New Delhi Virtually kickstarting the Congress campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, party president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday the BJP accusing it of indulging in polarisation and divisive politics.

"Grave damage has been done to our secular polity, society and economy by the BJP-led NDA. Theirs is a voice of polarisation, of division, of hatred. Ours is a voice of social justice, communal harmony and inclusiveness," she said.

Gandhi, who was addressing a meeting of her party's district and block level office-bearers, said BJP-NDA spoke for the "privileged few" while the Congress was the "voice of the multitude and the aam aadmi".

Noting that safeguarding of the secular polity, unprecedented economic growth and fight against terror were among the Congress-led government's achievements, Gandhi said though the country was reeling under the impact of a global recession, the government had done a commendable job.

"The world is going through aneconomic recession. There is no room for complacency but India is demonstrating its resilience," she said.

Describing terror as one of the major challenges, Gandhi said, "The recent barbaric terror attacks in Mumbai and Assam remind us of the pain we are going through. But we have no doubt that we will overcome this difficult situation."

She also warned the neighbouring countries not to take India's "patience" to be a sign of weakness and said those abetting terrorism will be given a befitting reply.

Gandhi said the Congress did not believe in making political capital out of the fight against terror like the opposition.

"The opposition created hurdles in Parliamentary functioning and also caused undue delay in passing of the anti-terror law," she said.

The Congress president accused the BJP-led NDA of playing communal politics. "Those who gather people on religious lines, mislead people in the name of Ram, cannot become an effective force against terror," she said.

Gandhi lauded the Congress as being the only party which believed that communal harmony and economic development were two sides of the same coin.

She also said the Congress had young leaders who had benefitted from the political background of their families.

However, the number of those who have risen because of their own efforts was much higher, she said.

Caste / Communal division always Congress exercised. by ANIYAN on 08 Feb 2009

There had been a vertical split of society on the basis of caste and communal reservation during all the years of congress rule. There always occur an allocation of seats on the basis of caste and communal basis. How can you claim otherwise and criticise someone else ?

Let the Ticket not go to Sweepers / Tea Boys and the like in the AICC office. by MOHD RASUL SALAHUDDIN on 08 Feb 2009

Good speech Madam ! But please ensure that just as you send CM, Governor and PCC presidents to the States, do not send the people who are sweeping the AICC office, serving tea and coffee in office or dak runners, with congress ticket to run for Parliament election. A lot of people, who devoted their entire youthfulness for the Students Union, Youth Congress and Congress are waiting.

Sonia's accusation of BJP by ramesh k on 08 Feb 2009

Sonia maino, what right you have to accuse BJP when you go all out to please the minority community to ensure their votebank? Your mulla Arjun Singh just recently declared that Madarassa education is equivalent to higher secondary in the country! When children reach higher secondary, they will have gone through physics, chemistry, biology, maths, commerce and several other subjects, and your govt. has given the order that all these will be just equivalent to the madarassa education where only regiligous scripts are taught! Isnt it 'divissive politics? Or do you know what is divisive politics in the first place? Because your background is working in the pub serving liquor to Italians! What you know what is communal harmony, what is nationalism? You better get out of our country and go back to Italy which is your place. By now you have robbed enough money to live anywhere on earth.

Throw the congress in dustbin of history by Sumanyu on 08 Feb 2009

Sonia should stop harping on the same tune. Its has lost its edge long time back. It is the congress which is the most communal. It pampers minorities to get their votes only to ditch them when in power. Sonia has no moral right to talk about terror. The record of her UPA is worst. Attacks everywhere in India killing thousands. Its as if the country can't find any other worthwhile name apart from the Gandhi family. Its rotton politics at her best. People should throw away Sonia's puppet government at the hustings later this year.

In poll mode: Sonia................ by bharat on 08 Feb 2009

ISck of this BJP bashing. It was congress which continiously ignored BJP and NDA when In power and failed to make an inclusive society. If you continue to ignore 40% votes of BJP and the people who voted them how can you claim as inclusive party. In fact congress is the biggest divisive force in India by siding with muslim fundamentalists, terrorists like Afzal, being sympathatic to terrorists and equating them with muslim vote banks. At least BJP talks of only nationalism without any outside influence. Congress first submitted to the communists who are know to have ideology which is outside the country. This congress of Italian mafia is not the original Congress.

Congress divides Hindus and Hindustan by Shallabh on 08 Feb 2009

Congress policy:1. Divide Hindus on castes.2. Consolidate Muslims: Give temple money for Madrasas3. Term Hindu unity as communal and muslim as secular.4. Rehabilitate 2 crore Muslim Bangladeshis in India and it is called secularism.5. Tell hindus Ram never existed and they are foolish enough to say 'Yes' and vote Congress back.6. Divide India on regional lines and do nothing. Golden quadilateral is an example.7. Have 20 bomb blasts a year but no action because people in India forget because they are secular.8. Buy media to only show things against sangh Parivar or Hindu babs. Never show fundamentalist muslims, maulvis and never show RSS, VHP Bajrang Dal consolidating hindus, removing castes, helping national calamities, feeding poor, giving boats to fishermen.9. Give a green signal to Chrishtian concersion10. Most important, do not do anything in development, instead say bad things take a rhetoric with media and leftists against people like Narendra modi and chauhan.

Sonia's poll mode by Siva Kumar on 08 Feb 2009

Pak is testing congress patience for the last 50 years of congress rule. And you will never loose patience becouse you want to pacify the minority community to gain their vote. The opposition was crying for strong anti terrorism law, after you scrapped which was in force. You are bluffing. As far as young people are concerned you have only your son in mind,no other names have ever come up in any congress platform. You are lucky to have a coetrie whose mind set is in slavery from which they can't escape ,and they fool the people and keep you in power.

If Sonia does some honest soul searching, she will find that Congress remained in power only by dividing the society

UPA CONTRIBUTION - TERRORISM AND REGLIOUS CONVERSIONS. by MOHD RASUL SALAHUDDIN on 08 Feb 2009

THERE HAS BEEN STEADY GROWTH OF TERRORISM IN THE COUNTRY, SINCE THE UPA, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF CONGRESS CAME TO POWER. THERE WERE MORE COMPROMISES THAN BROAD DECISIONS TO DEFEND THE MOTHERLAND. EVERY MAJOR STATES, GROWING STEADILY IN ITS ECONOMIC MARCH WERE BOMBED BY THE TERRORISTS THUS GROWN UNDER THIS REGIME. THE CONGRESS WHICH HAS A PARTNERSHIP OF MUSLIM LEAGUE IN KERALA AND IN CENTER, WITH ITS LONE MP, E.AHMED BESTOWED WITH A MOST COVETED MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS, HAS MADE EVERY EFFORT TO GROW TERROR IN THIS SOUTHERN STATE AND NOW A BREEDING CENTER FOR TERRORISM AROUND INDIA. THE CONGRESS CLOSES ITS EYES IN THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION, SO IS THE CPM WHICH RULES THE STATE. THE REPURCUSSIONS ARE TOO SERIOUS THAN FELT NOW. THE PEOPLE OF KERALA SHOULD UNITE UNDER THE BANNER OF BJP TO COUNTER THIS GROWTH OF TERRORISM FROM KERALA. THE STATE IF ALSO A BREEDING CENTER FOR RELIGIOUS CONVERTIONISTS.
