"I don't think it's ever possible that anybody can offer you a VRS in sports," he said.
"You cannot do that to players like (Anil) Kumble, (Rahul) Dravid, (VVS) Laxman, Sachin (Tendulkar) or anyone," said the 36-year-old left-hander.
"What is important is what you get to know from the Board (BCCI) and as far as I, and some of the senior players, are concerned, we have not received any intimation from the Board on anything," he added.
Ganguly said he did not expect to be in the Indian squad for the Test series against Australia after being ignored for the Irani Trophy and added that he was not ready to wait to know his future from selectors before every series.
"To be honest, I didn't expect to be picked for this series. But once I was chosen, I started preparing. Even when I was left out of the Rest of India squad, which was a bit of a surprise for me, I was still training with the Bengal boys.
"It had become just one series at a time. There was so much pressure and scrutiny everytime you step out. So this is the right time to go. It is not a sudden or abrupt decision," Ganguly told a news channel.
"This is a very difficult and energy-consuming decision for any player," he said of his decision to quit after the Australia series.

i love you daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaada i need u as d skipper to lead india
after the retirement of ganguly ONE SPOT SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR GENUINE ALL ROUNDER-------india is playing test without any all rounder for 10 years------one all rounder can also solve the problem of genuine fifth bowler------young all rounders should be tried out one by one--they should be given exposure to international cricket IN AUSTRALIAN TEAM THERE ARE 3 ALL ROUNDERS SHANE WATSON, MICHAEL CLARKE AND ANDREW SYMONDS. in indian team one place should be reserved for all rounder[ even if not very good]
THE LOGIC WHICH IS APPLICABLE TO GANGULY IS ALSO APPLICABLE TO KUMBLE AND DRAVID--------THERE ARE 2 VERY GOOD LEG SPINNERS PIJUSH CHAWLA AND AMIT MISHRA--------THERE ARE 3 GOOD RIGHT HANDED BATSMEN READY TO REPLACE DRAVID--VIRAT KOHLI, ROHIT SHARMA AND BADRINATH.-----IN FACT IF GANGULY RETIRES HIS PLACE SHOULD GO TO A LEFT HANDER -----THE TEAM DOES NOT HAVE ANY GENUINE ALL ROUNDER FOR 10 YEARS----ONE ALL ROUNDER SHOULD BE TRIED OUT AFTER GANGULY RETIRES ------SINCE DHONI IS A VERY GOOD BATSMAN BATTING WILL NOT BE AFFECTED---INDIA SHOULD TRY TO GO WITH 5 GENUINE BOWLERS IN TEST MATCHES-----this will reduce the burden of remaining 4 bowlers-----in india 3 spinners should be played AND ONE AL;L ROUNDER CAN OPEN THE BOWLING WITH ANOTHER PACE BOWLER [ Pataudi formula]
SOURAV HAS LED INDIA IN 49 TESTS. HE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO LEAD IN ONE MORE TEST TO COMPLETE 50----------preferably his last test so that he can retire as captain.------dravid, ganguly and kumble should play thier last test as captain---
I feel that, though this is a sad news for some of Saurav's fans; the timing of his decision was quite remarkable. After such a marvelous performance against Pakistan during 2007-08; There was un due pressure put on him by so called pundits of Indian Cricket that, any sports person having self esteem
Dada, Good decision. Fans will give you pleasing farewell.People will shout at Sachin to hang his bat.
Its high time we should think of the future of sports in our country.Players like Saurav quitting on their peak is stunning.he still can play for two years for sure.Look at his physical and mental fitness. But who will stop politics in sports. What about ppl like Pawar saheb who have started dirty business in sports.Look what happenend to hockey Mr.Gill does not even know the length and weight of the stick forget full names of the palyers. In the end i would say we will loose a good palyer and captain.Saurav is brave and talented player i think he should change his mind no doubt he has taken a brave decesion but still sports need him.
Every proud Indian will identify with Ganguly - for his strong leadership and vision and who let his bat do the talking. As a captain he tolerated no nonsense from the opposition and his an eye-for-an-eye approach mellowed down the most arraogant in the game to grudging silence.
Dada, you have done a fanstastic job for the country. You can leave with you head held high in esteem. Yes it is a tough call for any one to make, you have shown once again that you are a brave guy. I hope the thankless publice atleast gives you a decent farewell. Which unfortunately no indian cricketer never gets, may be time for a change!!!
