Pune, August 26: Forecast valid until the morning of August 28. Rain/thundershowers at:

East: Many places in Arunachal Pradesh++, Assam, Meghalaya++, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura++, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim++, Bihar and a few places in Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa and Jharkhand.

North: Many places in Uttar Pradesh, south Rajasthan+; a few places in Uttarkhand and isolated places in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and north Rajasthan.

Central: Many places in west Madhya Pradesh+ and a few places in east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chattisgarh.

Peninsula: Many places in Gujarat region+, south interior Karnataka; a few places in Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Andhra Pradesh, coastal and north interior Karnataka, Kerala and isolated places in Tamil Nadu.

Islands: A few places in Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep.

Temperatures recorded in four metropolitan centres were:

Kolkata: max 33 (+1 ) d c/ min 27 (+1 ) d c

New Delhi: max 35 (+1 ) d c/min 29 (+3 ) d c

Chennai: max 35 (+1 ) d c min/ 26 ( n ) d c

Mumbai: max 31 (+1 ) d c/ min 25 ( n ) d c

The axis of the monsoon trough at sea level passes through Ganganagar, Delhi, Lucknow, Gaya, Balasore and thence southeastwards to east central Bay of Bengal.

The cyclonic circulation over coastal areas of north Andhra Pradesh, south Orissa now lies over Vidarbha and neighbourhood between 1.5 and 3.6 km a.s.l. The cyclonic circulation extending up to 0.9 km a.s.l. over west Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood persists.

The western disturbance as an upper air system over eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir has moved away northeastwards. The other western disturbance as an upper air system over north Pakistan and neighbourhood now lies over Jammu and Kashmir and neighbourhood. System is likely to move east northeastwards.

Total rainfall during the past 24 hours at 175 available stations in the plains, out of 291 stations, is 119 cm.

Normal for the above 175 stations is 143 cm.

The southwest monsoon has been active in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and south interior Karnataka. It has been subdued in Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand, Haryana, Uttarkhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, Goa and coastal Karnataka.

Realised rainfall and chief amounts in cm during past 24 hours at East: Many places in Arunachal Pradesh++, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim++; a few places in Assam, Meghalaya#, Gangetic West Bengal and isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar. Cherrapunji 36.0, Alipurduar 14.2, Pasighat 13.5, Damohani 13.0, Jalpaiguri 9.1, Baghdora 6.6, Cooch Behar 5.1, Gangtok 3.7, Diamond Harbour, Ulberia 1.3 each, Dibrugarh 1.1, Kohima 0.7, Canning Town 0.4, Cuttack, Imphal 0.2 each, Chandbali, Bhubaneshwar, Gaya 0.1 each.

North: Many places in east Rajasthan; a few places in east Uttar Pradesh and isolated places in west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarkhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and west Rajasthan. Jhalawar 4.6, R S Damsite 4.3, Udaipur 3.4, Dharamsala 3.2, Dehra Dun 2.1, Bahraich, Gorakhpur 1.9 each, Jodhpur 1.7, Jind, Katra 1.6 each, Rawatbhata 1.2, Karnal 0.3, Patiala 0.2 and Sundernagar 0.1.

Central: Many places in west Madhya Pradesh, vidarbha; a few places in east Madhya Pradesh+ and isolated places in Chattisgarh. Mandla 8.7, Indore 5.6, Raisen, Betul 3.1 each, Narsingpur 2.8, Nowgong 1.3, Wardha 0.7, Jagdalpur 0.5. Akola 0.4 and Raipur 0.1.

Peninsula: Many places in Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka; a few places in Gujarat region+, Konkan, Goa, coastal Andhra Pradesh and isolated places in Madhya Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, coastal and north interior Karnataka and Kerala. Idar 6.8, Solapur 5.8, Bellary 5.6, Anantpur 4.8, Osmanabad 4.5, Kodaikanal 3.6, Palayamkottai 2.1, Hyderabad, Parbhani 1.7 each, Chitradurga 1.6, Kalingpatnam 1.5, Raichur, Tuni, Aurangabad 1.0 each, Mumbai 0.9, Jalgaon 0.8, aroda 0.7, Shirali, Salem 0.6 each, Nizamabad 0.5, Nalgonda, Cochi 0.4 each, Dahanu 0.3 and Gulbarga 0.2.
