"We have, like siblings, more in common than we appreciate and our differences, though vast, are not impossible to overcome. They are barely visible," wrote 25-year-old Fatima, who was in Jaipur recently to attend a literary event.
"Our countries, India and Pakistan, are sister nations.
We are one half of each genetically and physically," she said.
"There is more fortune in peace between our two countries than war will ever bring us. We must build bridges between our people, not bombs.
"Siblings, though stymied by rivalries at times and shadowed by each other's ghosts, are still siblings. They have to protect each other in order to survive. We can't help our pasts, but we have an amazing opportunity to push for radical change in our futures," she wrote in her weekly column in The News.
Fatima said she had gone to India "to speak on Pakistan and to be a conduit for a message other than what we see reported on our country every day hate".
"I wanted to speak for what a majority of Pakistanis truly want, inside our borders and outside -- peace."
On her first visit to India two years ago with her best friend Sabeen, Fatima says she stared in horror when her friend revealed that she was from Pakistan to a shopkeeper.

It is a fact that India and Pakistan are from the same family separated only to live peacefullly and let us appreciate that both are doing well economically and have a bright future and let us forget the border issue which even if solved may lead us nowhere. Ms.Bhutto's wish is the desire of millions of Indians and Pakistanis and let us pray to god for peace and prosperity for all of us.
We all know that.If told you so you wouldnot believe it.Any way if she has a power and authority over her people, please tell them. They are the one who are haters of India and what ever India stands for.Over coming all the hate India is close to being a super power(against paki oppose)They wants to be kid little sister and have all the benefit.Yes We know well known saying,WHOS WAS LOST AND COME HOME,THEN WE SHOULNOT CALL HIM LOST."BHULA HUA SHAM KO GHAR AYA TO USE BHULA NAHI KHATE"Please take the message home.We all know this from the start. Its you noeed to understand that.Jai Hind.
it will be a national tragedy to trust pakistan.anexxing kashmir is the begining of their quest.the end is muslimising the entire south east asia.this is the manifested goal of alqueda supremo whom pakistan so lovingly supports and to some extant created and sustains.the chickens have come home to roost.the recent militants attacks in pakistan are their own creation.for the first time, pakistanis will exeprience what indians have, for the last 60years.this is possibly the best outcome from alqueda/pakistan relationship,ie,no matter how long it takes, you will pay for your actions.i whole heartedly agree with mr jolly.i hope the present congress govt takes into acct the safety and security of the nation and not apease certain section of the population on whom they depend so much.
Fatima has the intelligence and stature to be the next PM of Pakistan. She is really awesome.
Pakistan will not rest until they get whole of Kashmir. Now that their very existence is in question, all these 'sisterly' affection with India oozes out. Otherwise, Indians are 'dogs' and a 1000 years of war would be waged by the Bhuttos! (remember her grandfather Z.A. Bhutto and Auntie Bezazir and what they thought of India and Indians?. Let Indians and Pakistanis have their own countries and live without bothering each other. If that is achieved, then we can talk about 'Family relations'.
Excellent article. I encourage your readers to read my just-released monograph, " A Small Step for Man: Zero to Infinity with Six Sigma to learn why her comments make fundamental sense. The monograph also provides a road map for Pakistan to follow in developing economically. I am already working in India to pursue these ideas.
if we are really sisters then the younger sister is an insanely evil biatch
Fatima has wisdom beyond her young age. This land was not divided 2000 years ago, it did not have any religious splits and the valley did not echo with blood curdling cries of siblings for each others blood. This is a very recent phenomena and more due to political instigation of disenfranchised and narrow minded individuals. While it was understandable that this ploy worked when the Britishers adopted it, in the present times, this is foolish and self defeating. Look at Germany - it was split and at bayonets for about 40 years during the cold war, and now the brothers are united. There were troubles, partly due to economic and social disparities but slowly the differences have mended. It will be a saner approach if the youth of the two countries abandon the hostilities of the older generation, and begin to trust each other, watch each others back, and build a strong neighborhood in the region. They are the only ones who can do it. No one else will do it. For most others, it pays to see the animosity continue.I am happy and hopeful that young Fatima and her generation from Pakistan is willing to take such positive steps. We should meet her more than half way through.Regards
How easy to forget that Mahabharat was indeed a blood curdling sibling fight! How short is our memory!!
ARE WE SIBLINGS?? WE DID NOT KNOW THAT, BUT WHO IS FATIMA??? By the way, please do not try of talking of friendship, India is better off without Pakistan
We are siblings no matter how you look at it. Our job as a big brother is to help our brothers who are facing calamity. It is big brother's job to be mare patient. Remember, 99.99% of people are like you and me strugling to earn bread and butter
