Islamabad, February 25: The Indian cricket team will not tour Pakistan for a three-match limited-overs series next month because of its busy schedule, the Pakistan Cricket Board said Monday.

Pakistan was planning to host three one-day internationals against India in mid-March after Australia deferred its scheduled tour to Pakistan until later that month due to security fears.

Sharad Pawar, president of the Indian Cricket Board, conveyed the Indian decision to his Pakistani counterpart Nasim Ashraf, PCB spokesman Ahsan Hameed Malik said.

Pawar "explained that the tour was not possible due to the hectic schedule of the Indian cricket team," Malik said.

India is presently busy playing a triangular series also featuring Sri Lanka in Australia and is also scheduled to host South Africa in March.

Pakistan is now planning to host India before the Champions Trophy in September or the Asia Cup in June, Malik said.

Australia has expressed reservations about visiting Pakistan in mid-March, deferring the trip until the end of that month. Malik hoped that an Australian security delegation would visit Pakistan in early March to assess the situation.

Pakistan has been subject to much political violence over recent months and during elections, including the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Australia hasn't toured Pakistan since a three-match test series in 1998.

Safety First by SLB on 26 Feb 2008

India's and Australia's decision to defer their cricket tours to Pakistan,at this time, is a wise decision to ensure the safety and security to their players.  A suggestion made by one of the commentators like "RS" would prove to be pernicious and detrimental to all parties, to say the least. Wisdom is often nearer when we stoop than when we soar.  Thank you.

Caution is better by Crick on 26 Feb 2008

If the terrorist can kill the Ex-PM of Pakistan and that to a women then will they spare anyone to get publicity?? I think its better all stay way. Hurtung Zimbawe team will do not good or could be a trap set get bigger teams to tour Pakistan.

OZ in Pakistan by RS on 25 Feb 2008

How come Zimbabwe accepted the invitation and played in Pakistan. The terrorist in Pakistan will never attack the cricketers. It is Austrailia who is making all the fuss about the security and safety. They think they are America of cricket. All the world teams should ban Australia and refuse visiting them. Why is it the Pakistan people are deprived of watching cricket in their country. Infact one of the sub continent country should help them by sending their team and let pakistan public have the enjoyment of good cricket matches in their difficult time.

Bombs are no good for cricket by BC on 25 Feb 2008

Blame Islamic extremists for no cricket, if they get power you will be lucky if you are even allowed to play cricket let alone watch it.

Not because of the busy schedule, I would request all foreign cricket teams to stay away for the security reason, because no one here in Pakistan is feeling safe
