Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men struggled to collect their suitcases and cricket kits at the Auckland airport after enduring a 10-hour flight from Hong Kong.
They waited for another three hours at Auckland before boarding a flight for here, making it a bone-weary 27-hour trip from Mumbai. Missing a luggage-handler, the players were left to carry their suitcases themselves.
"I know the players' problem. It needs to be addressed. Hosts countries have often said that they can't appoint such people because of security problems. But I will write to them and convince them to do something about this," said team administrative manager Niranjan Shah, a former BCCI secretary.
"Why should there be discrimination? When foreign teams come to India, we have people carrying their luggage. But when we travel, we have to do it ourselves," fumed a senior player.
"If this continues to happen, they should get us accustomed to carry our luggage in Indian cities as well," he added.
Recalling his bitter experience during a 1996 tour of Holland, where the team had gone to promote cricket, the player said, "We had gone there to promote the game. But there was nobody to receive us at the airport. We had to arrange for transport. Getting the baggage into the bus was a Herculean task."

Carry your own baggage. That's how the rest of us do it. Big Deal.
But ofcourse, it's not a new thing. Remember a famous song 'it happens only in India' oops sorry New Zealand. But i love my india and lets hope that we'll win again.
Indians take kicks because they don't know how to kick back or, perhaps, don't have the guts to do so.
Whatis so great about carrying your own baggage in the airports. If the same thing had happened in India the media and the players would have made a great issue of it.
Why can't they behave like normal human beings. Whats the big deal in carrying their own Baggage. There are trollys available. Do they need servants?
that is the real test of nerve don't get my boys don't get mired with this sort of disrespect shown by host country. Play good and sporty cricket and win hearts of New Zelander so that they came to your feet and succumb to your dictates.
This is not a big issue. Nothing will happen if our cricket heros carry their own luggage. In many developed countries like U.S.A., people having status more than that of our cricket heros, carry their own luggage and do other labourious household works. We, Indians do not have a work culture .That is the problem.
Who do these cricketers think, they are...GOD. They better start behaving. Just because we Indian fans love cricket, does not mean we will tolerate their obnoxious behaviour.
In the west people do the work themselves and indians are no exceptions. Gone are the eras when only Maharaja's or princes used to play cricket.... This master and slave mentality must be rid off, if India has to achieve actual independence
These countries, particularly, Australia and New Zealand are quick to say that India is a third world country if this happens to them. India should reciprocate this and tell these people what we think of them aloud and repeat it often. What arrogance these idiots have smacks one's imagination.
Indians who live abroad know that they have to carry their own luggage. Even Indian Board members know that. So, how come Indians go out of their limits to arrange carriers to help the white cricket players while in India. They should stop bending forwards to say yes Sir, no Sir, and I will carry your bags Sir.
Indians know, if they bend too much, they will get tips for which our Indians are dieing. Do not worry Sridhar, let us start improving ourselves, then we can repair others.
So what if our cricketers had to carry their luggage in N.Z. All over the world ( Developed Countries )people from all positions( biiger than the cricketers ) carry it themselves. We are a poor
All the members in the cricket family are really white elephants. They have earned so much and under the weight of the money they have amassed by fooling the most foolish Indians, they cannot bend to carry their own luggage. No use in criticising them.
Our cricketers have been pampered so much that they do not realise that this is a normal way of life everywhere except in Indian subcontinet. Our board and other cricketing boards in the region rather go out of way in providing mind boggling hospitality to the foreign cricketers. The way they are treated with "Tilaks" and garlands at the hotels by the hotel waitresses smacks of treating them like semi-Gods. It is better we learn the international norms of showing simple hospitality with out making much fuss about it. Let us treat the game of cricket as an event of sport and try to provide a simple, straightforward an efficient living and transportation arrangements to the foregn teams when they visit us. Let our cricketers also learn from such experiences to believe in living a life like anybody lives in other parts of the world. After all, hockey players do not complain like this when they go to foreign countries, especially when they also were recently in Newzealand.
It is nothing rather than a issue of damaged egos of Indian demi god supper stars
alls well that ends well....amen!
What! Are these guys serious? Whats the fuss about carrying your own luggage? These airheads need to be made understand that in all civilised countries, people do these things on their own.
stop making comments about other countries... what is civilised and what is not... you sound racist..the whole world is civilsed, civilastions differ... as far India is concerned, we are the only surviving civilisation.. all you folks are new
just because you carry your own ban ...need not mean you are civilized!!! But i HAVE to agree that they are spoilt
If u have ever played cricket, u shud realize that the kit and amount of baggage these people carry, it becomes imperative that there should be some assistance in porting them to destinations, unlike other travellers. And Indian Hospitality is nowhere related to this issue.
they are the stars of india - they have to be given the respect and we must all stoop low and kiss their butts- show the world that we are proud of them and will not tolerate any disrepect from kiwis, australians, english, americans or mexicans
