Judge John Des Jardins ordered the forfeiture on Thursday and fixed Feb. 20 for a hearing to determine whether the money posted for Manish M. Patel would be returned to any of the 20 individuals or business entities that contributed.
The alleged victim Darshana Patel, 39, has filed a request that some of the bond money should go to her to reimburse her for money she alleges Manish took from her. The couple has a three-year-old son although Patel is married to someone else.
Manish has been charged with attempted first-degree homicide of an unborn child, six other felonies and two misdemeanors. He is accused of obtaining the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug from India and putting it in Darshana's drink.
Darshana never drank the concoction but turned it over to authorities after suspecting foul play.
Deputy District Attorney Melinda Tempelis sought bond forfeiture citing several violations of Patel's conditions including not only his flight, but also attempted contact with the alleged victim, local media reported.
Patel was last seen on Dec 20. He was ordered to report to authorities twice a week as a condition of his bond.
"We are not aware of where he is at all," Tempelis said.
According to a memorandum filed by prosecutors on Thursday, investigators determined that Patel made calls from his cellular phone from outside Wisconsin on Dec. 21.
If Patel has fled, his financial supporters won't have a strong case for having their money returned, District Attorney Carrie Schneider said earlier.
