Nsg operation taj hotel mumbai

Mumbai Security forces on Saturday ended the terror siege of Mumbai killing four terrorists in Taj hotel, the last theatre of action where 22 bodies were found, after 60 hours of intense battle with the band of ultras who struck the country's financial capital killing 183 people.

"All operations are over. The NSG has formally reported that the operations are complete and now Taj, Oberoi and Nariman House are being sanitised. There are no more terrorists now in Mumbai. All have been liquidated or captured alive," M L Kumawat, Special Secretary in the Union Home Ministry, said in Delhi.

The magnitude of the attack by suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba elements, who are believed to have come by the sea route from Karachi, could be gauged from the statement of Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra R R Patil who said with the ammunition the terrorists had, they could have killed 5,000 people.

NSG Chief J K Dutt, who announced the end of ‘Operation Black Tornado’ in which his commandos took on the heavily-armed ultras, said in all they eliminated eight terrorists--four in Taj, two in Trident-Oberoi and two in Nariman House. Another terrorist was killed by the Mumbai police on Wednesday night while one was captured alive.

The elimination of the four terrorists in Taj came on Saturday morning after intense battle between the commandos, who believed there was a lone gunman holding out, and the terrorists who kept exploding grenades at periodic intervals.

The security forces rescued 250 people in Oberoi, 300 in Taj and 12 families of 60 people in Nariman House.

Dutt said five bodies were recovered alongwith those of some terrorists in Taj and there was indication that these five were killed in the initial part of the hostage crisis.

Terrorism by Yahya Khan on 29 Nov 2008

I dont understand what the objective they (terrorists) achieved by randomly killing innocent people. It is also important to note that many muslims were also killed by these so-called "Pakistani Terrorists". We Indians (Hindu-Muslim-Christians) must unite in this hour of crisis and should not allow any political mileage to politicians like Narendra Modi etc.

Mumbai Terrorists by Salil G on 29 Nov 2008

Does anyone know how many total terrorists were there? How many were killed? How many captured? And...How many escaped?? Especially the ones who were at the railway station must have escaped and blended with the rest of the popoulation. Where are they?? Are they still out there??? Do we have reasons for concerns? Let's not declare victory yet, until they ALL are accounted for. And..what about the "mother ship" and the speed boats??Any answers Anyone?? The authorities need to provide answers to these questions.......and people need to be vigilant and careful, or the situation may again happen at another major hotel in Mumbai a few days from now.....

Indian politicians are more to blame than Pak terrorists by Jay on 29 Nov 2008

If our Sardarji PM and his Italian mistress has any shame left, they need to destroy all terrorist training camps inside POK and Pak and ready for a decisive war against Pak. It’s useless to talk “peace” with mad dogs. We must learn to speak the language these terrorists understand and that is the language of force. USA and West may make movies and talk great things about Gandhi but when they deal with Bin Laden, Al-quida or terrorism they use brute force first. Our political leadership not only destroyed the country but irreversibly damaged whatever self-respect and dignity we had so far.

great work Commandos! by Ajay Date on 29 Nov 2008

Our Commondos did fantastic work. The biggest challenge was risk of collateral damage. Our police, though ill equipped were lead by the senior officers. They may be ill equipped but showed the resolve to taken on the challenges head on.It is too bad to see the politicians are using these people for thier personal work. Can we not have a white paper on how many police were deployed for VIP security visiting Mumbai? The PM visited Mumbai 2 days ago..with 40 cars in his escort!!!

Anti Terror Mechanism by Viswambharan P.K. on 29 Nov 2008

We generally have a tendency to indulge in blame game instead of seriously considering measures to have adequate system in place to counter terror attacks be it from within or engineered from outside. We do have the resources to do it. But the political will is not visible. The hotels attacked in Bombay were all symbols of India's rising economic power and such properties needed to be protected. We also need to have separate law and order set up for each Metros and all the upcoming cities besides strengtheing coastal security where the personnel should be provided with most modern equipment and resources to have round the clock check on such activities. As for political parties, there were some unnecessary critisisms on the Melagoan probe and one Sanyasini politician even offered ticket to the fraud Pragya Singh to contest elections. See, one of the most efficient Police officer, the ATS chief got killed in the recent. Now what these people has got to say on this?

Terrorist attack at Taj by Ram P Gianani on 29 Nov 2008

With great difficulty and after fighting for almost 62 hours the operation was finally successful and all the terrorist either died or arrested. However, what is more important to note that they were almost knowing everything in the hotel and must have either worked or stayed in the hotel to know the complete information about hotel. The security agencies/management have completely ignored this resulting into a situation like they were playing in their home town. Our country is largest exporter of software and there afer softwares available which are useful for monitoring the situations outside. Proper security/software must be installed at all the entrances of hotels to enable them to control and over come situations like this. Secondly even managements must be careful in ascertaining who is doing what activity to enable to work proactively.

Police loosing teeth in ruling parties changing by Sarath on 29 Nov 2008

Bombay police once upon a time good, but the later subsequent governments changed them lot. that is the problem in Democracy especially only in India (prob. same for other countries except western countries). This congress, NCP gov. taught cops again corruption, biased investigations etc., so they'll mould according to gov. rules. Entire India Supreme court should rule out all police in all states are independent, no pressures from Gov. will clear lot of headaches. If you see in AP, the anti-terror pollice are efficient when Naidu's gov. but when Y.S. Reddy came to power, he shifted the efficient officer from Old city, just for the sake of minority votes. Then MIM of muslim legue helpted anti-national elements, and Hyderabad paid price, experienced two horrific bombings, one riot etc., So entire credit to current congress gov. and corrupted YSR. He also removed POTA type rule, now old city in Hyderabad becomes worser than Karachi. But congress gov. expects these muslim votes getspower

The Punjab Militancy, J

Need tough measures... by Krishnan on 29 Nov 2008

A truly commendable operation from the NSG, MARCOS releasing all hostages and ending this siege. If the political head in India has the least bit of concern for the populace they need to do some or all of the following: a) Give sweeping powers, funds to RAW b) Create a federal department to tackle interlnal terrorism (headed by the armed forces) since the Home Ministry is a total dummy c) Create a separate ATS type intelligence/police setup team in every state to manage and co-ordinate initial response to such attacks since these now have become sophisticated d) Pre-emptively and pro-actively eliminate heavy-weight terrorist targets be it anywhereIf some or all of these provisions exist currently, for God-sakes, implement them
