Toronto An Indian has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 22-year-old daughter-in-law in a New Year's Day knife attack at his grocery store in Mississauga near Toronto.

Kamikar Singh Dhillion, 47, was arrested on Tuesday for stabbing Amandeep Kaur Dhillon in the neck and killing her at his Airport Foods grocery store on Thursday, police said, adding the accused had inflicted knife wounds on himself to mislead investigations.

Though the motive for the murder is not clear, grief-stricken relatives talked about a troubled marriage and unhappy life in Canada, the Toronto Star reported.

The victim's cousin, Kirandeep Kaur Basran, who lives in Brampton, said: "Her father-in-law and husband, Gurinder Singh Dhillion, didn't let her meet anyone."

Amandeep had a 22-month-old son, who has been raised in Punjab by his maternal grandparents.

Is it a joke? by Kumar on 07 Jan 2009

As I am saddened by this news, I am also disppointed by its reporting. Have the editors read the story - the victim was 22 year old and has a 22 - year old son living in Punjab? Strange but then it needs common sense!
