India on Monday handed over to Pakistan evidence about involvement of elements based in that country in the Mumbai terror attacks and asked Islamabad to implement its commitments.
Stepping up the diplomatic offensive, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said he has written to his counterparts around the world and that countries are being briefed separately giving details of the Mumbai attacks and its links in Pakistan.
"We have today handed over to Pakistan evidence of the links with elements in Pakistan of the terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008," Mukherjee told reporters in New Delhi.
Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik was summoned by Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon to hand over the material.
Describing the Mumbai attacks as "unpardonable crime", Mukherjee asked Pakistan to implement the bilateral commitments it has made at the highest levels to India and practice its international obligations.
The evidence includes confession of Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone Pakistani terrorist held during Mumbai terror strikes, records of GPS and satellite phones used by the attackers and transcript of conversations between the attackers and their handlers in Pakistan.
It also includes details about weapons and other articles recovered.
"This material is linked to elements in Pakistan. It is our expectation that the government of Pakistan will promptly undertake further investigations in Pakistan and share the results with us so as to bring the perpetrators to justice," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
"We are also briefing all our friendly countries," the External Affairs Minister said.
"I have written to my counterparts around the world giving them details of the events in Mumbai and describing in some detail the progress that we have made in our investigations and the evidence that we have collected," Mukherjee said.
The External Affairs Ministry will also be briefing all heads of missions based in Delhi by Tuesday. Indian ambassadors and high commissioners will be doing the same in their host countries, he said.
"It is my hope that the world will unite to achieve the goal of eliminating the threat of such terrorism," Mukherjee said.
India hoped that Pakistan will implement its "bilateral, multilateral and international obligations to prevent terrorism in any manner from territory under its control".

India will continue to give evidences of Pakistany complicity in the terror attacks and Pakistan will continue to reject them. The important question is whether India is going to do anything to destroy the terror camps in the Pakistan territory. Now that the international sentiments are in India's favour, at least superficially, it is time for India to take some decisive action instead of submitting evidences and wait for Pakistan to reject them to prepare fresh reports for submission. It is foolish to expect any other country in this world to fight a proxy war for India. India has to fight its wars against terrorism ourselves.

what we are going to do with those terrorist even if they are handed over to us ? . keep pushing the final justice for political milage ? giving them the heroic aura by giving media interviews ? Callling them mislead youths and get votebank advantage ? Quite right!!It may be better that the culprits remain in Pakistan where under the pressure of international community they may even be prosecuted successfully.In India, with the election season approaching, they may end up getting padma vibhushan or something

India must not indulge in such pressure tactics against brother muslims who are a secular and progressive lot. By attacking a secular community, India is going on the path of unsecularism. It is also alienating the muslim brothers of Pakistan in India who is the largest vote bank, and the great religious leaders of Muslim in India are related by common ideals of pan islamic secular umma with muslims of the world, especially Pakistan. They are the key to our successful relationship with Middle East, on whom India has always depended for goodwill. Instead of picking up fight with our brother secular Muslims, they should build CBM. There are bleak chances if the terrorist nation-Pakistan accepts the Evidence as authentic. Earlier evidences of different terrorist activities were given to Pakistan but all in vain. Nothing happened to the terrorists staying under shelter of Pak government. India should act hard and capture the entire accupied Kashmir as the ISREAL is teaching lesson to such type of JEHADIES.

Dear Rohit....i am not disputing anything what you said. My only contention was that the Indian Government never claimed that it had submitted the entire evidence to the Pakistan Government. I do not mean to absolve the role played by the vested interests in any way whatsoever.

Our leaders are best in making statements and they have done it, nobody will come and fight for us or resolve our problems. Now there is no point attacking pak since element of surprise is lost. We must now make it a national policy to bleed pak till the time they behave, this bleeding could be through hitting their economic interest, keeping their defence forces on toes by agressive posture on the border, sky and sea, stop indus water to them, penetration of their int agencies and tit for tat policy in the field of terrorism i.e. a low cost war etc. Stop thought of better relations with them in future and without any pause launch military strike if we have any mumbi repeat.
