India should not underestimate Pakistan's military power because it is "capable of thwarting any aggression from the east", President Asif Ali Zardari said at a meeting with Gen Tariq Majid, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, in Islamabad on Tuesday night.
Majid told the President that the armed forces were fully capable of meeting any eventuality on the eastern front, 'Dawn News' channel said.
Separately, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said while the operational preparedness of the armed forces was at an "optimal level," both Pakistan and India cannot afford tension along their border.
"Nobody wants tensions on the borders and we are moving responsibly and with caution," Gilani told reporters on the sidelines of an official ceremony.
The military is fully capable of defending Pakistan's territorial integrity, he said, adding that the operational preparedness of the armed forces is at an "optimal level".
The nation and the army are united to defend the country and its territorial integrity, he added.
"The government is aware of the situation in the region and will act as things move," Gilani said.
During a meeting with Shahid Malik, Pakistan's High Commissioner to India, Zardari said Islamabad wants good relations with New Delhi but "on the basis of sovereign equality".

First india has to make sure india has the support of the all muslim live there. Then we have to start from kashmir. indian army has been fighting the terrorists for years but no hope. Many innocent people are getting killed. India has to clean up all the terrorists from kashmir. The whole world knows the pakistan is the number terrorist country in the world. Most of the politions in that country support terrorists also they get paid money for to shut their mouth. Every year since 1947, it's getting worse. The main reason why Pakistan is behaving like this is nuclear blackmail. Only two things should be focussed on.(1) Defang Pak. of its nuclear weapon poison, I am sure USA, Israel and the entire civilized world will be happy to be part of this noble project.This is ultimate war on terrorism, almost end point of it.(2) Make Pakistan into four natural independent countries, Sindh, Muslim-Punjab, Baluchistan and merge the biggest piece as part of original Afganistan. Pakistan and Somalia are the two terrorist and failed states in the world. These two nations have no scrupples. They have no shame but they deny all their terrorist activities. India has no choice but to live with this irresponsible terrorist and fraud nation as its neighbour. This is unfortunate for India. But there is no need for India to appease or woo this horrible neighbour but to try to project Pakistan as a terrorist country to the comity of world nations.
I think India has to go to war with Pak with clear strategy, not like previous strategy just cleanup jihadi elements and their camps in POK. If India wants to protect country, theyhave to foresight whats going to happen if they just cleanup just POK terrorist camps.So if indian forces cleaned only POK camps, after some time Pak will rebuild and also with help of Arab and China support it will become more mad and uncontrollable and create nuclear mayhem. I don't know what kind of education you might have. One request though, please read the military balance between the two nations. We are not talking about Somalia or 10-year sanctioned and weakened Iraq here. Pakistan possess no less than over 100 nukes with precious missiles. The army is professional and effective. Our job is to provide evidence to interpol which we have not done yet. Why, I have no clue. Just clueless. When we talk about Pakistan, we use the words as if we are talking about Sri Lanka. Smart people understands the pros and cons of the opposition. Rest assure, the minute our military realized that we can overcome the Pakistani military, India will not wait even for one second. But the ground reality is totally different. Had we use the same harsh words against the incompetence of our government, we could have stopped such terrorist attacks in the future.

I think indian gov. never loose this opportunity to teach lesson or cleanse pak from terrorism, if they did war and crush the militancy during initial days of 1990, there is no upsurge of Taliban or Alqaeda, no Kandhahar, no Sep. 11 in US, no train attacks in UK, no spanish train bomb blasts, no indian parliament attack and finally india could have no Mumbai blasts, so previous genre of Indian politicians mistake boomerang travelled whole world and back to us.
