Hyderabad An Indian software engineer working with scam-hit Satyam Computer Services was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Arkansas in the US. Akshay Vishal, 26, was shot in his legs in Little Rock, Arkansas on Tuesday, his father Lakshman Murthy, a BSNL employee, said in Hyderabad.

Vishal sustained multiple injuries in the attack by suspected Afro-American men and was operated upon in a hospital in Little Rock but succumbed to injuries, he said.

"He was near his home when somebody perhaps demanded some money. He was fired at and bullets hit him in the leg. Due to this, his arteries bled profusely which led to kidney failure," Murthy said.

The engineer had gone to the US in 2005, Murthy, a resident of Begumpet (Hyderabad), said.

The killing is the latest one in the series of murders of Indian students and professionals in the US. Arpana B Jinaga, an IT engineer in Seattle was found dead in her apartment on November 3 while an engineering student in Southern Illionis University T Soumya Reddy was found murdered in September. Her cousin Vikram Reddy, also a software engineer in Chicago, was also found dead nearby.

Indians we don't want you! by Mr. USA on 04 Feb 2009

Indians should stay in India. Americans should hire Americans. Then everyone will be in their proper place. The people who put men on the moon certainly do not need to import Indian programmers, who are as incompetent and unreliable as they are arrogant.

My condolenses to families of victims. This is an appeal to our foreign affairs ministry to take these incidents seriously and see that families of victims get justice. It is very sad to say that our foreign affairs ministry is not at all bothered about these incidents. There are 7 incidents in less than one year. Once again i will sincerely appeal our foreign affairs ministry to take it very seriously.

How? Our Foreign Affairs Ministry Is Busy... by Arun on 16 Jan 2009

Condolences to the families of victims. But, Our F.A. Ministry is busy with responding to other country's queries about the attacks on foreigners in our country. They don't have much time to do any other work. Also, if we lose a few in 1 billion Indians, what difference does it make eh? Please don't disturb the F.A.Ministry on such trivial things.

Killing of Indian IT member by Dr. Vaman on 15 Jan 2009

My advise to all newly arriving people is to integrate with local population and not saggregate themselves with people from their own states in India. I met Ms. Arpana Jinaga several years ago in Hyderabad and it is sad to see this happen to her and others. In general, use the American culture of informal greetings to people in the neighborhoods and they will be safe. Also, IT companies must put up these engineers in better neighborhoods. Most IT engineers do not even talk to local population. They need to live better and speak to the population at large and not confine themselves.

Why do any body change by rakesh on 15 Jan 2009

Stay where you are by Bal thackrey on 16 Jan 2009

What Dr. Vaman said is true, indians should integrate with local population and not confine themselves within indians. If they don't like this then they should better stay in india and not come to US.

Are you nuts? by Arun on 16 Jan 2009

Are you nuts? Dr. Vaman is correct. Get out of your desi mentality and learn to integrate better.

Why is so much hungama for death of PWD engineer in Dibiyapur, while no sound for Softare Engineer? by Mayawati's birthday servant on 15 Jan 2009

It is shameful how bahujan samaj revolutionary leader and social engineer Sushri Mayawatie has been attacked by manuwadies in Auraiiya just because a PWD engineer died. So many software engineers are dying in US, but same media is sleeping and not attacking anyone like Obama or even AP CM who is chamcha of Congress. Manuwadie Congress is only attacking Maywatie ji. Is it that PWD engineer life is more important than software engineer life? Do software engineer do not have family? Only because manuwadies are jealous of Sushri Mayawatie birthdays that they want to create this problem. In US no one will go to stop birthday of Obama who is also African like the guys who killed Indian software engieer. There is no justice in world, only great leaders like Mayawatie get attacked because she is doing social engineering.

Andhra by Peter on 15 Jan 2009

Half of AP population has migrated to US in last 10 years especially upper caste due to ill treatment by the secular Government. No wonder most of Indians killed in USA by Christian extremists are from Andhra.

Death of another Andhra person by Narayana Rao on 15 Jan 2009

The matter is of great concern. US is no more safe. The surprising thing is that all dead IT officers are from Andhra. The matter needs to be looked into and maybe someother dark secrets linked to Satyam scam may caome up.

Faulty American Law by Baatul on 15 Jan 2009

This is sad. Protection provided by American Law to these drug addict murderers, especially if its committed on foreigners is the only reason that these happen so often. A white lady lawyer who happens to be my friend said that I'd start 3 steps down in American law. The reason being I'm a Foreigner, non-White and Male. Basically she said, don't expect any justice in The Great American Courts if you get entangled there !!!
