Illegal medicines worth Rs 7.55 lakh seized in Mohali industrial area

SAS Nagar, March 11 The drug control wing of the State Health Department has seized illegal medicines worth Rs 7.55 lakh from a raid conducted at a drug-manufacturing unit in Phase IX of Mohali Industrial Area on Monday.

The raid was a part of the ongoing drive by the department to check drug abuse in the city.

Giving details of the raid, Dr SPS Sohal, Director Health Services, Punjab, today stated that a team headed by Pradeep Kumar, State Licensing Authority, was formed to conduct the raid.

The other members of the team included drug inspector of Amritsar Sanjeev Kumar and Nawanshaher drug inspector Ramandip Kaur.

The team raided the manufacturing premises of M/s Micro Bio Sciences Ltd that was engaged in manufacturing the medicines without licence and government permission.

The seized medicines were sent for laboratory test to ascertain their quality. Punjab Drug Controller Bhag Singh said that the seized medicines included some life-saving drugs like Amoxicillin with clavunic acid, Pantaprazol injections and Artesunat injections.

He said the firm had violated the Section 18 C of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act 1940.
