The IG, Western Range, Rakesh Gupta, who is conducting the inquiry, said that he would not talk to the DIG CRPF regarding the incidents. Raj had headed the Central police contingent on the poll day in Nandigram.
“I do not think that we will talk to Alok Raj. It is not important. I visited Nandigram yesterday and spoke with the victims, some CRPF personnel and the villagers. This is an inquiry and not an investigation, therefore it is not necessary for me to talk and record statements of everyone,” said Gupta.
“I will submit a report as soon as possible and it is not necessary that the CRPF DIG’s version will be there,” The IG added.
Expressing his ignorance over the issue, Alok Raj said: “No body contacted me for any inquiry. I still do not know what is the complaint against me or my unit. I have already informed my seniors about what happened on poll day in Nandigram.”
The state government had ordered Gupta yesterday to conduct an inquiry on the molestation charge against CRPF officers, including Raj. Subsequently, the IG visited various areas in Nandigram yesterday.
Sporadic violence, meanwhile, marred repoll in four booths of Nandigram. The CPM and TMC supporters clashed with each other at booth number 26, 26 A, 104 and 83 in Gangra, number 7 Jalpai, Mahestolla and Sonachura. The Opposition claimed that CPM rigged the booths number 104 in Gangra and 83 in number 7 Jalpai. Refuting the rigging charges, the CPM said that the repoll was peaceful.
