Tendulkar had suffered a painful blow from Blackcaps fast bowler Iain O'Brien during the second ODI at Wellington. Despite stiffness in the abdomen region, he played the third game and aggravated the injury while scoring a magnificent century, his 43rd in limited overs cricket.
An MRI done on Monday at a hospital in Christchurch revealed that there had been traces of internal bleeding, ruling him out of Wednesday's match in Hamilton.
"The report has indicated there has been internal bleeding in the stomach. But I should be ready to play in the next couple of days," said Tendulkar.
"It is painful that I have to miss a game when there has been good momentum. I have been hitting the ball well." The master batsman will sorely miss on-field action as he has been in prime from, strumming up scores of 20, 61 and 163 retired hurt for an aggregate of 244 runs.
In 20 years of international cricket, this is possibly the first instance that the Mumbaikar has suffered internal bleeding to a blow with a cricket ball.
Tendulkar's chest had been peppered with bouncers in the Caribbean. But despite suffering clots on the rib-cage, he had braved to take on Mervyn Dillon's artillery in the 2002 series against the West Indies.
His ankle, elbow, back, foot and little finger have troubled him one time or the other during his illustrious career.
But this is the only instance when internal bleeding has stopped him from playing, frustratingly when he has been producing delectable symphonies at the crease.
"I would not know if this has been the worst. But it has caused me discomfort. The abs are really stiff," he said. Only a braveheart, or one so committed as he is, could have played an innings of such calibre and intensity with the enormity of injury he was carrying.
"It got very difficult as the innings wore on. At one stage, I felt a twitch. It would have been great to go on and complete a double hundred, which was on my mind, but the body could not take it any more," said Tendulkar.
It is learnt that the team wanted him to go continue and score a double hundred. In fact, he had been offered a runner as well. But Tendulkar had put team before self, deeming it would benefit the side if he retired.
The team management felt that it is better he rests as the Test matches where around the corner.
Even if he misses the fifth ODI at Auckland, the master batsman will be tready and kicking for the first test at Hamilton on March 18.

If you have the capability to give good perfomances for the team and self, then it should be apreciated by the others.let see,if somebody going in wrong direction, then we must try to change thisBUT if somebody in the best direcion then there is no need of disturbing him or her.SO PLZ... I EXTREMLY REQUESTED YOU THAT DONT SAY ANYTHING TO THE"GOD OF CRICKET"--"SACHIN"
to the dimwitted people criticizing sachin, india wouldn't even have reached the 94 semifinal and 2003 final were it not for sachin. he carried india on his back for almost a decade. that time the indian bowling was garbage and india's batting routinely faltered against akram, waqar, mcgrath with the exception of sachin. only ganguly and dravid supported him sometimes. so please do not engage in this sachin bashing.
hi friends i dont have much idea about cricket, but i have een even a small boy of 6 years is talking about sachin, whether he is palying for country or for his records its secondray but we are getting results behind that, because of him many times india got a good name, being an indian why cont we pray for his speedy recovery, not addvising you all but after seeing your coments just felt like saying to you guys, if i am not wrong.
how can u b so sure dat they are from UP and BIHAR . i too am from bihar
Heads off to the Little Master . Master of not only Cirket but one offthe biggest Master of life. All the best...to get well soon to one of the most commited son of India
it just laughable when we read people try to criticize such an oustanding bastmen in cricket history,we should be proud that he is an indian and has made us all proud with his talent, even at the age of 37 he give the opposition bowlers and captains sleepless nights before the make and the tours, its very easy to criticize, but does anyone know what is it to perform in real than sitting and making statements,i for one salute the master bastmen and would be one of the most happiest indian when our master bastman sachin tendulkar completes 100 centuries in international cricket,"KEEP IT UP SACHIN WE ARE ALL WITH YOU", you have made us all proud, may god bless you and your family,we all love you and we all stand by you,the world admire you sachin ,even see what john wright says you will easily complete 100 centuries in international cricket,we cant stop people with negative thinking.hats off once again you are superb and outstanding sachin.
please think clearly,if sachin was not there in 1990-2000,there will be garbage in cricket .no one liked to watch cricket, and future of cricket might be same as now what the condition of hocky in our country, and one thing people used to watch the matches on the hope of sachin'ds performance....ALL THE GUYS WHO DIDNOT APPRECIATE SACHIN AFTER DOING GOOD PERFORMANCE ARE THE ONLY PERSONS WHO ARE BLIND IN THE REGIONAL DIVERSITY....AND I AM 100% SURE THAT THEY ARE NOTHING BUT U.P. AND BIHARIES.
Hats-off to Sachin. True that regional thinking should not come into cricket but saying that " THE GUYS WHO DIDNOT APPRECIATE SACHIN AFTER DOING GOOD PERFORMANCE ARE THE ONLY PERSONS WHO ARE BLIND IN THE REGIONAL DIVERSITY....AND I AM 100% SURE THAT THEY ARE NOTHING BUT U.P. AND BIHARIES" are you not showing regionalism yourself!!!!
Every cricket lover loves tendulkar irrespoective of cast and creed.I dont know why are you targetting and mixing race. You are someone who is frkm a bad family and definately a good religion as I think every religion is good, but you are creating a bad name for your reliogion, nationality and yourself alog with your family. You wil definately not support any indiviual other than Tendular or from thsis state.Cast maniac couch.Go to hell please
Too Much to Predict... A Reminder "Hero Cup Semi Final,ICC knock out against aussies,Century aga Pak in Chennai,98 against Pak in world Cup,Century and 91 in Finals aga Aussies,Most world cup runs in 2003,Two centuries On Last Aussies Tour (Test),3 wickets taken when steew wagh Team gets down in Kolkata afater Laxman Merathan,11 Test Centuries vs Aussies,155 vs SA on last tour .............. He is not perfect but its fact he started "Revolution for New Cummers" he tought the world what real strength of Indians are .... If he would have opened since his career , he might have managed 55 average in ODI.... He is ever underpressure now He feels kool and performs great.
He is playing for records and now he make the score no body will say otherthing when he fail nothing ? cricketr having more man are u seen them t opay to any one needy ?so they have to pay to doctors after.Gangualy was the man the send him out
Really how u know he is playing for records.Hwy man records are not made by Sachin in cricket .Cricket wants the records by Sachin...If u get it try to understand but it is sure it requires mind to get these things.....I m sure u will understand within next coming 15 years when u will be matured in cricket...
I personally request you not to insult the great icon. If you think he is playing for records let it be. but every record he makes belongs not only to him but also to we Indian. its an Indian record and i wish he will get more and more records for sure. If he hadn't played for India like that b4 then we would have been even worse team in the world.
this shows he is getting old ...........
Bad timing for this post. You should have put it up when he was out of form. Save it for the next time.
While Sachin's contribution to Indian cricket is unquestioned..........it is amusing that Sachin is his own doctor and declares which match he will play before the injury is healed. It is clear that since long he has being palying for himself and records.....while depriving youth ion bench from getting a chance.
I really feel sad for Sachin. One of the best players the game has ever seen, acknowledged by all who play the game as the best there is, and people who have no idea of the person or the game have made it a pastime to pass judgements on him. Sachin, please keep playing the way you want to. There is a massive base of your fans who will revere you as God wherever you go.
You say his contribution to indian cricket is unquestioned...yet tou conclude that he has been playing for himself and records...this shows the dumbness of you sachin haters...you try to dig some reason to put down the legend as it hurts you that an indian can do such wonders across the world...try to learn some good cricket first and learn to analyze things with a positive frame of mind...
Do you understand English you dumb............I said since long.....not always...Since 2002-03 when Ashley Giles toued India and bowled round the wicket, and sachin used his pad,the ba;ll hitting his anus and rolling over to his back and falling on the ground......Sachin has ceased to be a world No 1.Since then he is playing for himself.he is smart and certainly a good human being as well..knows how to talk.Only if Vonod Kambli had this skill of the gab....we would have been No 1 team....lon glong time back
Don't get worked up if someone doesn't agree with you.I think you are definitely prejudiced in your opinion. He has played some outstanding cricket since 2002. Probably you were too busy to catch that or too prejudiced to appreciate. He is a team man and everybody, with out exception, who has played with him has acknowledged it time and again. His commitment and conduct on the field and off it is exemplary. His performance has been consistant and by your own admission he is a good human being and a smart bloke who knows how to talk. Is it bad to be a good conversationalist and capable of saying right things that suit your interest with out harming others. By the way if youth is good nobody can stop him from coming into the team. Players like Munaf, Praveen, Irfan, Yusuf, Raina, Gambhir, Sehwag, wouldn't have been a part of our team if they were not good since they come from very humble background. By the way, Sachin also comes from a humble background. Vinod Kambli had good game but bad temperament and no discipline that prevented him from reaching the heights that he could have. Sachin earned fame, money and adulation at the age of 16 and still carry his head firmly on his shoulders with out any airs. JUst think what were you and I capable of at the age of 16. Open your mind and let rationale rule emotions. Your dislike cannot undo what a great player like Sachin has done for the country, the game and for himself.
You guys have got me wrong.......It is hurting to see him drag his career after setting high standards. That apart.......how can he decide his avaiability for next ODI after having a serious injury.Someone has to have balls to stop this.........Sunil GAvaskar,Sashtri,Arun LAl,Harsha and company are sweet talkers.By saying this I am not taking any credit from Sachin.I agree he is all that you have said....anyone would be proud to have him as a friend,brother,son,cousion,teammate,etc....No questions asked.....
You stupid man saying"shame on...." must bhiya and don't know the cricket. What the held dhoni is doing, nothing just a sheet,b'use of good team he is good.
As much as I want to get emotional and lambast you sachin critics, I would remain objective to convey my point. Sachin is not dragging along. The only reason you say that is because of his age. Ishant Sharma / Zaheer Khan / others also get injured. It is part of the game. As for his capabilities, look at his average - against good teams in the last 3 years. Go to cricinfo records and search. Not only has he consistently maintained his average but has proved his critics wrong - by playing MATCH WINNNING innings - against Australia - supposedly the best team last year - infact tournament winning innings- and other teams. Also his runs dont come in splurts. he consistently scores. And till now he can build on his innings - no arguements there. The issue is that he is always judged by his own standards, but even if you go and research the stats, you will realize that he has still upheld his own stds.
