New Delhi, March 11: The Australians may tend to believe otherwise but volatile Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh insists he is not arrogant but just a fighter.

The colourful off-spinner, who, along with Andrew Symonds figured prominently in the racism saga in Australia, said he was not arrogant but asserted he would not take it lying down if his integrity was questioned.

"I'm not arrogant but I do stand up for my rights (especially) when somebody questions my integrity," the star India player was quoted as saying.

Though he did not disclose the details, Harbhajan made it clear that there was enough war of words between the players during India's tour of Australia.

"The stuff they say I can't even mention on TV you know, the kind of stuff I have heard on ground. I think the best way was to show it on the field... was to play the best cricket.

To win the series was the best way to answer people," he said.

Since the Sydney row, Harbhajan was greeted with boos by the hostile Australian crowd wherever he went but the off-spinner said he took it in his stride.

"I think they (Australian fans) love me because they like fighters and I'm the kind of guy who will fight. Whenever I'm on the field I will definitely fight. I feel so proud whenever I represent my country and don the national colours.

"When representing my country, I'll fight for the people of India. For them, I'll definitely fight and I'll try to win each and every match," he said, hinting there would not be any let up in his aggression.

Lion Hearted Warrior Harbhajan by Ankur on 12 Mar 2008

Harbhajan rightly called Hayden a “big liar”. He did a great job exposing their fig leaf. Hayden, Ponting, and Clarke did lie a big time to the Judge Hansen, who noticed that it was surprising they seemed to remember that Harbhajan used ‘monkey’ word against Symonds, but had no recollection of what else was said between Harbhajan and Symonds. In deciding the punishment, the judge also took into account the provocation by Symonds in the form of choice vulgar words against Harbhajan. It amazes me how much they are making out of the ALLEGED, but unproven monkey remark by Harbhajan, who has actually confessed to using foul term against Symonds in retaliation. Nobody made that big a fuss when Darrell Lehman who is now FCA president, who used vulgar AND racist term against Sri Lankans after being given out correctly by the umpires. He was only lightly punished. The second case of David Hooks, a former Aussie test player, who called that South African woman who claimed to be involved with Shane Warne a ‘back haired sheila’, and then he later defended himself by saying that this is what Australians say about South Africans. Nobody make any noise about that word, ‘back haired sheila’ that time. Even now they regularly use the word ‘pommies’ for English players, which is actually racist. ‘Pommies’ means those whose skin becomes red like a pomegranate in the heat of the sun. Incidentally David Hooks then later on verbally and physically abused a bouncer of a bar in Melbourne, and after the bouncer hit him back, he died a tragic death soon afterwards. The bouncer was acquitted of any charges, but he still kept receiving threats form the public, and he had to move to a different place. As usual almost everybody in the Australian cricket fraternity defended him. He did not deserve what happened to him, but he was in trouble many times before too. Another thing that is amazing is that Aussies seem to believe and try to ram down the throats of others that it is not a big deal if they use four letter word and other vulgarities. It is ok for them to use all the gutter words, make demeaning remarks against opposition players’ wives, and sisters, etc. So they are making a determination and saying look, this gutter is ok, but that gutter is horrible! I can throw mud on you from this gutter, and you have to use the same gutter as I do! With Aussies it is like let’s play gutter-gutter! They are the pioneers in promoting this gutter brand of cricket!

High and mighty by Brian on 12 Mar 2008

What terms do use you on a person of a lower caste than you? or maybe a muslim, what terms do you use on Pakastanis?, Get ya facts right Darren lehman served a 5 match ban for his comments, its just we don't cry about it and threaten to go home. and another POM (POMMY) means 'PRISONER OF her Majesty) which was a term used on convicts, we just like to call the English it now because we ended up in paradise while they stayed in hell.

Hats off to you... by Des N M on 12 Mar 2008

Some (not all) Ozs define arrogance as 'standing up for one's rights' especially when his/her rights have been breached by another Oz. So better to be 'arrogant' rather than being treated as a vegetable. As we say in Oz land, 'Good on'ya mate'. Cheers

Harbhajan is the man! by Indian Pride on 12 Mar 2008

Anyone who think Bhajji is at fault here is obviously an idiot...Indians have a bad habit of taking crap from others and not giving it back...Im 100% behing Bhajji on this one...we are proud of you dude...go kick some more ass

Harbhajan did what a brave man would do. by Sheetal on 12 Mar 2008

To all who critisize Harbhajan. You should be mature enough to see that he has every right to defend himself in foreign land against hostile team and crowd. Also, now that the Sher has risen, other cricketers will be afraid to ruffle his feathers. Harbhajan showed power now people (Cricketers) will avoid confrontation with him as they know he will hit back where it hurts most. Sachin loves him. Why? Harbhajan has the carishma to fight and make it happen.

Good Job Bhajji..!! by Parjeet Singh on 12 Mar 2008

Good Job Bhajji..!! You have put Indian Pride high..! Well done..!!We don't need to be timid infront of such arrogant ppl..!!

Harbhajan singh not an arrogant by Gurpal Saundh on 12 Mar 2008

The whole strategy and support of BCCI and the way they handled the issues while supporting vibrant Bhajji is highly appreciable. While being in Sydney, I noticed the OZ media tried to say any thing to break the spirit of Indian team, however with great leadership and sensibly handling the issue gave strength to players who out smarted the Aussies. Harbhajan's stature has grown equivalent to the greatest bowler of all times E.Parsanna. His patriotic exposure in the field is also great and appreciable. Good luck Bhajji and INDIA!!!

You are arrogant and it is good! by Jatin on 12 Mar 2008

Harbhajan, You are arrogant and we need you now more than ever. Only you have guts to stand up and fight. You should give back in twice the proportion. One piece of advise, Don't get caught. Do it wisely like Aussies do. We can beat them in the sledging too.

Harbhajan is right by Satish on 12 Mar 2008

Keep going Harbhajan. You have aceived no other Indian ever did. India needed a leader to show the world that we can be non-violent when needed and we can be arrogant like a prick when opposition only speaks that language. Indian team needs systamatic training on how to fight back or retaliate sledging. If someone is fighting with guns you can't throw rocks at them. It is a lame arugment to say we show our aggrassion by playing better. That's a bullcr*p. Have some courage and teach our young guns how to fight. India faced slavery because of these poor attitude of not fighting back. Time has changed and India can do it. Go Harbhajan. Don't listen to these spineless jerks.

Time to stop by Tapas on 11 Mar 2008

Bhajji just shut up and start taking wickets. Enough of trying to be a hero.

Manners!! Sir by R Gill on 11 Mar 2008

Not watching cricket? Sir!!Harbhajan has been taking crucial wickets in the overs allocated to him. His captain and team mates have faith in him.Typical indian mentality- got what I needed from you and now going to abandon ship. Support should be 100% and long term.

Good Bhajji by Sambar Swamy on 11 Mar 2008

Bhajji is arrogant, of course with whom, none but Australians and English. Both are known cry baies and use power and pressure tcatics to get away. On the other hand, our people EXCEPT Gavaskar no one has the guts to fight agianst them (those days). Now it is different as we have both power and money. Bhajji has behaved well even with Pakistanis

Cricket gone ino head of harbhajan Singh by P.P. TALWAR on 11 Mar 2008

Mere words in self-support will not absolve Harbhajan Singh of his unparliamentary and abnoxous remarks against Australian cricketer, Andrew Symonds like " teri Maan di". Any Punjabi would explain the meaning of Harbhajan singh's arrogant, vulgar and rude remarks. Having become too big for his boots, Harbhajan Singh thinks that having BCCI in his pocket, he can commit any wron doing and go 'scot free'.

All power to Harbhajan by Satish on 12 Mar 2008

Any Doubt!! by SSingh on 12 Mar 2008

Maybe he said "Mainu Ki" meaning "what is it to me?"Possible! Isn't it?. Try facing thousands of booing crowds and try taking the role for the team where Harby was booed so that others were not!!

You are indeed arrogant and so are Aussie cricketers! by Joy on 11 Mar 2008

Hi Harbajan, you are arrogant and so are many Aussie cricketers. Do not try to hide after what you and Sreesanth did to Symonds in India. Be a man and face criticism, or do not give shit in the first place! You are a fighter and I admire that quality in you!
