Pune, March 4: A middle-aged woman, who went to Spain in January this year after being hired by an Indian family as a baby-sitter, has returned alleging torture and abuse by her employers.

The 42-year-old Kalpana Salunke, who returned here last week said that she was offered a job of baby-sitter at Lanzerote city in Spain by the family of a diamond merchant from India.

However, when she joined the family, she was made to work as a maid servant.

The woman also alleged in her complaint that she was overworked and on her refusal to work on occasions, the family inflicted physical and mental abuse on her.

A city lawyer and human rights activist Aseem Sarode, who filed the complaint on behalf of Salunke said today that after she was scalded on her both arms with iron rods, Kalpana ran away from the employer and approached the Spanish police with the help of a shopkeeper.

Spanish police registered her complaint against the family on February 23, a copy of which has been given to Pune police, Sarode said.

The hapless woman then contacted a local Hindustani club which reportedly tried to mend the relations between her and her employers, the lawyer said.

However, Kalpana was unwilling to stay with them and was finally sent back to Pune by the family last week without any wages.

Pune police said they had received the complaint from the woman on Saturday but had not filed FIR so far.

“We will investigate the complaint before we formally lodge FIR in the case,” they said.
