London Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan, who has made a mark with his histrionics in his recent Hollywood flick 'Slumdog Millionaire', has been honoured by the British House of Commons for his outstanding contribution to the Indian cinema.

The versatile actor received the award from Khalid Mahmood, Labour MP from Birmingham Perry Barr in the House of Commons last evening.

Jaipur-born actor Irrfan Khan, who played the role of a Police Inspector in 'Slumdog...', expresses his happiness over the film's acknowledgement at British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), where it won seven awards.

"I am happy that the feel good film has won as many as seven awards at BAFTA here, including the Best Film, Best Director prize for Danny Boyle and Best Music award for A R Rahman," he told reporters.

"I am hopeful that it will win four to five Oscars later this month where it has received ten nominations. I think it is going to win the Best Film, the Best Director and Best screenplay awards."

"I will be delighted if it wins Oscar for Music and sound," Khan said.

Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan, who started his career from TV, said the success of the Slumdog Millionaire "is very inspirational for the Indian film industry."

"It is very inspiring for Indian films. Earlier whatever films came to India - Western films - they never trusted or never incorporated the names and department for background score as they always pointed their competence."

"In this film, Danny Boyle trusted the background score guy, the sound department and co-director. I find it strange, the story of the film as manifesting itself for the film maker. The film which started from nowhere, very small film, it was difficult to get released at one point of time. But with FOX Searchlight Pictures, it became a success story," Khan said.

Irrfan Khan felt that the success of the film would inspire more joint projects between Bollywood and Hollywood.

"Joint projects between Bollywood and Hollywood would attracted global audience. I am doing a film with America's Jennifer Lynch and the film "Hisss" (Nagin: The Snake Woman) would be ready for release later this year," Khan said.

46-year-old Khan has acted in over 60 Bollywood and Hollywood films, which includes Slumdog Millionaire, Life in a Metro (2007), Maqbool (2003), The Warrior (2001) and Salaam Bombay (1998).
