New Delhi Indian economy will grow between 6.5 and 7 per cent in the year to March 2010, a member of Planning Commision said on Wednesday.

The minimum assessment for economic growth in 2009/10 is 5 per cent, Abhijit Sen, member, Planning Commission, said.

However, the series of stimulus packages would help increase the growth rate by 1.5 to 2 percentage points over and above the minimum assessment, he added.

What a shame... by CK Raju, Thrissur on 19 Mar 2009

People who are appointed in such crucial institutions of high esteem and significance are also bound to disseminate further details of their shorthand sort of ramblings with growth theories. Growth of 7% - what does it mean - does the member have a true idea of what is being informed here. Doesn't it mean that whatever corporates have produced in the entire civilisational history of India so far would be produced in the next 10 years ? Doesn't it mean that whatever damage has been done to the environment for the entire civilisational history of India so far would be done in the next 10 years ? Why is this fact being hidden from public ? When anyone says there is a growth percentage of x%, it implies exponential growth which translates to the fact that the growth would be doubled within the next 70/x years. i.e., the entire production till date would be done within this period of 70/x years. Its a matter of greatest shame to the entire nation, that people with such ignorance and having little idea about the consequences of such kind of acts occupy sensitive positions.
