New Delhi, February 9 Stopping for a leak on the roadside in Ghazipur in East Delhi proved disastrous for a jeweller. Three robbers beat him up before robbing him of jewellery and stealing his car, which had Rs 40,000 in cash and a cheque worth Rs 40 lakh inside. The incident occured around 9.30 pm on Friday.

According to police officers, Shashi Kant Mishra (41) was returning to his Ghaziabad home in his Innova after shutting his Laxmi Nagar jewellery shop. He was attacked after he stopped to take a leak at the Telco T-point.“He told us the robbers checked his pockets at gunpoint and took the Rs 400 he had. Mad at finding such little money, they beat him up,” the police said.

Mishra told the police that the robbers told him, “You have such a big car and yet you carry such a small amount of money” before beating him up. They then took his diamond ring, a gold chain and his wristwatch before fleeing in his Innova. Mishra told the police he had kept the cash and the cheque at the back in his car.

Mishra then called the PCR, who reached the spot and rushed him to a nearby hospital. “He was later transferred to the ICU at Yashodha Hospital in Ghaziabad. His condition is now stable and he has been shifted to the ward,” a senior police officer said.

The police said Mishra is a Kanpur-based businessman and had recently come to Delhi and set up shop in Laxmi Nagar. A case of robbery has been registered against unknown assailants, officers said.
