India’s pin-up boys from Haryana appointed DSPs

Chandigarh, August 22: Haryana Government decided on Friday that four players from Haryana - three boxers and one wrestler - who reached the Quarter Finals of the Beijing Olympic Games would be appointed as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) in the state police.

An official statement quoting Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the decision to appoint the three boxers Vijender Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Akhil Kumar and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt as DSPs has been taken "in recognition of their significant achievements."

The government also announced a reward of Rs 25 lakh to the boxing coach from Haryana Jagdish, who imparted training to the trio from the state.

The state has already announced an award of Rs 50 lakh for Vijender, who lost in the Semi-final today and Rs 25 lakh each for Akhil Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt besides decision to set up two academies for the training of boxers and wresters.
