“We will not like influx of refugees to Tamil Nadu because of a situation over which we have no control. We are prevailing upon them (Sri Lanka), it is your responsibility to provide food, shelter and medicine to your displaced people,” External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in the Rajya Sabha.
He was replying to clarifications sought on his suo motu statement made in the House on Wednesday on the situation in Sri Lanka.
When senior Indian officials visited Sri Lanka recently, they told their counterparts that New Delhi would like to have an overall assessment before meeting their requirements. This was because “we would not like international players in our backyard”, Mukherjee said.
He was specifically responding to the concerns of Leader of the Opposition Jaswant Singh over China, Sri Lanka and Pakistan forging strategic relations in the region.

Bangladeshis are allowed to settle anywhere in this country. Some of the politicians are even suggested to make them Indians legally. So why can't we have Tamils from Srilanka? Why can't Pranab Mukerjee make a similar statement about refugees from Bangladesh. Is it because he considers Bangladeshis as his lost brethen?
How about refugees or rather vote banks from bangladesh and paksitan? congress, commies and upa will roll out red carpet for them. Any refugees be it from bangladesh, pak or lanka should be allowed and those who are here should be kicked out to save India.
When lacs of infiltraters can come and settle from Bangladesh or 9600 visitors from Pakistan can be allowed to over stay , lacs of Tibetans can be permanently allowed to stay here then what harm is there to let in Sri Lankan refugees. After all they are brothrens of our Tamil brothers and India after all is a big dumping ground. This is sheer hypocracy and politics and nothing else.
It is surprise to note the double standard statement, It is well known fact since 1971, millions migrated to India from Bangladesh and it is going on with out full stop. No action is taken to push back the anti –Nationals and terrorist supports, just for importing votes.The Bangladeshi have free country, what they are doing here? The Tamils migrated from India during British period. Why Tamils don’t have the right to come back? Sri Lanka pretend like a friendly county at the same time, it is helping Pakistan

Mr. Mukherjee: Try to talk some sense. IF YOU DO NOT WANT REFUGEES FROM SRI LANKA COMING TO INDIA, THEN STOP INTERFERRING IN SRI LANKA'S INTERNAL AFFAIRS. LET THEM CRUSH THIS TERRORIST OUTFIT OF LTTE (HELPED BY FOREIGN POWER) WHICH IS ENDEGERING SECURITY, UNITY AND SOVERIGNITY OF SRI LANKA. YOU AND INDIA HAS NO BUSINESS EVEN TALKING ABOUT SRI LANKA.
