Congress spokesman Abhsishek Singvi said Advani should not have made such generalisation while CPI leader D Raja felt Advani should introspect before judging politicians.
Voicing his views on how politicians are perceived in the country, Advani said many of them are ‘arrogant’ and that this attitude is not seen in other democratic countries.
Advani's assessment was based on what he said that Indian politicians enjoyed much greater power and influence than those compared to their foreign counterparts.
"We have come to occupy a place, enjoy a clout far in excess of our inherent merit," he said.
Singvi said, "what Mr Advani has said as a generalization is bound to be untrue."
"There are individuals (politicians) who are pompous but there are also equal number of people who are extremely humble," Singvi said as he urged Advani to refrain from making a generalisation.
Raja said he did not agree with Advani's statement and sarcastically asked the BJP stalwart whether he meant all politicians including himself were arrogant.
"There can be some politicians who are arrogant. May be they are in BJP also," Raja said.
Coming to the defence of Indian politicians, Raja said they are also known for their humbleness, simplicity and more closeness to the people.

Politicians tend to be assertive but situation and circumstances often tend to be against them.
Politicians and Humility are contradictory virtues. When a general statement is made, it applies to most of the breed, barring a few exceptions. Advani is an exception, simply because he realises it. But Congress and CPM leaders are a bunch of arrogant and untrustworthy politicians in general, barring a few exceptions. Whether a politician is arrogant or not , can be easily judged by the very fact that a politician almost never accepts his or her errors, limitations or failures. Advani has often accepted his failures and so is able to overcome them. But congress and CPM leaders never accept that they failed miserably over the last 3 years of their misrule, and it shows in the bragging of their spokesmen all the time when they are criticized, including the current statements of their spokesmen. Mr Singvi has some lessons to learn himself before talking back to advani, who is heads and shoulders above any Congressi or CPM politician either in his personal character and clean image or his political performance. He brought the BJP from 2 seats in parliament 25 years ago to over 180 seats in 1998. You can still see humility in him. Can you point out one Congress or CPM candidate who can match either his upright character or political performance?
Well , I name some politicians at the central level who are definitely arrogant : Sonia Gandhi, Kapil Sibal, Arjun Singh, Kamal Nath and Abhsishek Singhvi from Congress, Jyoti Basu and Brinda Karat from CPM.Will they learn to be humble ?
May be a small percentage of politicians are really humble.A large majority of them are arrogant but they are seemingly humble keeping in view of their next elections.
When a senior leader like Advani mentions a change in stance of society then other politicans and parties must look into it as a problem and figure out solutions if any.Denying the issue is not a solution but the problem itself. How many times did congressmen said they would win gujarat but they fell flat on ground. How many times did CPM say that god does not exist in people's mind but fell falt on their face on that.Advani most of times was right rather than wrong.Debate rather than deny must be carried, this is how politicians get vote.No wonder CPM and congress are loosing vote by huge margin in every elections. The problem for both parties is that they dont debate and discuss they think we all should believe them true regardless of how much bull shit they talk.Did they ever try to talk with common people and listen through them how easy or hard it is to get leaders to solve their problem. If they did then they will understand what Advani has said. Its no point in trying to educate them we must just eradicate them.New people are like new ideas and new waters. There is lot of stagnation of ideas in congress and left.Hopefully BJP will ramp up their leadership ideas and bring in new paradigm in thinking.
I hope raja does not believe in his own publicized statement(s). Every one knows that politicians to a large extent are hypocrites. No one is that stupid/naive to believe in 'Humble Politicians'. There are a few exceptions to this rule; which makes it worthwhile to garnish hope in our political system.
Today I felt proud about LK Advani once more. I see hope for Indian among such people and politicians.
I agree with Shri Advaniji. The root cause of most problems in India is the arrogant politicians and their chelas. They think they can achieve anything from cheating in an exam to corruption to murder in the name of being powerful - as they are politicians or connected closely to them. And it is evident to any sane person that the Congress party is the one which is largely responsible for this. Of course at this point in time no political party is exempt from this accusation. So as Advaniji said, all politicians barring a very minority are extremely arrogant and are directly responsible for the poverty, backwardness and the problems plaguing the country. If it was not for the intuitutiveness of the IT industry (much before the politicians and bueracrats realised what IT and computers are all about), India would have been worse than Somalia or Zimbabwe.
The really arrogant people are in the newsmedia.
POLITICS IS NOW A DAYS A KIND OF BUSINESS.INVEST IN POLITICS TO WIN.EARN FOR GENERATIONS BY ANY CORRUPT MEANS.-MONEY BRINGS ARROGANCE-LALLU IS AN EXAMPLE.
After getting anointed as the "PM- in -waiting" Mr. Advani has become the Oracle of BJP!He has pmpously declared that all politicians are arrogant! Thus, he has icluded hinself "out" of politicians list! Now BJP must select the rightman for the PM's post.
See the drama ! One is protecting others.... Congress and CPI/CPM are brothers now...so to say BJP....please stop the hypocracy... all politicians are opportunistic and selfish... only the difference is threashold limit. It is a good profession of enjoying benefits without any accountability and responsibility.
Advani is correct. There is no doubt. May be there are a few politicians like Advani himself and a few others who are an exception - but an overwhlemingly vast majority are arogant boors. Politicans better realize what people think of them and reform their ways. It is silly that Abhishek Singhvi and D Raja have rushed to contradict Advani, but that will not serve to change the people's opinion- it will only confound peoples belief that the politicians of the country are irreformable.
Advani is of course right and to the point about Indian politicians in general. It is a rare Indian politician who is found to be upright, humble, and honest about his personal conduct as it relates to government funds or money. What Advani has omitted from also saying is that the arrogance and dishonesty of the majority of Indin politicians is also matched by that of its officials and bureaucrats. In fact, each reinforces the other because quite often they act together in tghese iniquities like thieves from the same gang.
Fully agree with Advani. Indian politicians are the most arrogant, corrupt and self in the world. Raja, the CPI leaders remark that Indian politicians are known for their humbleness, simplicity and more closeness to people is a blantant lie. If you take a survey 90% of the people will say that these politicians are the worst and a blot on the society. The days when politicians were considered to be humble and honest is gone. Now they see politics as a mean to earn money and enjoy power. Atleast Advani has the honesty to tell the truth.
