Salem (TN) The ISRO proposed to undertake the country's first manned moon mission by 2020 following the success of Chandrayaan-I, project director of Chandrayaan-I M Annadurai has said.

The successful launch of Chandrayaan-I in October last year has given space scientists the confidence to undertake manned mission to moon, Annadurai told reporters in Tamil Nadu on Sunday.

The Chandrayaan-II mission is expected to be undertaken within a couple of years followed by Chandrayaan-III, he said. The Chandrayaan-I mission has been sending considerable amount of data and scientists are busy analysing it, he said.

Several countries have approached India to set up a common lunar research centre for conducting various studies, the director added.

India's scientific development by Dchat on 10 Mar 2009

As many of the gentlemen here say that India's moon missions are only show of power, so my friends let me tell you something development of science is as much important as removing hunger, poverty...etc. This scientific development will give results in long run

Bankruptcy in scientific thinking and tendency to imitate others by Jay on 12 Jan 2009

Just like any other branch of science, ISRO too now got a job: to repeat all the experiments others did long ago and which have no relevance in current world (other than beating ones’ own drum without any real achievement). I hope ISRO scientists and its head know why Russians never sent any man in the Moon and what US achieved in terms of scientific knowledge or technical ability (product) by sending men in the moon for few times and then abandoned that routine process! Indian govt must not waste public money in such useless missions and advertise that to glorify its image. It rather should spend on primary education, building infrastructure, revamping police force, expanding judiciary to deliver justice within a reasonable time and so on, not on some fancy useless missions which will serve no purpose to the country and its people.

Moon mission by Bal Thackrey on 12 Jan 2009

Instead of aiming at moon till 2020, india should aim at removing hunger from the country and care for its people who are still under previledged.

Moon mission by Niranjan on 12 Jan 2009

It would be a mission to be crorepatiness for many politicians and other govt. officials. The inflated prices of all components, foreign trips to learn how other countries launched their men on moon, etc. would cost us the ''aam admi" billions which could be used here on earth much better. But when the plots are hatched at the top, we ,the people, cannot do anything but watch our money go up in smoke, or go to the moon, if you will. Good job, Government!

Thats not so! by Indian on 12 Jan 2009

India's space capabilities are not merely for flaunting somebody's ego! They already started earning revenue. India is slowly waking up to the reality of playing a role of prominence in research and intellectual property. This is great going for India. There are home less people in US as well, that is among their biggest problems. That we have some problems does not mean we should not innovate and generate revenue. Problems can be solved only with development and money, how can we solve them otherwise?! ANd if we want money we have earn it, we cannot just print money. Hope you get the message.

Pakistan too would launch manned fidayeen mission by Ajay Date on 12 Jan 2009

In order to catch up with India, Pakistan too would launch a new Space programe. Space Fidayeens! They will launch them from the Arabian Sea so that the government can later deny any hand in it!

Space Fidayeen by Natarajan on 13 Jan 2009

Good one buddy! After the space fidayeens have struck our space program, te Pakistani PM will ask for evidence. BTW, they had access to all the evidence of Bhutto assisination. What have they done with it?

Use money properly by Vinay K on 12 Jan 2009

Our scientist should develop some equipment so that terrorist will not be able to enter our country. If we can save our nation from these terror groups using some innovation it will be helpful. We should spend our resources on safety instead of Moon mission etc.
