Ludhiana, January 19 The functioning of Ludhiana police has raised eyebrows in a case of beating up of a senior insurance official, allegedly by two industrialist brothers last week.

While the insurance official has levelled serious allegations on the brothers, police have booked them in less serious charges, and the duo has been bailed out.

Rakesh Talwar, Senior Divisional Manager with Oriental Insurance Company, GT Road, Miller Ganj, was attacked and injured on January 14, allegedly by industrialist brothers JP Singh Nalua and Parminder Singh.

Talwar alleged that Nalua and his brother had come to his office on January 14 at about 5.30 pm. He said that the duo was carrying a baseball bat and a pistol, and started beating him, saying why the case regarding compensation of fire in their factory had not been cleared. “I told them that the survey report in their case had not come yet,” Talwar said.

He alleged that at this, the duo said, “We will see about our case later, and will break your legs first.” Talwar said that while one of them pointed a pistol on him, the other hit him with the baseball bat. He said this all happened in the presence of some of his colleagues. Talwar said he suffered injuries on his right leg and left arm.

Talwar added that the brothers then left his office, warning him to clear their case. According to Talwar, they claimed that they would kill him if their case was not cleared. “They openly said that they had good approach in the police department, and did not fear the police.” Later on his statement, an FIR was registered by Division Number 2 police station.

Talwar alleged that police had toned down the charges levelled by him, and not arrested the accused persons.

When contacted, Division Number 2 SHO Surinder Mohan asked this reporter to speak to the incharge of Miller Ganj police post, ASI Balwinder Singh.

The ASI, in his turn, said, “We had arrested the accused JP Singh Nalua and his brother Parminder Singh in a case under sections 107 and 151 of CrPC on January 16. The duo was produced before the court of SDM and was bailed out. As far as the other charges against the duo is concerned, these offences were bailable, thus they were bailed out.”
