Mumbai, February 9: Invoking the issue of Marathi pride, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Saturday hit out at North Indians again, after lying low for two days.

In a special article written by him in the Marathi daily Maharashtra Times, Thackeray said, "Even if the whole world opposes my stand, I and my party will continue the struggle to protect Marathi culture, Maharashtrian people and will trample the goondaism of UP and Bihar."

The article titled Majhi bhumika, majha ladha (My stand, my struggle) said, "At this juncture I feel like asking the Maharashtrian people that if I am voicing your true emotion, then why are you sitting on the fence. Come join me in this struggle."

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi took up the issue of Tamils living in Malaysia, then why can't the MNS chief speak for Maharashtrians, the article asked.

Raj said, "If the Prime Minister can rake up the issue of ban on turbans for the Sikhs in France when the French President came to India, if Karunanidhi could take up the issue of problems of Tamils in Malaysia with the Malaysian government, if the Hindi channels in Mumbai spew venom against Maharashtra while supporting the people from UP and Bihar, then how come I am dubbed as a 'goonda', when I speak about the self-respect of the state?"

Raj Thackeray alleged that many parties in Tamil Nadu maintain ties with the LTTE even though it is responsible for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

He said, "In Tamil Nadu, several political parties maintain ties with the LTTE even though it is responsible for the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi only because it speaks about the Tamils."

He said, "In West Bengal when Sourav Ganguly is dropped from the team, the communists in that region become Bengalis and fight for him. Is this not regionalism?"

"But when I and my party rake up the issue of Marathi pride how is it that we become bad? This is nothing but rubbing salt on the wounds of Marathi people," he added.

Attacking Amitabh Bachchan, Thackeray said so much has been highlighted that the actor has worked for free for his Marathi makeup man Deepak Sawant's Marathi film. "But does it mean he (Amitabh) has done any favour to Maharashtra?" he asked.

Thackeray said, "Many people compare the agitation of MNS with Shiv Sena because of the mode of agitation. But the main difference is that while Shiv Sena launched an agitation for the poor Marathi unemployed youth, the agitation of MNS is directed against the "goondaism" of North Indians."

Commenting on Shiv Sena, Raj Thackeray said, "At the time when Balasaheb (Bal Thackeray) was fully active, Shiv Sena was regarded as the party of the Marathi people. That time I also regarded it as my party and I had been fighting for the Marathi pride. It is not that I have taken a new agenda for my party."

He said, "Today in this difficult times I and my associates have put our political careers at stake. Some Marathi people are even abusing us. But I know their future generations will thank me for the stand that I have taken."

Explaining the reason for spearheading the agitation against the North Indians, Thackeray said, "They wanted to make Hindi mandatory in Bombay Municipal Corporation. They started celebrating the Chhatt Puja and Uttar Bharatiya Diwas in a big way."

"We will put a stop to the 'Dadagiri' of people of UP and Bihar in Maharashtra," he added.

Raj Thackeray, eschew bad politics. by Sunil Uniyal on 09 Feb 2008

Shri Raj Thackeray wants to pitchfork his party MNS by raking up hatred against North Indians in particular and non-Marathis in general. He believes that by such short cuts he can make himself powerful politically. But, is Maharashtra only for Marathi people? Is it not a part of India that is Bharat? If yes, then I have the right to go there and work there and settle there. Shri Raj Thackeray is playing bad politics which is harmful not only to Maharashtra but the entire country. It will only spell chaos and anarchy and bring untold misery to Marathis and non-Marathis alike. I pray God grants him 'sadbuddhi'.

BAL, UDDHAV AND RAJ THACKERAY, YOUR SENAS' DAYS ARE NUMBERED by Mani Gyan Prakash on 09 Feb 2008

The comments in this forum on the future of the Shiv Sena and Mahabharat Nirman Sena are thought provoking. The image of the Senas in the general public is that they are intemperate in their condemnation of their perceived enemies, a readiness to resort to street methods; organising bandhs, vandalising offices of their opponents and beating up or manhandling suspected individuals. They decide what is the flavour of the season, first the Communists, then the South Indians, the Udipi hotelwalas, then the Gujaratis, the Muslims and now Bangladeshis, Biharis and UP bhaiyyas. They have to invent perceived enemies to retain their presence. To change this image is to change their very soul, they are condemned by destiny to remain in this ditch. The moderates realize this and fear the erosion of their popularity and their constituency, the middle class unemployed Maharashtrian youth. The older generation, who prospered are unwilling to pursue the same line knowing fully well that mindless violence will only bring ruin to themselves in the long run. In the meanwhile, the world around has changed. Globalisation , the telecom and internet revolutions have changed the lifestyles of those that they seek to represent. No longer is a middle class Maharashtrian youth willing to opt for the kind of jobs that the Senas wish to fight for; poorly paid jobs in the Govt run institutions. Their agenda like the Mee Mumbaikar does not gel with its image of a street fighting outfit. Their future is bleak indeed.

BAL THACKERAY'S SHIV SENA IS LIKE DENGU VIRUS by G. K. Srinivas Iyer on 09 Feb 2008

Bal Thackeray's Shiv Sena calls his fellow Goonda Raj Thackeray's Mahabharat Nirman Sena as ‘bird flu affected poultry, that has no market value’. However this description applies to Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena as well. His Shiv Sena or Goonda Raj Thackeray’s Mahabharat Nirman Sena have lost their relevance long back. It was founded and fed on hatred, it had only crocodile tears to shed for poor Maharashtrian middle class and the poor while it amassed immense wealth for one family and some of their chamchas and kutas. The surprise is it survived all these years. In this age of globalisation, where economics is the key word, these rabble rousing party/parties have no relevance any more. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupt absolutely. The day it tasted political power and the moment it became clear that amassing wealth under any means is its only aim, Maharashtrian middle class and the poor felt let down and they have started distancing themselves from it. It is still time for those who call themselves Marathis to wake up from the trance of these people’s opium of ‘Me Marathi Manus’ and realise that both these Senas are nothing but Mafia outfits who have taken you people on a long ride on their Merry-go-Round and have made you ‘BEWAQOOF’ AND ‘ULUS’ all these years while they have amassed fortunes beyond anybody’s dreams.

Message to Raj Thakare by braj on 09 Feb 2008

Mr Raj, One way you are talking about the welfare of Marathi's, another side you want Marathi's to be distracted out of other Indian State. This is not the solution for your problem, you have raised. You have all right to demand and preserve the pride and plight of Marathi's. But on the top of that, how is contributing to the whole nation. With your all statements above, why you want to create a hatred in non marathi state for our sweet marathi people.

Raj Thackerey by Sam Desai on 09 Feb 2008

Raj is right. The North Indians are really aggressive and find the Maharashtrians ghaaties and are purposely oppressing the Maharashtrians where ever they can.

FINISH THE GOONDAGIRI OF BAL, UDDHAV AND RAJ THACKERAY ONCE AND FOR ALL by ANTI-FASCISTS LEAGUE on 09 Feb 2008

Get to know the Thackeray Family of Goondas, here and now AND FINISH THEM ONCE AND FOR ALL BEFORE THEY PLAY HAVOC WITH THE ECONOMY OF THE COUNTRY AND THE LIVES OF MILLIONS OF CITIZENS OF INDIA WHO HAVE A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO LIVE, CARRY ON BUSINESS AND EARN THEIR LIVELIHOODS IN ANY PART OF THE COUNTRY THEY WISH. TO know the meaning of `goonda' many people are referring to gundu (fat) dictionaries and only ending up disappointed because the definition is not as dramatic as recent headlines. The Concise Oxford English Dictionary defines the word quite simply as "n. Indian a hired thug or bully," and Encarta doesn't elaborate either when saying, "South Asia ruffian or hooligan." The common man is obviously in a hurry to get to know the goonda. And an indication of his ubiquitous curiosity has been showing in all the media lines such as, `goonda who,' and `help with goonda.' In atonement, therefore, here is some guidance on the subject. Who is a goonda? Goonda means a person, who either by himself or as a member of or leader of a gang, habitually commits or attempts to commit or abets the commission of offences, punishable under Chapter XVI or Chapter XVII or Chapter XXII of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860.SO DESPITE THE LAWS, WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT NOT PROTECTING ITS CITIZENS FROM THESE GOONDAS? WHAT KIND OF BLOODY DEMOCRACY IS IT IF THERE IS NO SAFEGUARD OF LIFE, LIBERTY AND PROPERTY? ALL BLOODY LEADERS OF INDIA SHOULD HANG THEIR HEADS IN SHAME FOR BRINGING INDIA TO SUCH SORRY PASS. HOW ARE INDIANS ANY DIFFERENT FROM THOSE KILLING EACH OTHER IN THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES OF KENYA AND RWANDA AND BURUNDI IN THE NAME OF TRIBE, CLAN, CASTE, LINGUISTIC OR PROVINCIAL DIFFERENCES?

Matter of real concern---- by romesh.sharma on 09 Feb 2008

One can very well understand the plight and resentment of the migrants from Bihar and UP/Uttaranchal and Jharkhand etc. They are forced because of corrupt governance there and its the local govts responsible for this conflict. These provinces have big say and stake in the Centre and get maximum possible aid but there is practically no improvement in infrastruture and progress in people's affair. Its not the poor to be blamedfor backwardness of these states but the politicians who are amassing money and exploiting the innocent/ignorants alike. Its not only in Mahrashtra but the conditions in Punjab and whole of North-East are getting worst because of this huge number of migrants from these provinces and BDesh as well. Moreover he migrants don't simply integrate with the locals and respect/adapt th values of that state. One has to be grateful and sow concern to be part of the land. But politicians of these states have nothing to say because they are the real culprits. Why the hell can't they invest or distribute the amassed money and assests in the interests of those who have entrusted them power and reprsentation!Look at Lalu,Mayawati,AmarSingh,Sonia like people who are mercilessly raping the nation's economy through embezzlements and kick-backs.Such politicians are shameless and must stop critizing Raj and many other Rajs who are to come-up with same slogans.Above all this policy of creating divisions is introduced by Congress though in different ways.

HANG BAL, UDDHAV AND RAJ THACKERAY FROM THE NEAREST TREE by ANTI-FASCISTS LEAGUE on 09 Feb 2008

This is the 60 lakhth time that the tens of millions of Indians have been made 'Bewaquoof' by their corrupt leaders in 60 years of so-called freedom. What more proof does anyone require? What Raj Thackeray has uttered and done has violated many State and Central Government statutes and laws. One of the statutes is the Goondas Act? In fact, the legislation has a long name: "The Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug-offenders, Forest-offenders, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum-grabbers and Video Pirates Act, 1982." However, it's common to use the shorthand `Goondas Act' in news bulletins, so as not to offend listeners' interest. Goonda Acts, as listed in the Indian Penal Codes Chapters include `offences against the human body' such as murder, `offences against property' such as dacoity, and `criminal intimidation, insult and annoyance.' Where does goonda come from? I guess they can come from all places but if you're looking for the origin of the word, one suggestion is Hindi gunda `rascal.' Another theory is that goondas are related to goons. Well, you never know if the local bully has a foreign branch too but goon means thug, whose designation is professional gangster, and job-description involves beating up or terrorising people. Less violently, and more insultingly, goon is a clumsy person. However, it seems Hugh Rawson's `Wicked Words' traces goon to the Hindi gunda, spelt goondah in British newspapers of the 1920s. Now tell me does all this not fit Raj Thackeray, Bal Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray? Who is Patil kidding? INDIA’S CORRUPT LEADERS HAVE MADE THE PUBLIC BEWAQUOOF BY SUCH STATEMENTS FOR TOO LONG. WAIT TILL THEY HANG YOU LOT BY THE NEAREST TREE AS GANDHIJI HAD WARNED AND PREDICTED YEARS BACK.

CENTRAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS AND THE POLICE MUST SAFEGUARD THESE CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEES AND RIGHTS by Sant Gyaneshwar on 09 Feb 2008

Indians from one province of India living in the other integral part of India are not foreigners and have a constitutional right and guarantee to live, carry on business and earn their livelihood in any other part of the country they wish without being harassed by goondas like Raj, Bal or Uddhav Thackeray. And under this constitutional right and guarantee, it is the duty of the State and Central Governments, state and central Home Ministries and police to safeguard and protect the lives, liberty and property of the citizens. Mr Goel what you say has no logic. On the one hand you say that all politicians including Bal Thackeray divide people on the basis of caste, religion and so on for their vote bank politics and then contradict yourself by justifying goondas like Raj Thackeray. By the same arguement, what about millions of Marathis living and working in other provinces of India? Should they be asked to go back to so-called 'Amchi Mumbai' Will Bal, Uddhav or Raj Thackeray accommodate these millions of Marathis working in other States in their homes if they are sent back to where they came from?

RAJ Thakre issue by Ramesh on 09 Feb 2008

Look at the issue as a performance .Bihar,UP politicians are performing very basdly from last so many years inspite they have big hold on new delhi .This is the main reason for migration of these are people in to other developing parts of country .Its a history that whenever large no of people migrate from one part to other part of land ,problem is always there .So real solution to this problem is people of UP,Bihar must give support to CM like Nitish kumar to develop things fast there .Do not support cartoons like Lalu ,Maya ,Mulayam .

Where is the law and police? by Deepak on 09 Feb 2008

This anti-social evil wanna be in the news by resorting to cheap methods of publicity. Where is the law? Police and government officials have now proved that laws and punishments are meant for only poor and illiterate people. MNS should be derecognised at an earliest.

Regionalism by Babuchandra on 09 Feb 2008

Media should ignore Raj Thackeray. Do not publish his utterances to gain political mileage.

You are still wrong by Amit Bhardwaj on 09 Feb 2008

Raj, stop all these rubbish things. What our PM Manmohan Singh, Karunanidhi and Sourav Ganguli fans did was their own way to support their people. Besides, they didn’t harm anytime, they didn’t insult anyone’s culture, Gods and festivals. But Raj and his hooligan party did. This is the difference. For the last two days he was silent due to fear of getting arrested. Now, when nothing have been done against him, he has been continueing it further. So, govt officials are requested to take an immediate action before it’s too late.

No alarm yet by baldtree on 09 Feb 2008

Obviously, Raj wants to be seen as a messiah and if arrested as a Martyr to Mumbaikars cause. Such statements should be ignored but if violence occurs, he should be made accountable.

Hope this fight provides us a lot of entertainment lol by Marathi Manhus on 09 Feb 2008

The problem is that Samajwadi Party is run by goons like Abu Azmi, and we know which bank they target, and the way they run politics. Again, he is right about Amitabh, without naming Amitabh's caste (which is easy to find out in his late father's autobiography, where he starts with a caste based rant), the way Amitabh has promoted certain mediocre persons and aligned with certain political types was absolutely gross. In his early and mid acting career, most of the finance for his movies came from the likes of Haji Mastan and D party. Hence the right way to look at this "ladha" is not bullshit about Marathi or Uttar Bhartiya "pride" (neither of them seem to exist, by the way) but as fight for controlling certain money sources in Mumbai business. And of course, the nephew has to prove he is better than the son. Mahabharat is on, let's all watch and enjoy "Samajwadi" Party vs. M "Nephew" Party. We should thank Raj, Mumbai was beginning to get boring.

Misunderstood Raj and misinterpreted his protest---- by romesh.sharma on 09 Feb 2008

Hey,Raj the answer to your quaries is one and that is you are too good, too true, too direct and too rigid.Indian politics need characters of entirely opposite character.Be cunning and treacherous with your own people, keep on telling lies, keep on betraying people with twisted language and be flexible to bow and listen what the traitors of the nation say.Today in KalYug only such people are successful and lead the Govt. They are against you and your way of dealing with problem is seen dangerous to the malevolent desires of croocks.Perhaps they see another NarendraModi in you and are afraid of loosing the battle against truth and good. You or Modi like people can't bring RamRajya but they can change the mind of the populace and induce feelings of patriotism. To achieve that goal you have to make serious compromise within family and evade foolish idealogical conflicts.Talk to BalThackerey and listen to him.

What is wrong the stand taken by Mr. Raj Thakare ,when marathi manoos was looking to Shivsena , who ignoring him for vote bank politicics in Mumbai. Infact in mumbai apart from north indians ,punjabi, south indians Gujati, bengali etc are living long together with maharishtrian . Howevernorth indians invited leaders from their states and wanted to show their identity separately insted of mixing with the culter of maharashtra.

Rajs comments on goondaism by mash paul on 09 Feb 2008

Somebody tell this Raj Thackeray, that if he has any knowledge of this world than india would be the first country where some people like him think that the Maharashtra state belong to the maharashtrians.India is a Republic(Hello Raj do you know what a Republic is)and all states are together and everybody has the right to live and work in any state.France and Malaysia dont belong to India so there you have to fight for your basic rights.
