New Delhi, July 21: Accusing ‘elements’ in Pakistan for the suicide attack on Indian mission in Kabul, India on Monday made it clear that the recent spate of terror attacks and ceasefire violations triggered from across the border have put the peace process ‘under stress’.

In some tough-talking, Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon told his Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir that these concerns of New Delhi must be addressed.

After the fifth round of the Indo-Pak composite dialogue on peace and security, Jammu and Kashmir and other Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), Menon told reporters that the composite dialogue process was under stress.

He said the talks were happening at a ‘difficult time of our relationship with Pakistan’ following the return of democracy there.

"Unfortunately, there have been several issues in the recent past which have vitiated the atmosphere and the composite dialogue process is under stress," Menon said.

In this context, he referred to the recent violations of the ceasefire along the LoC, cross-border terrorism and incitement of violence in Jammu and Kashmir.

"There have been public statements by some leaders in Pakistan, who are reverting to the old polemics," Menon said, adding all these things had culminated into the suicide bombing at the Indian embassy in Kabul in which over 40 people, including Indian Defence Attache, and other employees of the mission, were killed.

"Our investigations so far point towards a few elements in Pakistan to be behind the (Kabul) blast," he said, but refused to identify these elements saying investigations were continuing.

Democracy is the Scurge of Pakistan by Khandu Patel on 22 Jul 2008

For those who had hoped that the return of the pretentions of democracy in Pakistan would would usher in a new age of peace and prosperity, should realise the delusion they have been living under. The military that Musharraf is realised that continuing conflict was draining the strength of his country without much affecting India's. For Pakistan's politicians who have no reason to think of the price their country has had to pay have always been willing to bang the drums of war and conflict. This was as much the case Benazir Bhutto as it is with the present administration. It was not so long her husband declared his acceptance of the de facto situation on Kashmir. No Pakistani, least of all in her military was ever enthused with the acceptance of the right of India to exist in security and unmolested. Pakistan may have helped to acquiring nuclear weapons, but it would not stop her sure and certain destruction if it does not change its tune.

End the talks, start the war by Jatin Patel on 22 Jul 2008

Mr. Menon:Please end the talks, round table talks, tri-partite talks and confidence building measures. You are wasting time of Indians for over six decades. Most hindu Indians want jehad with Pakistan, irrespective of nuclear blackmail. It is very well known that power hungry monks from your party are not ending pakistani occupation of kashmir after Shimla agreement, nor are they worried anymore about blasts after blasts. So why are you stressed?? Your boss does not loose the sleep! You are all not patriotic bunch of power hungry mafia..budy dividing hindus on SC/ST for your personal power hunger. If you are patrioritc, take up the gun and start demanding the occupied kashmir.
