY IS REINED IN.

Harbhajan Singh by Thodasa on 11 May 2008

If BCCI does not punish Harbhajan further, it will make "Har Bhai"'s slap each other and make mockery of Cricket and game.India has I billion people, let Harbhajan gets out the cricket and do Anger Management training for others.

The chronic idiotic joker! by Ramu on 09 May 2008

This is more funny than his slapping, punching and pushing Sree like a street goon! Now he wants to apologise in public to get away from punishment! What happened to his macho, aggressive approach! What happened to 'One Sikh is Enough' joke! I think what he meant was one Sikh is More than enough for All sports in India (After KPS Gill of Hockey disaster) and Harby the eteranl cricket disaster! Now, all the murderers and rapists can also publicly say sorry and escape punishment in India?! What a joker this idiot is!

Throw out Sree and Harby! by Ramu on 08 May 2008

India have a lot of talented players performing well in the IPL. Get these young, worthy guys in! BCCI; this is your best chance to weed out the stupid, non-cricketers!

Can play in the Women's team! by Dileep on 08 May 2008

Harbajan and Sree! Hey! What happened to your aggression and acting like tough guys?? I am sure after the crying incident (Sree) and begging and crying like a girl (Harbajan) after being punished for the indiscretion, these 'macho actors' are really girls in man's body! They can play for the national women's team! Or else, get rid of them for good by banning both for life! These jokers are non-performing idiots bringing shame to India and Indians!

even no chance in women's team also.... by vivek on 09 May 2008

Indian women's team in good form now. So they will not take new player like Sreesanth. So it is better to join street cricket in his hometown kerala.

harbhajan/shreesanth spat by pradeepjauhar on 08 May 2008

Both of them deserve to be penalised heavily-maybe even being banished from the game. This only will set an example.NDTV has shown in the news that both, Shree and Bhajji, did not stop at only the slapping incident; both went at each others and TV displays are available to show that both are at fault.I am surprised that this action was not taken by the match referee at the first instance. Only the maximum punishment should be meted out to both- that only will teach not them but other such sportsmen alesson. It will send a messaeg worlwide in the interest of cricket discipline.

Bhajji's play by Prof.M.Nyamathullah on 08 May 2008

"To offend and judge are two distinct offices!", said Shakespeare. Bhajji created a big scene during Australian tour and back home his "slapgate" has gained so much notoriety. The matter is pending enquiry. As per due process, he will get a fair chance to make his position clear.Hence, he has no right of appeal to BCCI at this stage. Cricketers are bound by codes of conduct. They cannot neglect their absence, in a fit of anger, nor try to escape the punishment by short cuts.

appeal of BHAJJI by faraz on 08 May 2008

CRICCKET IS BASICALY A GAME OF GENTLEMAEN.SO PERSONS LIKE SHOAIB AKHTER AND HARBHAJAN SHOULD NOT BECOME THE PART OF NATIONAL SQUAD.PLAYERS ARE THE AMBESSDORS OF THEIR COUNTRY AND BEING THE AMBESSDOR OF YOUR COUNTRY NOE SHOULD SHOW HIS POSITIVE CHARACTER.I THINK HERBHAJAN SHOULD SAY SORRY IN THE GENERAL PUBLIC.THIS IS THE ONLY SOLUTION OF THIS WHOLE INCIDENT

Get rid of the weed! by Joy on 08 May 2008

Why anyone who plans and hits another should go scott free? It belies all logic. Harby must be banned for life as he is a useless thug bringing bad name to the entire country. Get rid of this weed before it destroys the plant!

Harby's appeal by Tina on 08 May 2008

Harby , there is no need for you to be too apologetic. This happens in all games. Pl bear in mind that u do not repeat this .Sree santh is no saint. He must have said and done something to provoke Harby. IPL Board should give Harby and Sree santh a final warning and leave it at that. Pl carry on with the game and Harby should be allowed to play the next game.

Making mockery of BCCI rulesfor Code of Conduct by P.P. TALWAR on 08 May 2008

It is rathter funny that the disgraced cricketer, spin bowler Harbhajan Singh accused of physical abuse of slapping his colleage Sreesanth on the cricket field is now asking for one more chance before the punishment is awarded to him by the BCCI. Being a habitual offender, Harbhajan Singh does not deserve any lieniency or mercy, instead he should be awarded a life ban for playing cricket any where in the world. This will set a right precedence by the BCCI

Where is Bhajjis Sense of Sanity? by Nagraj on 08 May 2008

Bhajji is appealing BCCI's sense of fair play! He has lost his marbles. BCCI is simply trying to enforce their code of conduct. What happened to Bhajji's sense of sanity when he slapped Sreesant? BCCI should tighten the screws on Bhajji because he is a chronic problem. He should be further suspended and perhaps the break that he will get due to suspension may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for him in the long run.

Cricket India by India Cricket on 08 May 2008

Sreesanth - Harbhajan from Team India should be banned for some year so that it can be a teach for other junior level player, fear is necessary and they should not be forgive...Once BCCI do it,,,Indian cricket will go in vain...Harbhajan, Sreesanth, Cricket, india cricket, cricket india, cricket news india

Why drag the aussies in this... by Shiva Gopalakrishnan on 08 May 2008

I read a lot of comments drawing parallels between what happened in Sydney and in India. These are 2 very seperate incidents, the only common aspect is Bajji. The earlier has been resolved, sealed and delivered. As for the current one, I see Shree's actions as only border-lining the banter which Indian players/captains have been encouraging. I do not see anything wrong with this. As for Bajji's actions, there has to be a strong message sent to uphold our crediability; The board will

Bhajji is Forgiven by Seere than why the Fuss? by Syed Sadat Hassan NY on 08 May 2008

The reporting puts Sree behaved like a street urchin annoying every body, the umpire, other fellow cricketer and even the coach, who was fined 50% of his match fee for clapping when Bhajji slapped him, during the match. Many experts and cricketers (Hayden) have said its a matter between two individuals. its unfortunate that the incidence happened infront of the glaring cameras and with Preiti on the field seeing Sree crying. Bhajji has tried in vain to defend himself that he is like an elder brother, and he has a right to scold him anywhere. He forgot on the field cricket laws governs the actions. Its monstrous mistake but it must be also to taken into account that Sree has accepted he has not matured. He tried Sarcasm when he should have been genuinely sympathetic to Bhajji. In this context one thing should be kept in mind one don't hurt where it hurts the belly. PAC did good to forgive notorious Shoaib so he can play in IPL. Definitely Bhajji is repenting and saying sorry. Give a chance! Sent him to Gurdwara to clean kitchen pots and shine shoes if there is need to punish further instead of killing him with A Ban.

Crocodile Tears Won't Do Bhajji! by Raghuvir on 08 May 2008

If Bhajji can hit junior like Sreesanth in full view of public, is it not possible that he may be physically assaulting juniors like Sreesanth in dressing room, and they do not speak out due to fear? Bhajji does not deserve any leniency, and must be strictly punished. He got off lightly for supposedly using an abusive word directed towards Symond's mother because offence involving foul language is considered milder than racist remarks. Not only Bhajji, but lots of cricketers especially Aussies are gutter mouth, with four letter words often coming out of their mouth, and bloody is their staple word. Even Symonds himself used a vulgar word against Bhajji after Bhajji pat Lee on his backside, and Bhajji reacted. So there are no saints anywhere. Even Symonds was being portrayed as a victim at that time, but judge Hansen blew the lid off the facade. And don't forget that Brad Hodge used the word 'bastards' and he was let go by Kumble. Bhajji must be punished, but Aussies should not glutton, but take a look at their own players' behaviour too.

banned by shafi patel on 08 May 2008

I think h'bajan is punished enough and bcci should give a strong indication and warning to players that anybody cross line he will be banned for life no matter how big is the player, but for now bhajan should be fined and five match banned and call it quiz.

Ban both idiots for life! by Ramu on 08 May 2008

Send the stupid guy Harbajan out of the game by banning him for life. He does not deserve any more chances as he has used them all already. The shit mouth Sree must also be banned for a couple of years at least and if he persits on opening his sewer mouth, must be banned for life. The life of Indians in Australia has been put into great difficuties after Harbajan's stupid comments and Sree's monkey acts. We distance ourselves from these idiotic Indians, and support only Kumble or Sachin as do the millions of Aussies here!

Re. Ramu's comment by Ajey on 08 May 2008

Speak for yourself Ramu. Indians in Australia are not and must not be apologetic for what happened during Aussie tour. Aussies were totally at fault there. No, life of Indians in Oz has not been put in difficulty by Aussie tour. Don't be a dhimmi and stand up for what is right. What Bhajji did in Oz is answer the worst sledgers, but what he did to Sreesanth deserves condemnation.

Sorry? by Jojo on 08 May 2008

Bhajji is hot headed, pot headed idiot. He is indeed repenting. He has no other option but to repent. All this success gets into people's head really and they start behaving that they can get away with anything. He has shown countless examples of his foolishness. Are there no better players in this country than keeping this foolish person around, who relishes in contraversies? He would have been a chaprasi in someone small time company if he had not been selected to play in the Indian Cricket team, he should never forget that.

Bhajji Vs.BCCI by gautam on 08 May 2008

Bhajji has clearly seen the writing on the wall and his appeal is futile attempt.BCCI will certainly go by the recommendation of Nanavaty findings.Ax should fall on Bhajji and Rajput and both should be served with lifetime ban.Sree the mischief maker will also not go unpunished and might have to seat out for the remainder of IPL matches.Among the plenty BCCI now can do away with such indisciplined elements. It is too dangerous to keep these two in the game because in international games they will bring bad name to BCCI or they even might be deliberately dragged into controversy.

Another chance for Harbhajan by raji on 07 May 2008

Mr.Singh,First think and then do things not first do and then think.See where you are now.You had created enough crap in Australia, you did not learn and you did it again. Why you have to learn through HARD WAYS>Serves you right.

Sorry Not Enough, He Should be Kicke Out! by Madhukar on 07 May 2008

Saying sorry is like a crocodile tears. Bhajji must be kicked out for 2 years, and he needs mental treatment for unprovoked attack! He should be welcome after his brain is redesigned!
