Cops given tips on drug de-addiction
MOHALI: The officers and jawans of the Commando Battalion-IV of the Punjab Police, attached with the security of Punjab Chief Minister, were given tips on drug de-addiction and anti-stress at a special camp held at Commando Complex in Phase XI here on Wednesday.
Psychiatric expert from Civil Hospital Dr Harmeet Kaur educated over 200 policemen on the ill-effects of drug addiction and stress and how to remain away from them for better health and physique.
Yoga expert Mohinder Pal gave a detailed presentation on various yoga exercises to remain de-stress and active in the daily life.
Revoke Babla’s exemption plea: SAD-BJP
Chandigarh: A delegation of BJP-SAD councillors and office-bearers of the BJP presented a memorandum seeking to revoke the exemption given to Congress councillor Devinder Singh Babla. The exemption had been given to Babla in the House Meet held on Monday. Led by acting president of the party Purshotam Mahajan and general secretary Sanjay Tandon, the delegation went to Punjab Raj Bhawan today. The delegation also stated that when BJP-SAD councillors requested the Mayor for having discussion on the agenda item relating to the issue, they were not permitted to do so. Despite a strong opposition by the BJP-SAD councillors, Congress Mayor passed the resolution.
Day 10: Defence arguments continue in Ruchika molestation case
CHANDIGARH: The arguments by the defence counsel in the Ruchika molestation case trail involving former Haryana’s Director General of Police as the accused, continued on the tenth consecutive day in the Special CBI Court of magistrate JS Sidhu. The in-camera proceedings lasted for more than an hour today.
The defence counsel presented the arguments while trying to defend former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore who was accused of molesting the 14-year-old girl in the office of Haryana Lawn Tennis Association, in Sector 6, Panchkula, on August 12, 1990. The girl had later committed suicide. Rathore, in his defence has reportedly said that he never went to Ruchika’s house a day prior to the incident as alleged. While denying the charges against him, Rathore said Ruchika and her friend were called to his office to be questioned about playing on a wet court and not to discuss Ruchika’s tennis coaching. While Reemu tendered an apology, Ruchika drew some caricatures, which infuriated Rathore, according to him. Reemu was then told to bring the coach. With the case dating back to 1990, the chargesheet was filed in 1999.
Woman accuses estranged NRI husband of uploading obscene photos on internet
CHANDIGARH: AN NRI man has been booked under different sections of the Information Technology Act for hacking into his estranged wife’s e-mail account, creating her fake profiles and uploading obscene content. The woman, a resident of Sector 41, had complained to the Senior Superintendent of Police on October 6 about the matter after she allegedly discovered that certain mails were sent to her relatives from her account showing her in bad light. The Chandigarh Police’s cyber crime investigation cell has registered a case against one Rohit Chandok, who is currently living in Florida, USA. The woman also alleged that her estranged husband had created two fake profiles on Orkut and uploaded her obscene photos. Rohit works as a database administrator in a multi-national company. The woman said she got married in July 2007 and moved to the US with her husband. She, however, came back to India in 2008 after a strained relationship and has since not been in touch with him, according to the complaint.
Following investigation into the complaint, the cyber crime investigation cell registered a case on Wednesday, charging the accused with e-mail hacking, and uploading obscene content under Sections 66 A, 67 A and 68 A of Information Technology Act.
Man found dead near railway track, family members block traffic
CHANDIGARH: Following the death of a resident of Faidan village under mysterious circumstances along the railway track near Mohali railway station on Thursday morning, relatives of the deceased took to the streets in protest. Deceased Shekhar Pandey’s family alleged that the body kept lying at the spot till evening as there was some confusion over jurisdiction and neither the Government Railway Police from Haryana nor Punjab took the responsibility of recovering the body. Ramesh Pandey, brother of the deceased, alleged that officials kept passing the buck without caring to shift the body to the hospital for postmortem. Ramesh said Shekhar, a readymade clothes vendor, left home in the morning and they received a call from one of his cellphones but they could not hear anything. The phone was immediately switched off after that. Later, they received another call from his second number and this time it was the police informing them that Shekhar’s body was lying along the tracks. Relatives staged a protest and blocked traffic on the road leading to Mohali railway station near Jagatpura. The Mohali government railway police then swung into action and took the body to the civil hospital. A postmortem will be conducted on Friday to ascertain the exact cause of death.
