New Delhi Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said India reserved the right to take military action if its territory was under threat.

"I am neither making any comment on military options. What I am saying is every sovereign country has its right to protect its territorial integrity and take appropriate action as and when it feels necessary," Mukherjee told a TV channel.

Pranab said that it would be difficult to carry on in peace process with Pakistan started in 2004 unless Islamabad took action after the deadly attacks on Mumbai.

"We have no intention of not carrying out the peace process," Pranab Mukherjee said.

"If these incidents are not adequately addressed by the other side, it becomes difficult to carry out business as usual and that includes the peace process."

War is inevitable by Rams on 05 Dec 2008

India should prepare itself and ensure its armed forces are prepared for all eventualities of any kind.Secondly, People should be educated to vote for an educated team of politicians who will serve and protect the people. Why do we indians wait for a specific signal in everything and why do our politicians refuse to read the signals from Pak, who are just biding time to take a bite, time and again.Chennai

Pranab's Remark on India's Rights. by SANJIB KUMAR DASH, ADVOCATE on 04 Dec 2008

It is hightime for UPA to show some productivity on security issues and not to allow it's constituent politicians to flash false hoods through press speaches. The fruitful instant actions in retaliation to the terror attacks on this soil will certainly be accounted for by the citizens in the forthcomming Gen Elections. The time is ripe now to win the hearts of all the community people both majority and minority, who have equally suffered in Mumbai and elsewhere inside the country.

Terrorists want war, civilised people do'nt. by DHARAMNAL on 02 Dec 2008

War mongers commenting on this section either need a brain or schooling, because if India states it is going to war, then Pakistan is bound to withdraw its forces from the Afghanistani front, and that will be a disaster against the war on terror. The idea of the terrorists is, that we should go to war, because it will help their cause by spilitting people, some will take the Hindu side and some will take the Muslim side, and by useing religion they would suceed. On the contrary India, Pakistan, China, America, Russia, European Union etc. should join hands to crush terrorism in a combined effort. If we leave it to the gossip mongers, who are making pro war statements, then we Indian will be daily fighting against each and every country whom we do not like.

Coward Leaders of India VS Terrorist Pakistan by raju on 02 Dec 2008

Indian will never use military power against Pakistan as no political leader UPA or NDA has that guts to stand against Pakistan! While that Indian leaders are having tons of security people arround them, they have left the common man to die on the streets. It is now for the people of India to put a side these bunch of cowards and bring in new blood with guts.

Right thing to do by Kannan on 02 Dec 2008

Well guys thanks for making this clear. We all know that pak cannot control all the terror groups in pak. India now has to boost the border security (Air/Land/Sea). License everything and shoot anything which dont. Dont catch them alive. Just waste of time. If someone doesn't obey the law then he puts himself in trouble. Need to play hard ball now.

The first step as an Indian is to pull this govrment down. Vote any other party doesn't matter. But this should be the good lesson to any future gov. that Indians don't tolerate this kind of cowerdness by any gov. in future

Useless Government by Prashant on 02 Dec 2008

What you can expect from the government without back bone. Forget attacking Pakistan they will not remove the illegally staying Bangladeshi and Pakistani naionals from India. After all its their vote bank

What next by ASP Nayak on 02 Dec 2008

After three days Ext.affairs minister says no military action. What is our Gov. next step. I think just like during other attacks our government will do nothing. At least these people are better than BJP who pushed our army to the border and did nothing further. Only political parties gained from this attack because oppostion will use this as election agenda and congress will rake up kandhakar episode or parliament attack again. After two years the stage and the drama will be the same but there may be one change the actors will change their roles.

Take 500Billion dollars loan from US, EU and starts war, or 1billion people are sitting ducks by Sarath on 02 Dec 2008

Take 500 Billion long term loan, F-16, 17, Stealth from US, EU, UK and start war against Pak, clean up this mess. But also take from US, UK and EU about after war they've to give some business deals to restore their economy, and at the same time stop US, EU to deal with China, because China is doing all these sinister cunning foul agendas with help of Pak and its jihadi elements. Otherwise already india lost 50000crore rupees of losses only for Mumbai terror activities. Howmuch they want to loose? Howmany days they want to keep sitting like a duck or making 1billion people like a sitting ducks, but they can come from all corners, pak, and bangladesh, eastern

A lot more to spare out of one billion. by john jacobs on 02 Dec 2008

The moment the Pak Govt declared that it would shift its army from the West to the southern border with India, the govt of India was transfixed in fear as expected. No sooner than the bravado rose immediately after the carnage it had vanished .Pranab Mukherjee's no war declaration is simply a sequel to it.

China is behind all these Pak's terrorist activties by sarath on 02 Dec 2008

Our indian gov. still failed to learn the lesson, i think if Pak is blackmailing, india can't sit and keep looking at the options. Everybody knows that entire all these Pak terrorist activities and its confidence on india can't do any thing, for all of these actions China is behind and backing Pakistan at all evil things. I don't know why India and World media not focusing on Chinese cunning hidden agendas against India. I dont know why US, UK, EU, France not stopping trade to China to teach lesson. Chinese agenda is more dangerous compared to Jihadi's, atleast they're hidden but agenda is against india, but China has a some sinister sick policy against India to not to compete with them, and they dont want india to grow with chinese level. If china is not providing all ammunition, weapons, fighters, missile, nuclear technologies today Pak is not threatening or blackmailing India. China is doing very clever sick cunning indirect war with India, without putting their hand, they're

Indian armed forces made handicapped by suresh on 02 Dec 2008

It looks corrupt Indian so called leaders have put our armed forces in such helpless condition that the armed forces may be thinking "let these politician handle the situation" as these so called politicians are not letting them do their duty. Some times it looks as if Pak has bribed or blackmailed or planted their moles in the form of Indian Police official of very high rank who are working on their behalf and furthering their objective of destablising India. How come it is possible that RAW as per newsreports have informed concerned authorities about intercepts of the message being exchanged on SAT phone and no action has been taken. There must be very deep rooted conspiracy to neutralise Indian State.
