London, May 20: India faces a high risk for terrorist acts and is an easy place for access to weapons of minor destruction, a global study said.

The Global Peace Index (GPI) ranked India at 107th position among 140 countries as it hinted at an improvement in the status of internal peace and relations with neighbours since 2007 when the country figured at 109th place.

The authors took 24 indicators into account, ranging from levels of violent crime to UN deployments overseas, and from political instability for risk of terrorist attacks.

On a scale of five for 'potential for terrorist acts', India was given a worrying score of four.

Also, on the parameter of 'ease of access to weapons of minor destruction', India's score was four out of five, according to EIU analysts.

While the survey gave an encouraging 9.6 out of 10 to India for its electoral process, which provided many options and freedom to voters to exercise their franchise, it ranked the country at a disappointing 3.5 out of 10 in terms of the level of corruption prevalent.

Iceland emerged as the world's most peaceful country but Iraq was the most violent, the annual study said.

"The world appears to be a marginally more peaceful place this year. This is encouraging, but it takes small steps by individual countries for the world to make greater strides on the road to peace," GPI founder Steve Killelea said.

The index was launched in 2007, and in 2008 lists 140 countries in terms of a variety of factors reflecting both domestic peacefulness and their international relations.

DECLARE INDIA A TERRORIST COUNTRY by Stephen on 22 May 2008

The combined forces of Jihadis and Maoists from India can unleash an unimaginable degree of terror to the whole world as India is now under the direct control of Saudi Arabia and Imperialist China. Freedom loving people all around the world should apprise their respective govt.s and spread the awarness among the people of the impending danger facing the world. India is the Sino-saudi proxy for war against Democracy.

who wants peace?? by wotsinaname on 22 May 2008

Global study has not proven anything different than what a common inidian knows for decades.. we cried to the world abt pakistani and other assorted jihadis attacking india no one listened instead they fed pakistan with aid and support. the world leaders opened their eyes when 9/11 happened. still today indians are slaughtered in any streets of any given cities by these islamists with impunity and our beloved, elected government is holding peace talk with the neighbouring country which very existence depends on breaking or bleeding india.

terrorism in india by kandiyil on 21 May 2008

The present central and state governements has done so many things to appease the muslim minority with the thought of reducing terroris. But that is not going to work and doing more harm to majority the patriotic people. You need to control terrorism with education and force. All madrassas are breeding grounds for terrorism and some of the mosques.Unless and until you take action terrorism will increase. They have a hidden ajenda to attack infidel whenever possible.

not a wonder by Rohit on 21 May 2008

With incompetent traitors like Patil for Home Minister and a long history of demonstrated weakness, inaction after attacks, investigations not leading anywhere,no political will and strong leadership, this is no wonder. May be this is the politician's way of automatic population control, they are just not telling us. Hope it doesn't take a 9/11 kinda event to shake the inept Government(s) - centre and states into retrospective action. Shame is no politician dies in such events anyways.

Rohit, you are representing all Indian patriots.

save india from these parasites..cong and commies by wotsinaname on 21 May 2008

We don't want any surveys or studies and statistics to know that India is the most dangerous place for hindus. Thanks to the outdated pseudo-secular gandhism and enemy backed commies who is ruling this once holy land which now turned into a decaying hell infested with jihadis.

India faces high risk of terroist acts by Subbiah Shanmugam on 21 May 2008

I challenge all the politicians and especially our PM, Parliament and the President to give me free hand and authority for 5 yrs to deal with the terroists. I am 50 years old and I dont need any salary or money, I'll do service for free, like Sam Pitroda took a token one Rupee when he started the dotcom revolution, when Rajiv appointed him. There has to be policy changes, identification of enemy and perperators to be dealt with ruthlessly in Military type special tribunals. NO APPEASEMENT WHATEVER TO ANYONE. ANY TAKERS ??? !!!.

India should have ranked last! by Sunil Sharma on 21 May 2008

In India today more people (primarily Hindus) die of terrorist related acts than anywhere else in the world except Iraq which is a special case. Indians (Hindus) today are threatened the most by Islamic terrorism - thanks to the UPA and the "Islamic" Congress. It is Congress and Left which follow Islamic Communal Agenda and both these political institutions shoud shift their bases to Saudi Arabia and China respectively which are there natural allies.

India faces high risk of terrorist acts by wachok on 21 May 2008

It certainly faces a lot of terroist threat, what would you expect, we are well short of 43000 odd Army Officers cause no one wants to join an insititution which has guns but cannot use them as they get caught up in politics. The pays are bad so even if they do join they get more money from external forces so its like hand in glove not always but many a times. I think what India needs is military rule atleast for the next 5 years to look after internal/external issues to do with security and solidarity. While the monkeys oops politicians can look after other portfolios..Lets see if the threat to India comes down after we take this approach, nothing wrong on trying this as we have nothing to lose and everything to gain.. It cant go any worst than the current state we have in india and the threat levels..

India faces high risk of terrorist acts from Congress party. by Satya on 21 May 2008

India faces high risk of terrorist acts from Congress party. Congress party in India is the main facilitator and supporter of terrorism. Do you know, it was Congress who trained Prabhakaran LTTE? Congress promotes terror groups and use them as agents for getting votes. AP govt used naxalites in last assembly elctions, ULFA was used by Asom Congress. Congress repealed anti-terror law POTA to facilitate Jihadi terrorists to kill us. That is why Congress don't want any strong anti-terror law. Why? Congress playing terror vote-banks. Its time, we all patriots wake up and save the nation from crutches of Congress-UPA-Left.

Terrorism by Babuchandra on 20 May 2008

Even with out any study ordinary Indians can feel that the country has become a safe heaven for terrorists. With a weak government at centre and vote bank politics what else you can expect? Congress should abandon its appeasement policy, if any tangible changes should take place.
