Bangalore, November 23: India clinched the seven-match cricket series against England, edging out the visitors by 19 runs via Duckworth-Lewis method in the rain-curtailed fourth ODI.

Put into bat in what was India's 700th ODI, the hosts witnessed two lengthy rain interruptions before reaching 166 for four wickets in 22 overs, a score they owe mainly to Virender Sehwag (69), Gautam Gambhir (40) and Yuvraj Singh (25 not out).

Needing 198 for a win under the Duckworth-Lewis method to stay afloat in the seven-match series, England managed 178 for eight as India took an unassailable 4-0 lead in the series.

For them, Owais Shah (72) and Andrew Flintoff (41) tried their best but it was not enough in the end.

With Ishant Sharma pulling off a stunner to send back in-form Ravi Bopara (1) off Munaf Patel, England hardly got the ideal start and crisis compounded when Ian Bell (12) too returned cheaply after Harbhajan Singh had upset his timberworks.

Much was expected of Kevin Pietersen (5) but Ishant cut short the England captain's stay by pegging back his stumps to reduce the visitors to 52 for three.

Owais Shah got a life when Gautam Gambhir grassed a sitter off Harbhajan and the England batsman went on to add 82 runs with Flintoff in eight overs but just when the match looked like slipping through India's fingers, Zaheer Khan removed Shah for a crucial breakthrough. Shah had hammered 72 runs off just 48 balls with nine fours and three sixes in it.

And once Flintoff fell to Ishant in the next over, India had pretty much sealed the fate of the match.

Sachin a true legend by jaideep on 25 Nov 2008

I am not sure why some of you are being so rude towards Tendulkar? He does play well most of the times that does n't give you the right to be abusive towards him. As far as his age is concerned, wisdom comes with experience and age and it good to have Sachin as a senior player Also about he being aloof in team celebrations, that's how tendulkar is He is more on the quiet and sober side . Can you stop hurling abuses at him ??

Tendulkar Fiasco by Edie on 24 Nov 2008

I saw tendulkar on the filed. He has absolutely wasted a good chance for Rohit sharma. Tendulkar was pathetic and out of sort and he was just pretending to be one of the team memebre. Even during celeberations he was out of sort. He should retire now and let a winning team win. because of him Gambhir has to go No.3 and rohit has to sit out. Result he made 11 runs and spoiled initial onslaught on the bowlers. It is good that Gambhir came soon and scoring resumed. Fire Tendulkar from the team.

Contribute or get out of the way Tendulkar the shameless. by Ayyappa on 23 Nov 2008

It is a wate to keep the old man in the one dayer team. He is occupying the place at the cost of another valuable contributing and deserving youngster. The old man who cannot contribute get out. What a shameless asshole!!! It is very frustrating when there are desrving youngsters waiting for the chance you come and make a mockery of the game.

Shameless by Dinesh on 24 Nov 2008
