Pune, July 24: Following is the forecast valid until the morning of July 26th.

Rain/thundershowers at:

East: Many places in Arunachal Pradesh++, Assam, Meghalaya++, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura++, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim+, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar and a few places in Gangetic West Bengal.

North: Many places in Uttar Pradesh+; a few places in Uttarkhand, Himachal Pradesh and isolated places in Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.

Central: Many places in east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chattisgharh and a few places in west Madhya Pradesh.

Peninsula: Many places in Konkan, Goa, Marathawada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, coastal Karnataka+, south interior Karnataka+, Kerala+; a few places in Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, north interior Karnataka and isolated places in Gujarat state and Tamil Nadu.

Islands: Many places in Andaman and Nicobar++ and Lakshadweep.

Temperatures recorded in four metropolitan centres were:

Kolkata: max 34 (+2 ) d c/ min 27 (+1 ) d c

New Delhi: max 37 (+2 ) d c/ min 27 ( n ) d c

Chennai: max 37 (+2 ) d c/ min 28 (+2 ) d c

Mumbai: max 31 (+1 ) d c/ min 25 ( n ) d c.

The axis monsoon trough at sea level passes through Amrtisar, Dehra Dun, Bareilly, Patna, Purulia, Contai and thence southeastwards to east central Bay of Bengal. Another branch extends eastwards from Patna to Assam and Meghalaya through north Bangladesh.

The off-shore trough at sea level from south Konkan, Goa coasts to Kerala coast extends from south Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast.

The cyclonic circulation extending up to 0.9 km a.s.l. over east Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood persists. The cyclonic circulations, one over east central Arabian sea off Maharashtra- Goa coasts and the other over east central and adjoining southeast Arabian sea off Karnataka-Kerala coasts, have become less marked.

The western disturbance as an upper air system over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir has moved away northeastwards.

Total rainfall during the past 24 hours at 183 available stations in the plains, is 165 cms. Normal for the above 183 stations is 181 cms.

The southwest monsoon has been vigorous in east Uttar Pradesh and active in Chattisgarh. It has been subdued in Haryana, Punjab, west Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat state and Tamil Nadu.

Realised rainfall and chief amounts in cms during past 24 hours at East: Most places in Assam, Meghalaya#, Jharkhand, Bihar+; many places in Arunachal Pradesh, Orissa; a few places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Gangetic West Bengal. Cherrapunji 33.9, Sonbara 8.1, Cuttack 5.2, Hatidha 5.1, Kamataul 5.0, Gangtok 4.3, Malda 4.0, Sriniketan 3.0, Shillong, Daltonganj 2.8 each, Balasore, Ranchi 2.5 each, Dhubri, Jharsuguda 2.4 each, Pasighat 2.3, Patna 1.2, Krishnagar 1.1 and Gya 0.5.

North: Most places in east Uttar Pradesh+; a few places in west Uttar Pradesh and isolated places in Uttarkhand, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and east Rajasthan.

Varanasi 10.9, Dharamasala 9.4, Lucknow 8.0, Allahabad 7.2, Todabnhim 1.5, Mandyl 1.0, New Delhi 0.9, Bareilly 0.5 and Dehra Dun 0.1.

Central: Most places in Vidarbha, Chattisgarh; many places ine ast Madhya Pradesh and isolated places in west Madhya Pradesh. Lonar 7.4, Chandubazar 6.3, Sironcha 5.5, Pendra 4.3, Jagdalpur 4.2, Seoni 3.9, Nagpur 3.7, Mandla 2.6, Bramhapuri 2.2, Champa 1.9, Khandwa 1.5, Tikamgarh, Gondia 0.8 each.
