New Delhi also clarified that Vice President Hamid Ansari had no plans to meet the Dalai Lama, leader of the Tibetan Government in exile in Dharamshala, following a ‘rumour’ about such a meeting, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said.
"The Indian side has clarified to China on relevant rumour, saying there's no such plan," Qin was quoted as saying by the official Xinhua news agency.
He said New Delhi - which maintains that Tibet is an internal issue of China - has assured Beijing that its position on Tibet is ‘clear and consistent’ and it would not change in the future.
China is fighting the unrest in Tibet where riots erupted early this month during monks-led protests against Beijing's rule, jolting the Communist leadership. The most vicious protests in two decades have led to 19 deaths in mob violence -- 18 civilians and a police officer.
The meetings of some Western leaders with the Dalai Lama, whom Beijing accused of masterminding the recent Lhasa riots, earlier had angered China which had warned the countries concerned that their action would undermine and damage the bilateral relations.
On Friday, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi met the Dalai Lama and spoke out against China's "oppression" in Tibet, infuriating Beijing which asked others not to meddle in its internal affairs.
India's position on Tibet has come in for praise from China, with Premier Wen Jiabao himself acknowledging that Beijing "appreciates" the stand taken by the Indian government to handle the Tibet "independence" activities.

RatingIt's easy to criticise the Indian government for supporting China on such a sensitive issue, particularly when it's the very country that offered refuge to the victimised Tibetans.But, I reckon the decision reflects the collective conscience (or lack of it) of Indians in the 21st century. Today's generation prides itself in capitalism-driven growth and in succeeding at any cost. Ethics conveniently take a back-seat when they hamper success.The decision to support China is reflective of this approach - in the prime of its economic growth, the last thing India would want to do is to anger China, one of its most important trade partners and the driver of the global economy, on which India and its famed 'Gen-X' is so heavily dependent. When it came to choosing between whether to support what is just and humane and putting itself in danger or being a mute spectator and aligning interests with the economic superpower, India chose the latter. Just like you and me do.
The stand of the Indian govt. is indefensible. Except the Left parties, which indulge in US bashing day in and day out but had "no views to offer on Tibet", all Indiand across the political spectrum disapprove of Chinese action against peaceful Tibetans. These people have been marginalised in their own homeland by the invading ethnic Chinese and their culture and religious beliefs are under threat. By refusing to deal with thousands of Tibetans living in exile in India and worldwide, the Chinese govt. is behaving in an inhuman and undemocratic manner conspicuous of a communist regime. Instead of repeating parrot-like that Tibet is an internal matter of China, India should take a principled stand that the Chinese govt. stop using force against people living in yh autonomous region of Tibet and create suitable to enable the refugees to return to their homeland and live in peace. Let the world also know that the position og the Indian government is no shared by a large number of Indians.
Even though Indian government has decided to remain on the sidelines of Tibetan issue this time; but the history and morality can not keep the common man immune to emotional outbursts that this issue raises. Everyone fears the way chinese have ruled their own country during the 20th century, with severest of punishment for petty crimes. It may itself be the reason for it's progress and discipline, but the tool itself is repelling even to most chinese that I ever encountered. The fact that China has unleashed deadly force against Tibetans now and in past, coupled with blocking of all news, gives a fearful twist to the imagination of people. How many died, butchered, shot in cold blood into their head, spared women, children or feeble or not- these questions make chinese look like killing machines. China- the engine of world- is awful to comprehrend now in it's old formset. The only hard argument that china could have banked upon was at least an open access to media; which it has lost.
What China is engaging right now is demonising the Tibetan people, and taking Dalai Lama's Ghost run loose on the psyche of it's people. Their politicians will eventually brain wash their own people to hide their own weakness in philosophy and approach, before embarking on the old style butchering and maiming the Tibetans. What their polticians are doing is something the world must dread, and it's reaction should be equally measured, at least a full support to boycotting the olympics and even chinese made things, so that some human sense can be instilled into it's political thinking which can steer bloody and messy anytime, if it's past is any reflection of what's possible. China must be made to address this problem with a rational approach, that can be accepted reasonable by thinkers of world.
WHAT SHAME FUL AND COWARDLY ACT OF INDIA.IT WON"T STOP CHINA FOR CONTINUING IT"S HUNGER FOR MORE INDIAN LAND AND ON THE SIDE OF PAKISTAN TO BULLY INDIA.

If you dont know- know this now- Nancy Pelosi is opposed to Bush's Iraq policy. She talks only for herself and her party and she is consistent in that. She does not represnt the current US administration. Why not be better informed before posting based on assumptions?.
India's stand on the Tibetian upraise is really unfortunate. Tibet is under occupation and we are supporting that. If we draw parallel then the current Indian politicians and statemen would not have any problem if UK had continued to occupy India. What a shame!!!!!! Indian National Congress should stop taking pride for being part of Freedom struggle.Tibetian people..... if you want to demonstrate against the Chinese government then don't do it in fornt of the Chienese embassy. HQ of CPI and CPIM are the right place for such protests. Actaully CPI and CPIM party members are more Chinese and represent China more then Chinese Embassy in India. Please go protest there.I wish it was emotionally easy for one to disown his country and leave it forever to aviod being so bady disappointed by its government and politicians.

Mr. Nadeem;There is no conspiracy, or any obsession with democracy on the part of US or the rest of the free world. Now with freedom there are resposibilities. If you would wake up and see what democracy has done to Israel, where it has surpasses any of it's Arab neighbours then you would understand. How can Tibet movement be secession when it was invaded and occupied by the Chiness.With the exception of Malaysia, a democracy, the rest of the muslim world has nothing to show for achievements or progress.
For people who dont care much about anything else or anybody else but their own Islamic religion and their own Islamic world and its members- its not very surprising that they cant see the genuine problems of the Tibetians who are settled all over the world, whose fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, husbands and wives, grand parents, and sons- loved ones were taken away and usually killed in cold blood or sometimes jailed by the brutal inhumane Chinese Government - a government that has cuased the disappearance of about 2 million Tibetians uptil now. These Tibetians are real people with same blood, flesh and skin like any Muslim- but this Islamic man thinks this is a USA conspiracy?. (PART-2)The 'TURMOIL" also has the look of a ‘Stage Managed’ show by Dalai Llama’s sympathizers across our northern borders that is apparently designed and ‘timed’ to embarrass China as it prepares for conducting the prestigious Olympic games for the first time. This development on India ’s northern borders now is an especially worrisome one for India . Because, as it is, political uncertainty in its western neighbor Pakistan with daily terrorist attacks there raising doubts whether it can survive this onslaught by the terrorist groups out to sabotage formation of a democratic government there and its ramification on us; was already causing us a lot of worry. These ‘Twin Trouble’ spots on India ’s Western and Northern borders are surely going to test the nerve and mettle of our Foreign Minister Pranob Mukherjee and his ministry for sure!

(PART-1) After Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence and prompt recognition of its sovereignty by US and many other NATO countries, many were anticipating eruptions of similar moves and demands from many of the secessionist groups around the world that were till then lying low but who got emboldened after the Kosovo declaration. This so called ‘spontaneous’ uprising in Lhasa- Tibet and that too by Buddhist Monks known for their normally peaceful demeanor and behavior as well as its timing makes one suspect some foreign hand’s involvement in instigating and nurturing it.This political turmoil in Lhasa, Tibet very clearly appears to have been instigated and encouraged from a FAR OFF PLACE (Unitedly Destructive STATES of AMERICA !)
Kosovo is a muslim country, now in your previous posts your tone was "rest of the world is conspiring against muslims". You are contradicting yourself, which one of your two contentions is true? You can't have it both ways.
Indian Govt. is deceiving itself if it coniders that its views on events in Tibet are given any weightage by the Chinese Govt. Weak nations,like India. do not command any respect for its opinion on international affairs. China has shown its courage in criticising our PM's visit to Arunachal Pradesh, an integral part of India. China could indulge in such shameless interference in our internal affairs only because the Chinese Govt. knows our disgusting weakness.
When Congress desperately needs the support of Commies to stay in power, China stands to gain! Perhaps, Congress can "invite" China to come and "develop" India. Commies will be mightily pleased.
India's position regarding Tibet has been to appease China. Disgraceful policy was adopted by Nehru.By recognising Tibet as part of China we have not only let the people of Tibet down but have brought the monster of China to our borders. China has occupied large areas of our land and often supported Pakistan against us.We should be supporting the freedom fighters of Tibet not only only on moral grouns but also to pay back to China for all the harm it has tried to do to us as a nation.
China's stand on Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim is also very clear: The land belongs to them. So is Aksai Chin Kashmir. So bottom line is: India's stand is Tibet belongs to them, China's stand is AP, Sikkim etc also belongs to them. A bunch of cowards.
