New Delhi, May 7: Faced with the possibility of being banned for a few matches by the BCCI, the beleaguered Harbhajan Singh has appealed to the cricket board to give him 'one final chance' before taking disciplinary action against him.

The 27-year-old off-spinner, who has already been banned by the IPL organisers for rest of the tournament for slapping his India teammate S Sreesanth, has written a fresh letter to the BCCI just two days ahead of the disciplinary hearing to be conducted by the Board-appointed Commissioner Sudhir Nanavati in Ahmedabad.

In his letter, Harbhajan said he had apologised to Sreesanth after the incident in Mohali and was willing to do it again in public, a TV channel reported on Wednesday.

"Along with accepting my most sincere and heartfelt apologies over this incident, I would like to appeal to the BCCI's sense of fair play and ask for one final chance before taking any disciplinary action against me over this incident," he said in the letter.

Although the IPL governing council has already penalised him, the BCCI will also punish him separately for the level 4 offence as per the ICC Players' Code of Conduct. A level 4 offence leads to a maximum punishment of a life ban or a minimum ban of five Tests or 10 ODIs.

When contacted, BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah said Harbhajan has been writing a number of letters and it was not proper for him to divulge the contents.

"The inquiry is going on. We are waiting for the report," Shah said.

Say Sorry by Vasanth on 07 May 2008

Really a further punishment in the form of ban for a few more matches and/or fine will not be an end of the world for Bhajji. Saying sorry is not enough, but he must pay for the outrageous act that he committed. As for Sreesanth provoking him during the match, nobody thinks that Bhajji is a choir boy either. He and lot of other bowlers also talk trash on the field towards other batsman. Does it mean if someone like Hayden or Symonds would be justified in hitting him? Also it must be kept in mind that the ugly Sydney incident arose because Bhajji hit Brett Lee on his buttocks with a bat, and then said he did it in zest. The BCCI went out of its way to defend that idiot, and he also won the sympathy of many countrymen. His stupid act cost BCCI Rs. 50 lakhs in expenses! The point is why the hell this idiot getting physical with other players whether in supposedly zest or in anger? He should be made to pay and realise that it is a great honour to play for the country where millions are still starving, and appreciate that how fortunate he is. He must be banned for atleast one year from playing any form of cricket. Actually that would be like giving him one more chance, where he can do some introspection.

Send Him to Gurdwara to Repent by Syed Sadat Hassan NY on 07 May 2008

The reporting puts Sree behaved like a street urchin annoying every body, the umpire, other fellow cricketer and even the coach, who was fined 50% of his match fee for clapping when Bhajji slapped him, during the match. Many experts and cricketers (Hayden) have said its a matter between two individuals. its unfortunate that the incidence happened infront of the glaring cameras and with Preiti on the field seeing Sree crying. Bhajji has tried in vain to defend himself that he is like an elder brother, and he has a right to scold him anywhere. He forgot on the field cricket laws governs the actions. Its monstrous mistake but it must be also to taken into account that Sree has accepted he has not matured. He tried Sarcasm when he should have been genuinely sympathetic to Bhajji. In this context one thing should be kept in mind one don't hurt where it hurts the belly. PAC did good to forgive notorious Shoaib so he can play in IPL. Definitely Bhajji is repenting and saying sorry. Give a chance! Sent him to Gurdwara to clean kitchen pots and shine shoes if there is need to punish further.

Harbi by Stepjen McDermot on 07 May 2008

Maybe Harbi doesn't realize it but he was given a second chance when an entire nation and the BCCI supported him completely during his Australian tour. He blew away that chance and he paid for it.

Punishment by Kabali on 07 May 2008

I think it's a fair decision to punish Bhajji . It's a good learning for all aggressive youngsters to keep their cool and play.

Punishment to Bhajji by K. Samsundaram on 07 May 2008

Sir, I do not know why Sreesanth was left but strongly believe that there should be no relaxation in the punishment. Give consolation to Bhajji by punishing Sreesanth also. There are scores of better players than them who are being proved now. When their remunerations are a thousand a times more than an Army Officer how much greater discipline should they maintain? It is his chronic problem.Public apologies never work with them because they never felt that they are accountable to people/country.

Hate You BCCI by alkapuri on 07 May 2008

I hate you BCCI to have done this against Harbhajan. You are filled with petty Businessmen like Modi who is basically a Big Cheat and ofcourse he wants to punish Bhajji to let others in BCCI know who is the Boss.

Harbhajan by Iqbal on 07 May 2008

I think BCCI should learn a lot from PCB which has been considerate enough for Shoaib Akhtar to have allowed him to play in IPL. So I feel Harbhajan should be considered to be part of the team, afterall heregrets what he did. Wedo care about coming together of people or are those just words. We will have to see what BCCI has to say. Although Sharad Pawar is the most sensible amongst them.

Bhajji by Roberto on 07 May 2008

I have strongly felt the biasedness against Harbhajan. I had seen the behavior of Sreesanth, it is unbelievable how he has been left scot free. This is atrocious to be punishing Harbhajan within ICC regulations. Look he was the one who got us Australia both Symmonds and Hayden out when India was in trouble. He won the Australia Competition. How come BCCI never thought of that? Do they have respect for Indians at all or are they surrogate of ICC only. Is BCCI Indian at all??

Harbhajan by Vasu on 07 May 2008

How can BCCI do this? Are they nationalist at all. I sometimes feel they are the extension of the English ICC. How can they equate the rules with the National Team. First this was a small event, then it became a huge thing, now this is only cricket India is going to get. Are we not entitled to see Harbhajan at other forms of cricket

Harbhajan by aryan on 07 May 2008

It is atrocious on part of the BCCI to have done this to Harbhajan. I feel BCCI is behaving like a monopoly and their policies are Draconian. They are behaving illegally here. Somebody should get to the BCCI this time. Maybe we can have ICL now, all cheers to Kapil. I hate you BCCI for hurting Bhajji.....

Bhaji misconduct by nimmi on 07 May 2008

since both players hugged shook hands, strongly appeal to BCCI adoptFORGET AND FORGIVE POLICY,instead ending ones career,BCCI or the commentrators not going to gain any thing.Might be rewarded there after. In Gita/Quran/Granth sahib,FORGET AND FORGIVEAPPROACH IS MORE IN PEN THEN NOW WHAT THE MEDIA IS PLAYING

Harbhajan by YD on 07 May 2008

BCCI must not forget that Harbhajan slapped Shreesant, what he thinks he is ? If BCCI will not take a tough action then it will have no right to take the side of Indian players in international games.

Bhajji episode by Rajendra Patel on 07 May 2008

Why the double standard adopted by the media and IPL. What they are waiting for??? Another incident like drug abuse or rape scene by Akhtar. Mr. Modi you should be ashamed of yourself being a care taker of the game what you are doing?? YOU DON'T HAVE RIGHT TO BAN BHAJJI AS YOU HAVE ALLOWED AKHTAR TO PLAY IN IPL WHO HAS MORE SERIOUS CHARGES THEN BHAJJI.THIS IS SELF DESCRIMINATION.IT SEEMS THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE ABOVE THE IPL,CRICKET AND COUNTRY'S PRESTIGE. SHAME ON INDIA AND PUBLIC WATCHING GAME IN WHICH PLAYERS LIKE AKHTAR AND BHAJJI ARE PLAYING.

Forgive Whren One Regrets by Syed Sadat Hassan NY on 07 May 2008

The report suggests that for the whole game Sree behaved like a street urchin annoying every body, the umpire, other fellow cricketer and even the coach, who was fined 50% of his match fee for clpping when Bhajji slapped him. Many commentators and cricketers have said its a matter between two individuals. Its unfortunate that the incidence happened infront of the glaring cameras and with Preiti on the field seeing Sree crying. Bhajji has tried in vain to defend himself that he is like an elder brother to him, and he has a right to scold him anywhere. He forgot here the field was governed by cricket rules. Its blunderous mistake but it must be also to taken into account that Sree has accepted he has not matured. He tried Sarcasm when he should have been genuinely sympathetic to Bhajji. In this context one thing should be kept in mind one don't hurt where it hurts the belly. PAC did good to forgive Shaoib so he can play in IPL.Definitely Bhajji is repenting and saying sorry. Sheeshanth need to be pruned by Avijit Roy on 07 May 2008

Harbhajan is a hot headed immature guy with clean heart but this Sheeshanth is not only irritating but also undigestable. This so called "aggressive" Shheshanth's crying in the field shows that how timid he is.

Harbhajan by JS Stephen on 07 May 2008

Harbhajan had the guts to do it. Sreesanth was asking (or rather begging) for it for a long time from both national and international players. Hope that Sreesanth will mellow down. If indeed he does so, he should publicly thank Harbhajan for the favour. Sreesanth's gimmics were in fact disgusting. I am happy that Bhajji did what I was yearning for.

Harbahajan Singh. by CV Ravindran on 07 May 2008

There is an organized way of slapping by Harbhajan Singh and Sreesanth needs protection. The Kerala Cricket association should depute one lawyer to BCCI since more than one player with the complicity of the Managerof the Mumbai team is involved. You have to take the statement of Lalchand Rajput and other players who have been involved in this bad incident.Jharbhajan Singh has brought bad name to the Country.Everyone in Australia know about this man.BCCI should make a thorough probe on this.

Harbhajan should get appropriate punishment by sam on 07 May 2008

BCCI must not yield to such pathetic uttering from Harbhajan Singh. He has given enough pain to peace loving people of our country. He had had his chances but with every incident his offense is becoming more and more inhuman. May be he needs help from psychiatrists. Let BCCI set a precedent so that in future other offending players are treated same way.

harbhajan by shesh on 07 May 2008

ask him to do farming for 10 years that will cool his temper and after that take an aptitude test if he deserves coming back to indian team it is a shame if such cricketers are given a chance after such blunder
