Dubai, July 19: An Indian worker, who was allegedly manhandled by his superior for protecting his co-worker from assault, is fighting for life at a hospital in Riyadh, reports said on Saturday.

Sudheesh Kalathilparambil, hailing from Kerala, was brought to the hospital by a group of social workers that found him in critical condition in Al-Kharj, about 80 km from the Saudi capital, the report said.

Sudheesh, working as a manual labourer in a construction company in Khamis Mushayt at a worksite in Barak, had to bear the brunt of his boss when he tried to save his colleagues.

A supervisor of the company, an Egyptian national, began physically assaulting the workers while they were taking a short break during the work. Sudheesh intervened on his colleagues' behalf. The supervisor then turned his rage on Sudheesh and beat him, the Arab News said in a report.

The Federation of Kerala Associations in Saudi Arabia has written a letter to the governmental Human Rights Commission and the government-approved National Human Rights Commission asking the organisations to investigate the matter.

Indian mistreatment by Akhan on 20 Jul 2008

Isn't it time Inia should go towards becoming a superpower: does not most Indians aspire to being rich and not being controlled, influenced, badly treated by foreign media, perosn, govt, UN etc?

Indian worker thrashed in Riyadh, battles for life by koustuve on 20 Jul 2008

After reading the above abstruct I am sure that its we Indian who encourage all to mistreat the workers, perticularly the kerelites who plays all dirty politics and tricks to ill treat collegeues and get advantage in the eyes of their senior management. Managemnt doesnt encourage such activities as their reputation and work permits are at stake. These kerelite managements must be warnned and punished against such activites in their organisation and not only that they are turnishing the image of our country outside. strong action must be taken against them.

manual worker by j on 20 Jul 2008

Manual workers have to be given more pay and protection. They may have no choice in the work for various reasons, but their work is more difficult than those who sit in an office.Manual workers of any country should be given this right whether garbage collectors or construction workers. I pray this man has a speedy recovery .

Indians in Middle east by Minu Menon on 20 Jul 2008

Keralite Indians, especially the low paid workers are very badly treated in Middle east. Unfortunately there are no employment opportunities in Kerala because of Trade Unions and Communists who have closed all industries and businesses. In Kerala we have only petty shops and sarai kadais (Liquor shops) run by the communists.

I hope and pray speedy recovery for Sudheesh. His bravest act of defending his colleague from atrocities will not go unforgotten. God bless.

Asian Workers in Gulf Countries by krishna on 19 Jul 2008

It is a common site to see arab expatriates to treat asian workers including Indian workers badly especially people working in small and not reputable building construction firms, cleaning companies etc. It is disheartening to see such situations.

why all that hatred? by abhi on 19 Jul 2008

this is a message to the previous comment, why all that hatred? indian expacts have been in saudi for years and when somthing like this happens you call for hatred. they were that barbaric they would not have published the story in there own news paper "arab news" which is published in Riyadh. all expacts are happy in saudi and such things can happen in any country so stop your barbaric hate calling and be civilized before accussing a nation with somthing because of the acts of a few.

Thrashing of Indian labourer by Dr G on 20 Jul 2008

This proves again that in an Islamic country there is no human rights of a non muslim. Can you imagine what woulld have happened if this was the other way-- had a muslim been a victim and the accused a non muslim!! Our so called secular Indian government and the communists will not speak a word about this ghastly act, I leave aside the muslim parliamentarians.
