The latest revamping of the three-dimensional digital viewing has cost the science park a whopping Rs 40 lakh and it is further going to boost its image. The extra expense, however, will not be passed on to the viewers, as they would continue to enjoy the screening at the earlier price.
The new technology is expected to attract 1.35 million visitors this year. The Science City, which is a unit of the National Council of Science Museums, has already started using the new technology for the screening of informative films on science using the latest digital server technology.
G S Rautela, the director of Science City, said the technology would provide high-resolution images. “The technology will help people believe what is being shown,” he added.
The science park will now hold ten screenings of the films every day. At present, two films —- The Illuminating Brain and Deep Sea Exploration —- are being shown. The science park is also in the process of screening two new films on atoms and molecules and animal world.
The four-year-old digital technology of screening 3D films uses circular polarised lenses instead of the system of linear polarised lenses.
The new technology will be projecting images with a brightness of 6000 ANSI Lumen.
Earlier the brightness was only 2000 ANSI Lumen. The new system also uses Depth-Q digital server technology for the display of stereoscopic film and video media.
The latest digital server technology is capable of displaying high-resolution flicker-free images.
By March 2008, the ‘Earth Exploration Hall’, that involves a cost of Rs 2 crore, will be inaugurated, Routela told The Indian Express.
“Since 2008 is being celebrated as the ‘International year of Planet Earth’, we will start the exploration hall by March where issues like global warming will be explained,” he added.
