Kolkata, February 3: As an emerging super power India would surely make it to the UN Security Council one day, former United Nations Under Secretary General Shashi Tharoor said on Sunday .

"It's a long process. The charter of UN has to be amended by two-third majority of the members. India feels it has a justified cause, some other countries feel they have similar causes. But I am convinced the reform in Security Council will have to come one day," he said.

Tharoor said, "I think in the long term the UN Security Council reforms have to come."

To a question if he could envisage when this could become a possibility, he said "its difficult to hazard a guess. Maybe in another 15 years or more".

He said Britain and France have become strong supporters of reforms of the Security Council.

Tharoor, who had unsuccessfully contested for the UN Secretary General's post in 2006 was attending an interactive programme organised by 'Bengal Initiative' which was also attended by dignitaries like West Bengal Governor G K Gandhi, assembly speaker Hashim Abdul Halim, Counsulars Corps of different embassies in Kolkata.
