Home Minister P Chidambaram said India is "safer than any other country in the world" and New Delhi will try to persuade Washington to withdraw such an advisory.
He was reacting to an 'Urgent Warden Message' posted on American Embassy website which cautioned American citizens in India.
"The United States Mission in India wishes to urgently remind all US citizens resident in or travelling to India that there is a high threat from terrorism throughout India," the message said.
"As terror attacks are a serious and growing threat, US citizens are urged to always practice good security, including maintaining a heightened situational awareness and a low profile," it said.
The message said, "Americans in India should be vigilant at all times and monitor local news reports and vary their routes and times in carrying out daily activities." The advisory asked Americans to consider the level of security present when visiting public places, including religious sites, or choosing hotels, restaurants, entertainment and recreation venues.
Commenting on the advisory, Chidambaram said the MEA will be asked to speak to the US to persuade them to withdraw the advisory.
"India is a completely safe country... India is a safe place, it is safer than any other country in the world. Thousands of tourists come to India and we look forward to welcoming them," he told reporters.
Asked whether the US was trying to hyphenate India and Pakistan, Chidambaram said, "Why should we jump to conclusions. We will try to find out why this advisory was issued, if at all it was issued."

I have lived in UK, USA and France and India - and I can tell you very seriously its as safe or unsafe as every other place now. In fact some eastern european countries and parts of the US / UK / France are far more dangerous than anywhere in India. There may not be such a huge terror threat in those countries as there is in India - but there are other KINDS OF THREATS. Mr.Chidambaram is a liar and hyprociate. Everyday he keeps giving new talks at the media. I wonder how many tongue he got. If you look India is not safe for ordinary people on the street. Yes India is safe only for the idiot politician because they are under the umbrealla of Z security. Most of the Politician speically congress is thinking that people are still ignorant and think can fool India Public. There are so many well educated Indian that Even the Dynasty family who came that they are educated are actually illterate. Getting all the bogus certificate from the university which are not even recognised in the world. Mr.Chidambaram is a cunning fox and when he talk to the media he talk as if he think that Indian public are stupid and he gives speech as if he talking to kids who are in school. I think he is born of 10 fathers that is the reason he got big tongue.
Apparently it is quite easy for any terrorist to walk into TIDEL Park. There are NO ARMED guards. here is NO SCANNING of bags. The basement LIFT is accessible without even a single guard to check your identity. Anybody in a two-wheeler is not checked. Imagine what could happen if this landmark of India's Software Industry is targetted! The politicians are surrounded by armed guards 24X7 at the cost of the tax payer. The irony is that almost all the Software professionals are tax payers and are left without any protection.
What Chidambaram meant by saying " India is safe " is it is safe for corrupt and terrorists. This is because our Judiciary takes decades for processing cases and polticians try to protect like Afzal Guru. Lawyers who work for terrorists are paid high remuneration of Rs 2500 per day.G B SRIKANTIAH

It was the same Home Minister who said Indian Government could not provide the necessary security to the players which led to the IPL moving out of India. Now he is telling, India is safer than any other country in this world. He must be really a magician to have achieved this feat in such a short time(less than one month)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was initially declared defeated in the election and on re-count was declared elected. One does not understand how re-counting can affect the results when electronic voting machines are used. Earlier, when everything was manual, it was possible that people counting votes may make mistakes. But, Electronic machines?
Maybe India should have declared the US unsafe after 9/11 ? If India is "unsafe" now, then it is mostly due to US actions. And the dumb idiots continue to fund Pakistan ....

Sit back and think for a minute. What is US' motive in declaring India as Terrorist unsafe! Just wait for the US to drop next shoe on India.US needs India to cooperate with it when it comes to its needs in Pakistan. By declaring India unsafe US will 1st make India to bend on its knee. This in turn will make less foreign businessman travel to India....which in turn will affect its business activities and economey, that in turn will make our politicians to kiss up to the US....the end result we will toe to the US tune. I really think Chidambarm is a visioneary.
Hey ppl, Stop writing India is unsafe. Yes we do agree that there were several miscalculations and loopholes, but they are not as bad saying that India is unsafe. Tell me one country where it is not there? US trying to blame before they get blamed after Aussies. Do you think Indians in US are safe? But, still we didn't degrade any other country by issuing such warnings, coz we are a developing nation. After Aussie, then next country to be blamed will be US, which they don't want and they are trying to avoid by issuing such statements. But I do agree that we should beef up the security measures. Juz by starting NSG training camps in each state will not solve the problem. Just tell us, for whom these NSG commandos are being deployed so far? For public / Netas (the so called VIPs)? As an NRI I am sad to tell fellow Non Citizens of India , to not visit India the wat it is now. I love India where I grew up and I still have sweet memories of a land and times when life was peaceful and romance in movies between stars such as Rajkapoor, Nargis, Vyjayanthimala and the antics of Johny Walker were the rage of our daily discussions.Now everytime I visit India fear grips me and my children when we travel by train or bus. I saw one of the buses in front of ours being attacked by goons of a certain political party,with the Police standing by and doing nothing, the passengers being beaten up and the bus finally firebombed in one of our visits.No wonder when we return, we thank God that we were "Home" at last.
I respectfully disagree with the Home Minister that India is a safe place to visit for American citizens including NRIs.I do visit India periodically every two years or so and I must say that the corruption in the Civil Service and Law Enforcement in collusion with the organized criminal politicians and their associates, makes things very hard for visitors. The moment one lands in India the vultures get ready to swindle and steal from the unsuspecting foreigners.It starts with the taxi cabs to visiting historic sites without threats and pestering for money. Even travelling by trains in India is very risky what with the criminal elements trying to press their causes with the elected government, tearing away the Railway tracks and causing fatal accidents.In many cases the ruling party members are responsible for these acts. Rapes of visiting women are very common in cities such as Mumbai, Goa and Chennai.Bombings of public places are endemic. Even temples are unsafe.Chidambaram is wrong.
I have been to many places in the world, and I have only been jumped by 6 individuals in one place. That was India. The pollution and corruption is unbearable. The people of India should have a little self respect and common decency and, I don't know, quit being ignorant to the fact that this is probablly the biggest dump on earth by their own ignorance. Change is a group effort, but has to start with the individual. I have never met a more rude culture in my life. You should all be ashammed.
Obama's "India Friend" talk are only lip-service. The real friends of Obama are the Pakistan lobbist in Obama Administration. Obama's actions thus far speak louder than his lip service of India my friend....USA may feel guilty of letting down Pakistan over the decades but it is not India's fault. Pakistan targeting India for terror activities and USA funding them without any strings attached and even the little caveats placed earlier are now taken off.... India is not safe even for common innocent Indians. This is well known to many citizens and readers of media reports. Mr. PC. IS RIGHT.BECAUSE OF SOME INCIDENTS YOU CANT CLAIM THAT INDIA IS UNSAFE. After the airfrance disaster, will any body stop flying. Danger is every where. As an individual, what i have done for this country. You cant simply comment. When parliment was attacked during BJP government, what wa the reaction by others.
When our own government sacrificed so many innocent lives at the hands of terrorists in the last 5 years for minority votes(which paid off), it should not expect that all other countries are like it, they care about their countrymen, unlike ours.
Almost all polititians, education Institutions, business people, judges etc., are corrupt people as informed in the news papers etc., It will be easy for the terrorists of other countries especially from Pakistan to bribe and make friends in India to do their bad activities of killing people and to create panicky in India. All bad people from the society should be eliminated whether they are Ministers/MPS/MLAS/Business people/police/judges etc., and only good people can serve the people and the country and taking into consideration the youth of our country, good people can take India to pinacle position, by motivating them in right direction and by creating employment opportunities, bringing the bad money kept in Swiss Banks and in other places. God alone can save India.
India is unsafe. Why this statement is hurting Indian ego I do not understand. Of course India is very unsafe. The government failed to protect Indian and foreign citizens from Mumbai carnage. Mumbai is now a distant history after one month of useless blogs and statements from ministers. Apart from Mumbai many more have been killed or maimed because of caste war, kashmir conflict, Shiv sena vandalism and islamic extremism. Person like Chidambaram are pen pushers like his many bureaucrats whose world is their air-conditioned office. They began their career in an office and they will end up in retiring from an office. It seems like corruption, terrorism has been accepted as a way of life in India. Otherwise why this minister would make such a outrageous claim he has done nothing to back up with.Of couse Indians are very tolerant people, most of the time for wrong reasons, unfortunately. While I dont want to sound or be in sync with US views, I do want to ask our HM: Buddy, what made Mr. Lalit Modi take IPL to SA and above all, what made you "refuse" clearance for IPL.
Lets look at safety in a holistic way. Due to lack of foot path, people cannot walk safely in the streets, due to inadequate and selective application of traffic people are getting killed every day, in cars, scooters, in and by buses. Due to selective persecution, and vote bank politics terror groups have a free hand. Even till date NSA has only been used/ misused against Hindus and not a single terrorist has either been caught or eliminated. All the usual suspects have a free hand. Most of North Eastern India is out of control. And here our home minister who did a Houdini at the elections (did he really win?) can make these pronounements from inside the Z class VIP security. This is a democracy Far from the people, Off the people and Buy the people, but unless the majority wakeup from the slumber and are determined to hold these jokers to account, nothing will change for the better.
